En cualquiera de las perspectivas en que quiera estudiarse el español, ya sea en el eje diacrónico (a lo largo del tiempo), ya sea en el diatópico (en el espacio geográfico), ya sea en el diastrático (en las clases socioculturales), resulta ineludible el conocimiento de la realidad lingüística americana. En este libro se pretende, con ayuda de la literatura, de la historia y, sobre todo, de la lingüística, estudiar los más importantes aspectos del español americano.
