Book excerpt: Found by a young boy and placed into his pocket for safekeeping, Penny feels useless compared to the exciting Superball, the shiny Marble, the adventuresome Rock, and the colorful Bubblegum. But as she reminisces about her life and history, she realizes her worth, and it is reinforced by the young boy's need for her in an important decision. Denise Brennan-Nelson's boundless energy and enthusiasm comes from her days as a motivational speaker. Since the publication of her first book, Buzzy the Bumblebee in 1999, Denise has taken that enthusiasm into schools and inspired thousands of children to "bee-lieve" in themselves. Her second title, My Momma Likes to Say, shares her interest in and knowledge of clichés, idioms, and funny expressions used by adults and often misunderstood by the children who hear them. Award-winning wildlife artist Michael Glenn Monroe is also known for his charming character illustrations in such titles as Buzzy the Bumblebee, A Wish to be a Christmas Tree (read aloud on the Today Show in 2002 by Katie Couric), and The Christmas Humbugs. He brings this lively brand of illustration to the adventures of Penny.

Book excerpt: A Happy Pocket Full of Money, first self-published in 2001, so impressed Rhonda Byrne, that she asked David Gikandi to become a consultant on The Secret. In A Happy Pocket Full of Money, Gikandi explains that true wealth is not about having buckets of cash, but rather understanding the value within. True wealth flows out of developing "wealth consciousness," that incorporates gratitude, a belief in abundance, and an ability to experience joy in life. He explores how recent discoveries in theoretical physics are relevant for the creation of personal wealth and shows readers how to create abundance by saving, giving, offering charity, and building happy relationships. A Happy Pocket Full of Money features: --How to use an internal mantra to build wealth consciousness. --How to be conscious and deliberate about your thoughts and intentions. --How to decide, define, and set goals you can believe in. --How to act on your beliefs and overcome challenges. --How to incorporate gratitude, giving, and faith to experience abundance and joy in life. This inspirational book will change how you view and create money, wealth, and happiness in your life.

Book excerpt: I suppose I’ve been a communicator all my life. As a child I talked a lot. As an adult I put it to good use for seventeen years in sales and marketing. My friends always said I could probably sell refrigerators to Eskimos, which might explain the period of global cooling they are predicting. They also said that where I really belonged was on the radio. Now I know why. At the tender age of thirty-eight I embarked on a new career and broke into broadcasting, both because it was a long standing secret desire and because everyone encouraged me so enthusiastically. As a good friend put it after I was on the air for a few years, "All this time we've been trying to figure out how to shut you up and now, with a simple ten-cent knob -- CLICK!" Twenty more years, several radio gigs [mostly New York and Philly] and my own commercial production business have catapulted by since that observation and they've all been successful, so I guess somebody wanted to listen. Today I find myself happily living in the Southeastern U.S. with an incredible bride, a Goldendoodle who thinks he’s a kid, a small spotted mixed breed, and a chatty parrot that seems to repeat everything except what you try to teach her. Four children are a different story. A while back they joined forces to turn me into the world's youngest grandpa' and with eight grandchildren, I'm running out of knees to bounce them on. I still wonder who the heck that is looking out at me from the mirror ... and just realized I've reduced my entire life to a mere four paragraphs. The kid living within, the stranger in the looking glass, and the blur of changes that have marked the march of time tell me that you and I may be experiencing many of the same feelings. That's why I'm grateful for this opportunity to share some thoughts with you that might help us both remember, to quote Maya Angelou, “Life should not be measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.” Life is good. Looking back, I wouldn't trade any of it for the world -- of course, no one has offered it yet. FreD Masey

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “In a small patch of woodland Deep in the green trees ... Is the place Where the fairies paint the sky” With these opening lines, first-time author Darcy L. B. Harnadek paints the picture of a young girl enraptured by the story that inspired this original collection of poetry. In song, spoken word, free verse poetry and classic forms like terza rima and haiku, Where the Fairies Paint the Sky recreates images from the author’s insights and experiences: a tree strung with wind chimes, a mother from the past weaving her own poetry, a family gathered on the beach in the wind and rain to scatter a grandfather’s ashes. The reader will encounter topics ranging from wartime and broken hearts to hope and renewal, from the wonder in everyday life to worlds of angels, demons and beauty. The poems are deep and dark, lovely and gentle, thought-provoking and beautifully simple, each ready to offer a message or rekindle a memory.

Book excerpt: A girl in foster care tries to find her birth mother before she loses her forever in this “tender tale” (School Library Journal, starred review) about last chances and new opportunities. For a kid bouncing from foster home to foster home, The Book of Changes is the perfect companion. That’s why Marin carries three pennies and a pocket-sized I Ching with her everywhere she goes. Yet when everything in her life suddenly starts changing—like landing in a foster home that feels like somewhere she could stay, maybe forever—the pennies don’t have any answers for her. Marin is positive that all the wrongs in her life will be made right if only she can find her birth mother and convince her that they belong together. Marin is close, oh so close—until she gets some unwelcome news and her resolve, like the uneasy earth far beneath the city of San Francisco, is shaken.
