It is not easy to do the healing ministry in the Korean immigrant church in U.S.A. where pragmatism has developed the most. The Korean view of the church and American life are mixed in the Korean immigrant church, so there are many strengths and weaknesses. One of the weaknesses is that many Korean immigrant churches hold negative views toward divine healing. This might have come from the lack of education or training of the church members on divine healing. Therefore, the researcher assumed that if the church members were trained well on divine healing, they would understand divine healing correctly. It is not easy to carry out the healing ministry in America where many things are proved by science, and many hidden things are revealed in public. However, the Lord does His healing ministry beyond the boundaries of age, time, place, culture, and country. She hypothesized that if she trained the Korean immigrants in the church with the healing ministry based on the biblical, theological and historical knowledge, their attitude toward healing would be totally changed. It had been supported by the implementation. To know whether the hypotheses would be supported, she trained volunteers for ten weeks through lectures and activities. Twelve members participated in this training. Their attitude toward healing changed. Also, many of them actually experienced the healing of the Lord. Their faith had been grown, and they became more active in their church activities. Since their traditional view on healing had been changed, they began to show interest in the healing ministry more positively than before. After she completed the training, she concluded that the Lord would heal anybody who prays for healing by trusting the Lord"--Abstract.

Book excerpt: "This project is a survey-based research project on the relationship between satisfaction with family life and one's Christian life. The researcher's ministry setting is a church in which more than 90% of the congregation consists of families established through international marriages. During his 10 years of immigrant-focused ministry, the researcher has discovered that families established through international marriage suffer from conflicts that arise through cultural and emotional differences, language barriers, attitudes toward child education, expression of affection and so forth. Couples of international marriages experience a lack of conversation and an inability to communicate deeply, due to the language barrier. There are also misunderstandings in expressing affection, due to cultural differences. Difficulties and conflicts exist because of differing economic views, differing attitudes about child education, personal differences, and so forth. Such family problems affect the Christian life negatively. Therefore, the researcher began the research in order to study the problems in detail and learn how to most effectively address the issues. The purpose of the research is to study how the satisfaction level of family life affects Christian life and to find out how best to address the situation. The research is important in that it can help family ministries, help develop an effective marriage therapy and recovery program, provide information for those who are planning on participating in an international marriage, prevent divorce, and facilitate church growth as a result. The research examined the level of marital satisfaction and one's Christian life based on conversation, the level of marital satisfaction and one's Christian life based on ways of expressing affection, the level of marital satisfaction and one's Christian life based on differing attitudes about child education, the level of marital satisfaction and one's Christian life based on financial issue and the level of marital satisfaction and one's Christian life based on personal differences. As for research methods, surveys were conducted to determine the relationship between the satisfaction level with family life and one's Christian life. Additionally, a frequency analysis and cross analysis were conducted. The researcher conducted surveys among six churches, excluding the researcher's church. The researcher sent 200 copies of the surveys, and 113 completed copies of the survey (55.6%) were collected. Among them, six copies were discarded for being inappropriate for the research. For the analysis of the surveys, 107 copies were cross-analyzed. The results of the research revealed that the satisfaction level with family life affects one's Christian life. In other words, when the husband and wife had satisfactory conversations, their attitudes towards offering were positive. When sexual satisfaction was low, the husband and wife seemed to serve less. In addition, satisfaction with finances was related to tithing. Satisfaction in child education was related to prayer life, and satisfaction in expressing affection had positive influences on prayer, offering, witnessing, serving and so forth. The results of the research indicate that immigrant churches need to provide internationally married couples with regular family seminars and language education for cultural adaptation. In addition, the researcher realized that the education of proper biblical values in regards to marriage, regular visitations and counseling ministry are necessary"--Abstract.

Jesus regarded divine healing seriously but some churches are not concerned about whether or not the healing of Jesus is important in these days. It is for lack of the biblical and theological knowledge and understanding of divine healing. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to help believers learn correct knowledge on divine healing. Further, the goal of this project is to increase faith in divine healing and also, to change the understanding and attitude of the healing ministry. The subjects for this project are the pastor's wives who are serving Korean immigrant churches in the Southern California. The researcher taught divine healing to the treatment group for two hours weekly through seminar program and proceeded for a period of ten weeks. The researcher evaluated the results of teaching from pre-testing and post-testing. The results of the curriculum evaluation showed that their knowledge and faith in divine healing enhanced, and that their prejudices on the divine healing removed. Even though the sick were not healed, they came to understand the sovereignty of God who works for the good of believers in all things. Further, their understanding and attitude of healing ministry were changed positively. They were convinced that God granted the grace of healing to the sick through their healing ministries and began to pray for the sick boldly. Also, they have been raised towards more devoted faith and spiritual life such as serving for church, reading the Bible, and praying"--Abstract.

As ethnic tensions continue to simmer and occasionally erupt, immigration and affirmative action laws are hotly debated in every ethnic minority: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans-even Asian Americans (the so-called model minority) struggle in the racially-charged atmosphere of contemporary America. In the aftermath of the Los Angeles riots of 1992 and the ensuing violence against Korean Americans, Andrew Sung Park seeks a theological model that will help transform a society of oppression, injustice, and violence into a community of equity, fairness, and mutual consideration. Park emphasizes that such a transformation does not and cannot begin only with good intentions, but must be grounded in an understanding of all the socio-economic and cultural issues that lead to oppression and tension. Using the Korean term han to describe the deep-seated suffering of racial oppression, he then suggests resources for understanding and healing in both Christian and Asian traditions. Part I of Racial Conflict and Healing describes the status quo from a Korean American perspective, including discrimination against ethnic minorities and the discrimination they inflict on one another. In Parts II and III, Park suggests that American society as a whole needs a superordinate vision to form a unified community. Park argues that our profoundly individualistic society must learn to understand an idea of self that is formed through relationship with others. Finally, in Part IV, he presents a theological model, a theology of seeing, as a way to genuinely understand the other and to promote healing within our society.

In Korea, women suffered under prevailing religious beliefs and cultural practices. When they immigrated to North America, they remained dominated and subordinated, due to barriers such as racism, classism, and sexism. Grace Ji-Sun Kim asks, what is the "good news" for these women, and how can they come to understand God is with them? Kim's visionary work is also a pioneering effort -- Korean North American women's theology is in an early stage of development and she is one of only a few Korean North American women theologians. Kim exposes an additional layer of oppression for Korean North American women -- an accumulation of han. She characterizes han as a prevalent sense of unresolved resentment against injustice suffered and a sense of helplessness because of the overwhelming odds against them. The Grace of Sophia proposes that linking Jesus with Sophia can be a meaningful way of portraying Christ to Korean North American women.
