Book Synopsis Exploring the Strategy Space of Negotiating Agents by : Tim Baarslag
Download or read book Exploring the Strategy Space of Negotiating Agents written by Tim Baarslag and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on an outstanding thesis that has significantly advanced the state-of-the-art in the area of automated negotiation. It gives new practical and theoretical insights into the design and evaluation of automated negotiators. It describes an innovative negotiating agent framework that enables systematic exploration of the space of possible negotiation strategies by recombining different agent components. Using this framework, new and effective ways are formulated for an agent to learn, bid, and accept during a negotiation. The findings have been evaluated in four annual instantiations of the International Automated Negotiating Agents Competition (ANAC), the results of which are also outlined here. The book also describes several methodologies for evaluating and comparing negotiation strategies and components, with a special emphasis on performance and accuracy measures.

Book Synopsis Negotiations with Asymmetrical Distribution of Power by : Klaus Winkler
Download or read book Negotiations with Asymmetrical Distribution of Power written by Klaus Winkler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-10-12 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Negotiations are of increasing importance in highly regulated sectors, particularly in network industries such as telecommunications and transport. Negotiating partners in these markets are often not equal with regard to their various sources and instruments of power. This analysis shows that negotiations are possible and can be efficient for all actors, even when power is distributed asymmetrically. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms are discussed as an alternative to conventional negotiations.

Book Synopsis Negotiation Processes: Modeling Frameworks and Information Technology by : Melvin Shakun
Download or read book Negotiation Processes: Modeling Frameworks and Information Technology written by Melvin Shakun and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on negotiation processes and how negotiation modeling frameworks and information technology can support these. A modeling framework for negotiation as a purposeful complex adaptive process is presented and computer-implemented in the first three chapters. Two game-theoretic contributions use non-cooperative games in extensive form and a computer-implemented graph model for conflict resolution, respectively. Two chapters use the negotiators' joint utility distribution to provide problem structure and computer support. A chapter on cognitive support uses restructurable modeling as a framework. One chapter matches information technologies with negotiation tasks. Another develops computer support based on preference programming. Two final chapters develop a stakeholder approach to support system evaluation, and a research framework for them, respectively. Negotiation Processes: Modeling Frameworks and Information Technology will be of interest to researchers and students in the areas of negotiation, group decision/negotiation support systems and management science, as well as to practising negotiators interested in this technology.
Book Synopsis Negotiation Analysis by : Howard Raiffa
Download or read book Negotiation Analysis written by Howard Raiffa and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2007-03-31 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This masterly book substantially extends Howard Raiffa's earlier classic, The Art and Science of Negotiation. It does so by incorporating three additional supporting strands of inquiry: individual decision analysis, judgmental decision making, and game theory. Each strand is introduced and used in analyzing negotiations. The book starts by considering how analytically minded parties can generate joint gains and distribute them equitably by negotiating with full, open, truthful exchanges. The book then examines models that disengage step by step from that ideal. It also shows how a neutral outsider (intervenor) can help all negotiators by providing joint, neutral analysis of their problem. Although analytical in its approach--building from simple hypothetical examples--the book can be understood by those with only a high school background in mathematics. It therefore will have a broad relevance for both the theory and practice of negotiation analysis as it is applied to disputes that range from those between family members, business partners, and business competitors to those involving labor and management, environmentalists and developers, and nations.

Download or read book Negotiating Environmental Agreements in Europe written by Marc de Clercq and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to further advance analysis on Negotiated Environmental Agreements (NEAs) in a multi-disciplinary and co-ordinated way. The authors advocate increased use of NEAs as policy instruments to deal with environmental problems. The book analyses, both theoretically and through the example of existing European agreements, the critical factors that can influence the performance of a negotiated environmental agreement. Negotiating Environmental Agreements in Europe contains 12 case studies analysing 12 different negotiated agreements in European countries. These are analysed comparatively in order to examine to what extent the different hypotheses postulated in the book are valid.
Book Synopsis Collective Bargaining for Police and Other Essential Services by : Giuseppe Carabetta
Download or read book Collective Bargaining for Police and Other Essential Services written by Giuseppe Carabetta and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-14 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how collective bargaining disputes are resolved among police and essential service employees. In Australia, as in other common law countries, police and other highly essential employees such as fire-fighters and ambulance officers have long had access to a form of binding arbitration to settle collective bargaining disputes. The traditional arbitration-based system in Australia has, however, been replaced in recent decades with a marked-based collective bargaining system. The current (Fair Work) system restricts access to arbitration, favouring collective bargaining based on the parties’ prerogative to make their own agreements, and supported by a limited right to industrial action — including strikes — during bargaining. Yet, police officers, particularly, are subject to considerable restraints on any entitlement to participate in industrial action. The problem is that with limited access to arbitration, and an especially limited right to industrial action, intractable disputes may continue indefinitely, without any impasse-breaking process to prevent the flow-on harms of long-running police disputes. This raises the essential question underpinning this study: what form of dispute resolution system is appropriate to protect both the legitimate industrial interests of police officers, and the community’s interest in the uninterrupted provision of essential policing services? The author in his extensive field-work research and his study of international case studies has developed a useful model for mandatory interest arbitration among police and other essential services personnel. The lessons and recommendations in the book offer insights for essential services labour law in Australia and overseas.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Decision Support for Electronic Requirements Negotiations by : Annika Lenz
Download or read book Dynamic Decision Support for Electronic Requirements Negotiations written by Annika Lenz and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-16 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annika Lenz develops an interactive preference measurement method, which provides dynamic preference adjustment, to assess alternatives in terms of utility for an individual decision maker throughout the requirements negotiation process. Consequently, interactive dynamic decision support is designed, which can handle changes related to requirements dynamically. An empirical study shows that the newly developed method is both objectively and subjectively more efficient than a static alternative. Thus, it is argued that efficient preference adjustment enables decision support based on up-to-date preferences. The designed support component is compared to two state-of-the-art approaches for decision support in requirements negotiations.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Group Decision and Negotiation by : D. Marc Kilgour
Download or read book Handbook of Group Decision and Negotiation written by D. Marc Kilgour and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-02 with total page 473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Publication of the Handbook of Group Decision and Negotiation marks a milestone in the evolution of the group decision and negotiation (GDN) eld. On this occasion, editors Colin Eden and Marc Kilgour asked me to write a brief history of the eld to provide background and context for the volume. They said that I am in a good position to do so: Actively involved in creating the GDN Section and serving as its chair; founding and leading the GDN journal, Group Decision and Negotiation as editor-in-chief, and the book series, “Advances in Group Decision and Negotiation” as editor; and serving as general chair of the GDN annual meetings. I accepted their invitation to write a brief history. In 1989 what is now the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) established its Section on Group Decision and Negotiation. The journal Group Decision and Negotiation was founded in 1992, published by Springer in cooperation with INFORMS and the GDN Section. In 2003, as an ext- sion of the journal, the Springer book series, “Advances in Group Decision and Negotiation” was inaugurated.
