Book excerpt: Discover what thousands of kids already know about memorizing verbs... illustrations and funny phrases work!Maybe you use a mnemonic to remember the number of days in each month ("thirty days hath September..."), which way to set your clock at Daylight Savings Time ("spring forward, fall back"), or the order of planets in the solar system ("my very educated mother just served us new potatoes"). Regardless of the need or specific phrase, one thing is always true: mnemonics give us a fun, easy way to remember something we'd forget otherwise. Now, Comic Mnemonics brings another piece of the puzzle, combining those learning cues with lighthearted visual illustrations to jog our memories in yet another way. What happens is an entirely new learning experience. Learn the mnemonics. Laugh at the comics. Use the devices to learn a new language faster and more easily... and remember what you learned.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • For anyone who wants to learn a foreign language, this is the method that will finally make the words stick. “A brilliant and thoroughly modern guide to learning new languages.”—Gary Marcus, cognitive psychologist and author of the New York Times bestseller Guitar Zero At thirty years old, Gabriel Wyner speaks six languages fluently. He didn’t learn them in school—who does? Rather, he learned them in the past few years, working on his own and practicing on the subway, using simple techniques and free online resources—and here he wants to show others what he’s discovered. Starting with pronunciation, you’ll learn how to rewire your ears and turn foreign sounds into familiar sounds. You’ll retrain your tongue to produce those sounds accurately, using tricks from opera singers and actors. Next, you’ll begin to tackle words, and connect sounds and spellings to imagery rather than translations, which will enable you to think in a foreign language. And with the help of sophisticated spaced-repetition techniques, you’ll be able to memorize hundreds of words a month in minutes every day. This is brain hacking at its most exciting, taking what we know about neuroscience and linguistics and using it to create the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn a foreign language in the spare minutes of your day.

That's an additional 400 Spanish verbs compared to the first edition for the same price! For each Spanish verb, I give the definition in English, a mnemonic of what the word reminds me of, and then use the mnemonic in a sentence. You probably are already aware that mnemonics can cut down study time considerably and allow you to remember something for years to come even if you don't use it. But you also know that coming up with good mnemonics is time-consuming, which defeats the purpose of using them in the first place. That's where I come in. I do the tedious work for you and all you have to do is use the time-saving mnemonic.

Book excerpt: Whether you're looking at the AP Spanish test, the SAT Spanish test, or another Spanish assessment, if you are a teacher or a student, and you need flawless recall of regular Spanish verb conjugations across 18 tenses, you need this book. To the new student of Spanish, a big chart that shows you regular Spanish verb conjugations is simply too much disparate information. That's the problem, plain and simple. You're looking at a large sea of random information, with too few patterns and too little cohesion to make memorization easy. The mind needs that disparate information crafted into something memorable. We need to bring intelligent, overwhelming, skillful order to that chaos. We cannot accept "rote memorization" as the way to learn regular Spanish verb conjugations over 18 tenses. For many students, it will simply not be learned! That's not state-of-the-art. That's a poor plan. That's never going to work effectively or efficiently. You are now looking at the best memorization method ever composed for regular Spanish verb conjugations, and it will be distilled directly into your mind. Slowly but surely, you will have flawless recall of regular Spanish verb conjugations. When you follow the instructions in the book, the memorization becomes involuntary.

"This book should be the go-to reference for anyone looking to upgrade their mind's firmware!" -Benny Lewis, Language Learning Expert Learn How to Absorb and Retain Information in a Whole New Way - A Faster, Better Way The Authors' Proprietary Method for Teaching Speed Reading & Memory Improvement You may have even taken a normal speed reading course in the past, only to realize that you didn't retain anything you read. The sad irony is that in order to properly learn things like speed reading skills and memory techniques in the past, you had to read dozens of books and psychological journals to decode the science behind it. Or, you had to hire an expensive private tutor who specializes in SuperLearning. That's what I did. And it changed my life. Fortunately, my co-authors (experts and innovators in the fields of superlearning, memory improvement, and speed reading) agreed to help me transform their materials into the first ever digital course. Over 25,000 satisfied students later, we have transformed our course into a book you can enjoy anywhere. Our teaching methodology relies heavily on at-home exercises. The chapters themselves are only part of what you're buying. You will be practicing various exercises and assignments on a regular basis over the course a 7 week schedule. An awesome read that will push the limits of your brain. Levi does an incredible job of guiding you through, to bring your brain from average to UNSTOPPABLE!" -Nelson Dellis, 4-Time USA Memory Champion

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2015 version published on 12/29/14. Need a good way to remember that the word "prodigal" means "wasteful"? Just think ofprada gal - a girl who spends all of her money on designer clothes. Brian McElroy (Harvard, '02) and Vince Kotchian (Boston College, '97), two of San Diego's most sought after test-prep tutors, provide a series of clever, unconventional, and funny memory devices aimed toward helping you to improve your vocabulary and remember words long-term so that you don't ever forget their meanings. Brian and Vince, combined, have been tutoring the test for over 20 years. They have analyzed all available official GRE tests to select the words that appear in this book. The vocabulary words in this book are best suited for students at a 9th-grade level or above. The words in this edition are specifically targeted toward the GRE exam, but they are also helpful for students who are preparing for other standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, GMAT, LSAT or MCAT, or anyone at any age who simply wants to improve his/her knowledge of English vocabulary. Disclaimer: a few of our mnemonics might not be appropriate for kids – some contain adult language or situations. Over 950 of the words in this book appear in our other mnemonics book,SAT Vocab Capacity. So if you're easily offended, the SAT version might be a better choice. Why This Book Is Different If you're studying for the GRE, SAT, or for any other standardized test that measures your vocabulary, you may be feeling a little bit anxious – especially if you've taken a practice test and encountered words you didn't know (or maybe never even saw before)! Whether you have seven days or seven months to prepare for the test, you're going to want to boost your vocabulary. But it's not that simple – you've got to remember the words you learn. And on many GRE text completion and sentence equivalence questions, getting the right answer comes down to knowing the precise definition of the words. You could make vocabulary flashcards. You could look up words you don't know. You could read a book with lots of big words. But unless you give your brain a way to hold on to the words you learn, it will probably have a harder time remembering them when they appear on the test. That's the problem with most vocabulary books: the definitions and sentences in the books aren't especially memorable. That's where this book is different. We've not only clearly defined the words but we've also created sentences designed to help you remember the words through a variety of associations - using mnemonics. Mnemonic Examples A mnemonic is just a memory device. It works by creating a link in your brain to something else, so that recall of one thing helps recall of the other. This can be done in many ways – but the strongest links are through senses, emotions, rhymes, and patterns. Consider this example: Quash (verb): to completely stop from happening. Think: squash. The best way to quash an invasion of ants in your kitchen is simple: squash them. Now your brain has a link from the word quash (which it may not have known) to the word squash (which it probably knows). Both words sound and look the same, so it's easy to create a visual and aural link. If you picture someone squashing ants (and maybe get grossed out), you also have another visual link and an emotional link. Here's another example: Eschew (verb): to avoid. Think: ah-choo! Eschew people who say "ah-choo!" unless you want to catch their colds. The word eschew sounds similar to a sneeze (ah-choo!), so your brain will now link the two sounds. If you picture yourself avoiding someone who is about to sneeze in your face, even better! Again, the more connections you make in your brain to the new word, th
