Book excerpt: A largely model-independent measurement of the inclusive electron momentum spectrum and branching fraction for semileptonic decays of B mesons is presented based on data recorded at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. Backgrounds from secondary charm decays are separated from prompt B decays using charge and angular correlations between the electron from one B meson and a high momentum electron tag from the second B meson. The resulting branching fraction is[Beta](B[yields] Xe[nu])= (10.87[+-] 0.18(stat)[+-] 0.30(syst))%. Based on this measurement we determine the CKM matrix elementV[sub cb].

This decay is essentially the decay of a b quark to a c quark inside the meson with the release of a muon and neutrino, and it provides a very clean signal for measuring various B meson decay properties. the data for this measurement consist of 22.3 million B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center in 1999-2000. The branching fraction is measured to be {Beta}({bar B}{sup 0} {yields} D*{sup +}{mu}{sup -}{bar {nu}}{sub {mu}}) = [4.72 {+-} 0.10 (data stat.) {+-} 0.06 (MC stat.) {+-} 0.20 (syst.) {+-} 0.17 (other {Beta})]%.

The data sample corresponds to 218 x 10{sup 6} B{bar B} pairs produced in e{sup +}e{sup -} annihilation through the {Upsilon}(4S) resonance. We find the branching fraction (40.2 {+-} 3.9 {+-} 3.9) x 10{sup -6}, where the first error quoted is statistical and the second is systematic. The fitted values of the a{sub 1}(1260) parameters are m{sub a{sub 1}} = 1.22 {+-} 0.02 GeV/c{sup 2} and {Lambda}{sub a{sub 1}} = 0.423 {+-} 0.050 GeV/c{sup 2}.

The data sample consists of 232 x 106?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e− collider. They select events with a D or D* meson and a light lepton (l = e or?) recoiling against a fully reconstructed B meson. They perform a fit to the joint distribution of lepton momentum and missing mass squared to distinguish signal B → D{sup (*)}?− {bar {nu}}{sub?} ({tau}− → l− {bar {nu}}{sub l}{nu}{sub {tau}}) events from the backgrounds, predominantly B → D{sup (*)} l−{bar {nu}}{sub l}. They measure the branching-fraction ratios R(D) {triple_bond}?(B → D{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}})/?(B → Dl− {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}}) and R(D*) {triple_bond}?(B → D*{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}})/?(B → D* {ell}− {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}}) and, from a combined fit to B− and {bar B}° channels, obtain the results R(D) = (41.6 ± 11.7 ± 5.2)% and R(D*) = (29.7 ± 5.6 ± 1.8)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. Normalizing to measured B− → D{sup (*)0} {ell}− {bar {nu}}{sub {ell}} branching fractions, they obtain?(B → D{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}}) = (0.86 ± 0.24 ± 0.11 ± 0.06)% and?(B → D*{tau}− {bar {nu}}{sub {tau}}) = (1.62 ± 0.31 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, where the additional third uncertainty is from the normalization mode. Assuming isospin symmetry, measured pionic branching fractions are combined into [beta](B0 → [pi]-l+vl) = (1.54 ± 0.17(stat) ± 0.09(syst)) x 10-4. First evidence of the B+ → [eta]l+vl decay is seen; its branching fraction is measured to be [beta](B+ →[eta]l+vl) = (0.64 ± 0.20(stat) ± 0.03(syst)) x 10-4.
