Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Comparison of the Intelligence and Training of School Children in a Massachusetts Town In the Multiplication test (table 8) the Fourth grade in Cochituate did. Very much poorer work than it did on the previous tests, and the Wayland median is higher in this grade. In all the other grades, how ever, Cochituate did considerably superior work, with medians ranging from 9 to 27 points higher than those of the Wayland classes. The test in Division (table 9) shows the Cochituate work superior except in the Fifth grade. It is also worthy of note that the Eighth grade in Cochituate does not attain a higher median than the Seventh grade. It is, however, considerably above the standard median. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Comparison of the Intelligence and Training of School Children in a Massachusetts Town, Vol. 1: Studies in Educational Psychology and Educational Measurement Just as Part I of this report was ready for the press there came an invitation to repeat the survey. Some reorganization had taken place as the result of the findings which had been reported, and the School Board was desirous of learning the result of these changes. It was considered worth while to delay this report pending the prepara tion of Part II, in order that the value of repeated measurements might be shown. The delay seems to have been justified, for Part II shows not only some changes which have come about as a result of the first survey, but also points out some new work which needs to be done in the schools. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Intelligence of School Children How Children Differ in Ability, the Use of Mental Tests in School Grading, and the Proper Education of Exceptional Children The book has been written primarily for the grade teacher, and as an introduction to the study of The Measurement of Intelligence. Its greatest usefulness probably will be as a book for Teacher Study Clubs and State Reading Circles, and as an introductory textbook for students in normal schools. A careful study'of this book by the teachers of a city or State would contribute wonderfully to the intelligent han dling, of children, and the study of it by prospective teachers would open up entirely new conceptions as to educational procedure, and would lead to a far more satisfactory direction of the exceptional children found in every school. The book will also prove of much value to parents interested in the education of their children, and especially to those whose children vary much in either direction from the normal. Although concepts from the environment were only one important cause of diversity of individuality, this cause once determined, inferences could be drawn to other causes. The answer is found in the extent to which the I. Q. Remains constant. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
