Book Synopsis 10th International Conference on Automated Deduction by : Mark E. Stickel
Download or read book 10th International Conference on Automated Deduction written by Mark E. Stickel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-07-17 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers presented at the 10th International Conference on Automated Deduction (CADE-10). CADE is the major forum at which research on all aspects of automated deduction is presented. Although automated deduction research is also presented at more general artificial intelligence conferences, the CADE conferences have no peer in the concentration and quality of their contributions to this topic. The papers included range from theory to implementation and experimentation, from propositional to higher-order calculi and nonclassical logics; they refine and use a wealth of methods including resolution, paramodulation, rewriting, completion, unification and induction; and they work with a variety of applications including program verification, logic programming, deductive databases, and theorem proving in many domains. The volume also contains abstracts of 20 implementations of automated deduction systems. The authors of about half the papers are from the United States, many are from Western Europe, and many too are from the rest of the world. The proceedings of the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th CADE conferences are published as Volumes 87, 138, 170, 230, 310 in the series Lecture Notes in Computer Science.

This book was released on 1992-04-22 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of an international workshop on parallelism in inference systems held in Germany in December 1990. The topicof the workshop is still rather young and several papers in the book are overview articles intended to provide a first orientation toward some of the more intensively investigated subtopics. The main part of the book is a compilation of research papers on parallelization in special domains ofinference such as rewriting, automatic reasoning, logic programming, andconnectionist inference. Appended to the book is a collection of short project summaries received in response to a worldwide email call. The book is intended primarily for researchers working on inference systems who are interested in parallelizing their systems.

Book Synopsis Logical and Computational Aspects of Model-Based Reasoning by : L. Magnani
Download or read book Logical and Computational Aspects of Model-Based Reasoning written by L. Magnani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information technology has been, in recent years, under increasing commercial pressure to provide devices and systems which help/ replace the human in his daily activity. This pressure requires the use of logic as the underlying foundational workhorse of the area. New logics were developed as the need arose and new foci and balance has evolved within logic itself. One aspect of these new trends in logic is the rising impor tance of model based reasoning. Logics have become more and more tailored to applications and their reasoning has become more and more application dependent. In fact, some years ago, I myself coined the phrase "direct deductive reasoning in application areas", advocating the methodology of model-based reasoning in the strongest possible terms. Certainly my discipline of Labelled Deductive Systems allows to bring "pieces" of the application areas as "labels" into the logic. I therefore heartily welcome this important book to Volume 25 of the Applied Logic Series and see it as an important contribution in our overall coverage of applied logic.
Book Synopsis Analogical and Inductive Inference by : Klaus P. Jantke
Download or read book Analogical and Inductive Inference written by Klaus P. Jantke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-09-20 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Computational Logic: Logic Programming and Beyond by : Antonis C. Kakas
Download or read book Computational Logic: Logic Programming and Beyond written by Antonis C. Kakas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alan Robinson This set of essays pays tribute to Bob Kowalski on his 60th birthday, an anniversary which gives his friends and colleagues an excuse to celebrate his career as an original thinker, a charismatic communicator, and a forceful intellectual leader. The logic programming community hereby and herein conveys its respect and thanks to him for his pivotal role in creating and fostering the conceptual paradigm which is its raison d’Œtre. The diversity of interests covered here reflects the variety of Bob’s concerns. Read on. It is an intellectual feast. Before you begin, permit me to send him a brief personal, but public, message: Bob, how right you were, and how wrong I was. I should explain. When Bob arrived in Edinburgh in 1967 resolution was as yet fairly new, having taken several years to become at all widely known. Research groups to investigate various aspects of resolution sprang up at several institutions, the one organized by Bernard Meltzer at Edinburgh University being among the first. For the half-dozen years that Bob was a leading member of Bernard’s group, I was a frequent visitor to it, and I saw a lot of him. We had many discussions about logic, computation, and language.
Book Synopsis Logic Programming '88 by : Koichi Furukawa
Download or read book Logic Programming '88 written by Koichi Furukawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989-09-06 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a selection of papers presented at the Seventh Logic Programming Conference that took place in Tokyo, April 11-14, 1988. It is the successor to the previous conference proceedings published as Lecture Notes in Computer Science Volumes 221, 264 and 315. The book covers various aspects of logic programming such as foundations, programming languages/systems, concurrent programming, knowledge bases, applications of computer-aided reasoning and natural language processing. The papers on foundations present theoretical results on "narrowing", a proof strategy for proving properties of Prolog programs based on inductionless induction and several issues in nonmonotonic reasoning. Of special interest to mathematicians is the paper on computer-aided reasoning, which describes a system for assisting human reasoning. Natural language application papers treat the lexical analysis of Japanese sentences, a system that generates a summary of a given sentence and a new knowledge representation formalism suited for representing dynamic behavior by extending the frame system.
