Book Synopsis Rethinking Post-Cold War Russian–Latin American Relations by : Vladimir Rouvinski
Download or read book Rethinking Post-Cold War Russian–Latin American Relations written by Vladimir Rouvinski and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, there is plenty of evidence that Russia has become a prominent external actor in Latin America and the Caribbean. Yet, few books have attempted to better understand the reasons behind Russia ́s return and Moscow’s continuous engagement in the region. In order to fill the gap, this volume offers the first interdisciplinary study of Russian-Latin American relations after the end of the Cold War. Across 16 chapters, leading experts from Russia, Europe, the United States, and Latin America collectively re-examine the Soviet legacy to reveal the conditions in which Russia operates today and identify the key trends of contemporary Russian relations with this part of the world. The book then moves on to provide a detailed case study analysis of Russia’s bilateral relations with Venezuela, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia, identifying the most critical dimensions of Russian engagement. Rethinking Post Cold-War Russian-Latin American Relations allows readers to identify the fundamental driving forces of Russia’s renewed commitment to the area, its strategies and experiences. The book will be of interest to readers of international relations and area studies, historians of modern Latin America, migration studies, political economy, and any political scientists interested in Russian decision-making.
Book Synopsis The Superlearner Myth by : Angelos Georgakis
Download or read book The Superlearner Myth written by Angelos Georgakis and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superlearner is the same as superforgetter. Research in cognitive psychology, which goes back more than one hundred years, has shown that effective learning is hard and requires time and effort. You can feel like a superlearner by consuming tons of information in record time, but, in that case, you compromise the long-term results of your efforts. Your memory is not a hard disk to download books in a matter of seconds. Effective learning means you spend enough time to encode and give meaning to new information. You need to interpret, associate, interrelate, and compare new information with already known information. There are no shortcuts to this process. Today everyone is talking about speed-reading. However, research has shown that testing, or the practice of retrieving information from our memory, is the most effective way to immunize new information and helps to prevent memory loss. Even more telling, the harder the retrieval, the better your memory will be. This book aims to talk you through the truth about how you can learn effectively. This truth is not the author's truth; it's the truth of the science of learning. The suggestions here may go against your intuition because effective learning, as we will see, is counterintuitive. By following these suggestions, though, you will soon become a more sophisticated learner with an increased ability to assess and improve your learning. We live in a fast-paced world where competition is high and acquisition of new skills is key to professional success. We can't afford to lose time. We want to see quick results in anything we do. However, we need to understand that we are not machines. Don't give your learning more speed. Instead, give it motivation, curiosity, and space. Only then will it produce the fruits you are looking for.

Book Synopsis Yeniseian Peoples and Languages by : Edward J. Vajda
Download or read book Yeniseian Peoples and Languages written by Edward J. Vajda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-04 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kets of Central Siberia are perhaps the most enigmatic of Siberia's aboriginal tribes. Today numbering barely 1,100 souls living in several small villages on the middle reaches of the Yenisei, the Kets have retained much of their ancient culture, as well as their unique language. Genetic studies of the Ket hint at an ancient affinity with Tibetans, Burmese, and other peoples of peoples of South East Asia not shared by any other Siberian people. The Ket language, which is unrelated to any other living Siberian tongue, also appears to be a relic of a bygone linguistic landscape of Inner Asia. Because language isolates such as Ket are of special value to scholars of the original peopling of the continents, linguists have recently attempted to link Ket with North Caucasian, Sino- Tibetan, Burushaski, Basque and Na Dene. None of these links have been proved to the satisfaction of all linguists, and the research continues both in Russia and abroad.
