Book Synopsis Cereal Production by : E. J. Gallagher
Download or read book Cereal Production written by E. J. Gallagher and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cereal Production documents the proceedings of the Second International Summer School in Agriculture held by the Royal Dublin Society in July 1982. This book relates individual disciplines to the central concept in cereal production, which is the optimization of yield and quality and maximization of net return. This compilation also emphasizes the ultimate aim of cereal enterprises—the economic production of grain of acceptable quality that can be traded internationally to the benefit of the people of all nations. The topics include the breeding approaches for increasing cereal crop yields, assessment of barley quality, and functional aspects of cereal structure. The soil categorization for cereal production and wheat production systems in arid and semi-arid regions are likewise deliberated. This publication is intended for cereal scientists and researchers aiming to acquire knowledge of cereal production.

Book Synopsis Management of Wheat and Barley Diseases by : Devendra Pal Singh
Download or read book Management of Wheat and Barley Diseases written by Devendra Pal Singh and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 593 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both wheat and barley are two of the most important food and industrial crops in the world. Wheat and barley cultivation has experienced changes in practices due to factors such as methods of conservation agriculture, cropping systems, wheat varieties, changes in weather patterns, and international trade, necessitating new and different approaches for the successful management of emerging diseases and new pathotypes of pathogens. This valuable volume explores a multitude of new approaches and techniques for the effective management of emerging wheat diseases. This new volume presents the latest literature on management technology of diseases that affect the production of wheat and are capable of reducing grain yields as well as grain quality. These diseases include rusts, smuts, other foliar diseases such as blight, spots, blotch, powdery mildew, bunts, etc., as well as diseases such as Karnal bunt of wheat, which is of importance to international trade. This book will be highly valuable to researchers, students, teachers, farmers, seed growers, traders, and other stakeholders dealing with wheat and barley. It also advances our knowledge in the field of plant pathology, plant breeding, and plant biotechnology, agronomy, and grain quality and pesticide industries. The book will serve as a reference on disease management technologies for the containment of losses in wheat and barley yields and will assist in maintaining wheat quality, reducing the cost of cultivation, increasing yield, and thus in helping to ensuring food security on a global level.

Book Synopsis Wheat Growth and Modelling by : W. Day
Download or read book Wheat Growth and Modelling written by W. Day and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of using mathematical models to investigate crop growth and productivity has attracted much attention in recent years. A major reason is that modelling can allow an expert in one area to assess the impact of his ideas in the light of other advances in our understanding of crop performance. Whether or not many of the claims made for or the demands made of models can ever be satisfied, this role as a focus for quantitative definition of crop growth is an important one. One consequence is that the development and appraisal of such models requires the efforts of scientists from a wide range of disciplines. This NATO Advanced Research workshop was designed to bring together such a range of scientists to consider the wheat crop, and assess our understanding of the crop and our ability to model its growth and yield. The ideas and organization behind the workshop involved many people. The U. K. interest in a computer model of wheat growth was instigated by Dr. Joe Landsberg (then of Long Ashton Research Station, but now Director of CSIRO Division of Forest Research), who in 1979 started a modelling exercise as part of a collaborative study of the causes of yield variation in winter wheat, involving four research institutes supported by the Agricultural and Food Research Council. Book Synopsis Plant Production and Management under Drought Conditions by : J.F. Stone
Download or read book Plant Production and Management under Drought Conditions written by J.F. Stone and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For some years, workers have been investigating the possibilities of integrating knowledge from soil and atmospheric sciences, crop physiology, and genetics in order to model crop response to water stress and breed plants for drought resistance. This book turns the theory into practice. Information, gathered from recent symposia and research journals, have been built upon by the authors. Up-to-date practices are cited, new practices devised, and approaches for scientific applications specified. The authors have devised numerous examples and applications for their approaches. Attention has been given to making these approaches credible in the light of economic and energy limitations. Because application of such practice over a wide area requires wide-areal sensing and measurement, recent advances in remote sensing for these purposes are outlined with methodology for practical application. The book will be of interest to a wide readership including crop managers and producers, soil scientists, agricultural micrometeorologists, plant breeders, water managers and stress physiologists.
