Download or read book 1984 Redux written by Andrew Curtiss and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: July, 2009; Andrew Curtiss received a Chain Mail in his E-Mail box. The Message was sent to him from a former colleague he served with in the US Army Special Forces at Fort Bragg North Carolina. The subject line of the message read "Congratulations you made the terrorist watch list!" The content suggested that the Department of Homeland Security had labled millions of Americans who are Constitutionalists, Pro Life, of Christian faith, voters for rightwing politics, are combat veterans and more; as potential domestic terrorists. After researching the matter Andrew found that the DHS did infact publish such a report that was meant to be confidential for law enforcement only. The report was published April 7, 2009. It was during Andrew's research into the matter that he realized the "Fundamental Transformation" of America as promised by Barrack Obama was indeed transforming America into something much like Oceania in George Orwell's "1984." 1984 Redux digs deep into the issues facing Americans today as America "Fundamentally Transforms." Curtiss draws the comparison of where Obama and his leftist handlers and drones want to take America as part of this transformation; to the extreme Socialist Oligarchy depicted in Orwell's "1984." Supported by scores of references and facts, one might be surprised to see how close to Orwell's nightmarish depiction America is headed. 1984 Redux is not only a wakeup call to America, but the world; as to what could be if the most influential nation in the world and "last hope for freedom" falls to the left.
Book Synopsis Civilization and Barbarism by : Graeme R. Newman
Download or read book Civilization and Barbarism written by Graeme R. Newman and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2020-03-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practice of mass incarceration has come under increasing criticism by criminologists and corrections experts who, nevertheless, find themselves at a loss when it comes to offering credible, practical, and humane alternatives. In Civilization and Barbarism, Graeme R. Newman argues this impasse has arisen from a refusal to confront the original essence of punishment, namely, that in some sense it must be painful. He begins with an exposition of the traditional philosophical justifications for punishment and then provides a history of criminal punishment. He shows how, over time, the West abandoned short-term corporal punishment in favor of longer-term incarceration, justifying a massive bureaucratic prison complex as scientific and civilized. Newman compels the reader to confront the biases embedded in this model and the impossibility of defending prisons as a civilized form of punishment. A groundbreaking work that challenges the received wisdom of "corrections," Civilization and Barbarism asks readers to reconsider moderate corporal punishment as an alternative to prison and, for the most serious offenders, forms of incapacitation without prison. The book also features two helpful appendixes: a list of debating points, with common criticisms and their rebuttals, and a chronology of civilized punishments.
Book Synopsis Around the Dinner Table Religion and Politics: The Butt Hurt Saga by : Charles A. Banks
Download or read book Around the Dinner Table Religion and Politics: The Butt Hurt Saga written by Charles A. Banks and published by Chuck Banks. This book was released on 2016-01-09 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever sat around the dinner table discussing religion and politics? If you grew up in my family you tended to just eat your food, discuss how your day went, and then be excused from the table. There was the occasional, you are going to vote for this guy or that guy is an idiot in my house, but there really were no deep descriptions of politics in general, unless my grandmother was present. I remember my father implying that I should never go to the dark side as he called them. As with any teenager, I tended to do the opposite of what their parent implied. This book will explore personal experiences and experiences from dinner tables across the country. We will also look at the years from 1962-2015, which I contemplate as the years our freedoms died. Plausible deniability from our government regarding matters of Constitutional rights, which were guaranteed from our founding fathers, will be explored. Should we as a nation, sit idly by as our government continues to garnish our freedoms? What will you do if and when the economy crashes? Is there a reason why we have internment camps set up by the government that was created to protect its citizens? These are a few of the questions that I explore throughout the pages in the book. This will be a true testament to the will of our country, which is utterly protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution. Together we will have a better understanding of where our country is headed and where we came from as a society. I question how many families do sit down and eat and congregate together each evening in their homes, the data would probably be staggering to say the very least. If you were to walk into virtually any establishment around the country, you might see several men and women drinking coffee and discussing politics. If you were to walk into a home in the evening from the time period of 6:00-7:00 p.m. would you see a similar situation?

Book excerpt: This casebook is an authoritative introduction to international finance, transactions, policy, and regulations. The continuing expansion of U.S. capital market regulation is a major topic, as is the implementation of international accounting standards. The book is divided into five parts. Part One deals with the international aspects of major domestic markets; Part Two with infrastructure for financial markets; Part Three with instruments and offshore markets; Part Four with emerging markets; and Part Five with the fighting of terrorism. While the approach of this book is rooted in government policy and regulation, the book introduces students to basic financial concepts and transactions. The conception of the field is original and complements existing texts written for finance or economics courses.

Download or read book Fallujah Redux written by Daniel R Green and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fallujah Redux is the first book about the Fallujah Awakening written by Operation Iraqi Freedom military veterans who served there, providing a comprehensive account of the turning of Fallujah away from the al-Qaeda insurgency in 2007. The city of Fallujah will long be associated with some of the worst violence and brutality of the Iraq War. Initially occupied by U.S. forces in 2003, it eventually served as the headquarters for numerous insurgent groups operating west of Baghdad, including al-Qaeda in Iraq and its leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, until forcibly retaken at the end of 2004. Once the city was finally cleared, U.S. forces settled into the routine of waging a low-intensity warfare campaign against insurgent forces and trying to set the conditions for Iraqi government control. Even though U.S. forces were winning tactically, they struggled with a population that still strongly supported the insurgency. By the middle of 2007, four years after the initial invasion of Iraq, the city of Fallujah and its surrounding countryside were still mired in a seemingly intractable insurgency. As Anbar Province’s tribes began to turn against al-Qaeda, Fallujah’s residents were waiting for the movement to push eastward to help them eliminate al-Qaeda but they needed the help of U.S. forces. A concerted pacification campaign, in coordination with tribal efforts, was implemented by U.S. and Iraqi security forces that fundamentally altered local security conditions in Fallujah. This book describes the campaign that turned Fallujah from a perennial insurgent hotspot to an example of what can be achieved by the right combination of leadership and perseverance. Many books have told of the major battles in Fallujah—this book tells the rest of the story that never made the news.

Book excerpt: Dixie Redux: Essays in Honor of Sheldon Hackney is a collection of original essays written by some of the nation’s most distinguished historians. Each of the contributors has a personal as well as a professional connection to Sheldon Hackney, a distinguished scholar in his own right who has served as Provost of Princeton University, president of Tulane University and the University of Pennsylvania, and the chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. In a variety of roles–teacher, mentor, colleague, administrator, writer, and friend–Sheldon Hackney has been a source of wisdom, empowerment, and wise counsel during more than four decades of historical and educational achievement. His life, both inside and outside the academy, has focused on issues closely related to civil rights, social justice, and the vagaries of race, class, regional culture, and national identity. Each of the essays in this volume touches upon one or more of these important issues–themes that have animated Sheldon Hackney’s scholarly and professional life.
