Book excerpt: Best-Selling and Award-Winning Author A gripping tale of terrorism, brutality, and personal conflict Donovan Nash has a secret he'll do anything to keep. But he's the prime suspect after someone steals a fifty-million-dollar executive jet, and FBI agent Veronica Montero put him squarely in the crosshairs. As she digs, she discovers Nash's secret—a revelation that, if made public, would stun the world. Operating on her own agenda, Montero blackmails Nash into helping her hunt down a man she wants dead. Powerless against the information Montero holds, Nash is forced into a situation far deadlier than either of them could ever have imagined. The man they are after isn't the criminal they expect, he's a terrorist with a plan to use the stolen jet to carry out an unthinkable and devastating act that could plunge America into the most heinous conflict since World War II. When Nash and Montero are taken prisoner aboard the stolen jet, they will have only one opportunity to execute a daring midair attempt to stop the attack. Success could cost them their own lives—failure could cost millions of innocent lives. Perfect for fans of David Baldacci and Daniel Silva While all of the novels in the Donovan Nash Series stand on their own and can be read in any order, the publication sequence is: Category Five Code Black Zero Separation Deadly Echoes Aftershock Pegasus Down Seconds to Midnight Speed the Dawn

Book excerpt: Separation caused by the pressure rise induced by flares has been experimentally investigated in the Mach number range of 1.5 to 5.0 and in the Reynolds number range (based on boundary-layer thickness) of 1.5X104 to 12X104. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the model geometry and flow conditions for which separation can be expected for a turbulent boundary layer of zero pressure gradient on the cylinder approaching the flare. Comparisons are made of the boundary-layer-separation characteristics of these three-dimensional flares with two-dimensional separation results from a previous investigation.

Book excerpt: A little squirrel announces that he was once very, very, scared and finds out that he is not alone. Lots of little animals went through scary experiences, but they react in different ways. Turtle hides and gets a tummy ache, monkey clings, dog barks, and elephant doesn't like to talk about it. They need help, and they get help from grown-ups who help them feel safe and learn ways to cope with difficult feelings. This story was written to help children and grown-ups understand how stress can affect children and ways to help them.

Book excerpt: This is the last part of a four-part series of reports describing an investigation of the inhibition of boundary-layer separation of the free-interaction type at high speeds through the use of surface cooling. The purpose of this report is to extend the other work of the authors to configurations representative of axisymmetric compression spikes. The analysis is developed and a computer program written for a spike which consists of a conical nose on which separation occurs followed by compression surface. No data were found to compare with the theory. A calculation made with the pressure gradient prescribed by the body shape rather than by free interaction is compared with experiment. The comparisons, which were made for skin friction, heat transfer, and pressure distributions, were good. The significant effect of wall cooling in delaying separation for the prescribed pressure gradient case is shown. It is also shown that a free-interaction solution can be joined to a prescribed pressure gradient solution so that the solution will go smoothly through separation to reattachment.

Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.
