Book Synopsis The Ultimate Body Rolling Workout by : Yamuna Zake
Download or read book The Ultimate Body Rolling Workout written by Yamuna Zake and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2003-12-23 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Get rolling! Your body will ask for more. Created by veteran yoga teacher Yamuna Zake, body rolling is a revolutionary fitness technique that uses six- to ten-inch inflatable balls to strengthen, tone, and realign the body, while providing sensations that can surpass the bliss of a massage. Now, in the first book devoted to body rolling, Zake shares the routines that she has imparted to thousands of clients across the country, and shows you how to get on the ball--and get the body you’ve always wanted. The next step for fans of yoga and Pilates, body rolling is the ultimate way to streamline your figure and promote physical wellbeing without the bulked-up results of conventional workout methods. Like yoga and Pilates, these easy-to-follow, fully illustrated routines will condition and lengthen your muscles, improve core strength, and enhance posture, flexibility, and balance. But unlike those practices, body rolling also realigns your spine and joints, relieving pain and muscle tension and providing a workout, a massage, and a chiropractic session all at once. The routines can be combined for a full body workout, or abbreviated for instant relief—to ease shoulder tightness after a long workday or to enhance bedtime relaxation. The result: You will be not only stronger and more fit with a long, lean shape—you’ll stand taller, you’ll move more easily, and best of all, you’ll feel terrific.

Book Synopsis How the Body Shapes the Way We Think by : Rolf Pfeifer
Download or read book How the Body Shapes the Way We Think written by Rolf Pfeifer and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2006-10-27 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of embodied intelligence and its implications points toward a theory of intelligence in general; with case studies of intelligent systems in ubiquitous computing, business and management, human memory, and robotics. How could the body influence our thinking when it seems obvious that the brain controls the body? In How the Body Shapes the Way We Think, Rolf Pfeifer and Josh Bongard demonstrate that thought is not independent of the body but is tightly constrained, and at the same time enabled, by it. They argue that the kinds of thoughts we are capable of have their foundation in our embodiment—in our morphology and the material properties of our bodies. This crucial notion of embodiment underlies fundamental changes in the field of artificial intelligence over the past two decades, and Pfeifer and Bongard use the basic methodology of artificial intelligence—"understanding by building"—to describe their insights. If we understand how to design and build intelligent systems, they reason, we will better understand intelligence in general. In accessible, nontechnical language, and using many examples, they introduce the basic concepts by building on recent developments in robotics, biology, neuroscience, and psychology to outline a possible theory of intelligence. They illustrate applications of such a theory in ubiquitous computing, business and management, and the psychology of human memory. Embodied intelligence, as described by Pfeifer and Bongard, has important implications for our understanding of both natural and artificial intelligence.

Here, in her third book on this groundbreaking theory, she provides therapists with a grab bag of polyvagal-informed exercises for their clients, to use both within and between sessions. These exercises offer readily understandable explanations of the ways the autonomic nervous system directs daily living. They use the principles of polyvagal theory to guide clients to safely connect to their autonomic responses and navigate daily experiences in new ways. The exercises are designed to be introduced over time in a variety of clinical sessions with accompanying exercises appropriate for use by clients between sessions to enhance the therapeutic change process. Essential reading for any therapist who wants to take their polyvagal knowledge to the next level and is looking for easy ways to deliver polyvagal solutions with their clients.

Book Synopsis The Wisdom of Your Body by : Hillary L. PhD McBride
Download or read book The Wisdom of Your Body written by Hillary L. PhD McBride and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many of us have a complicated relationship with our body. Maybe you've been made to feel ashamed of your body or like it isn't good enough. Maybe your body is riddled with stress, pain, or the effects of trauma. Maybe you think of your body as an accessory to what you believe you really are--your mind. Maybe your experiences with racism, sexism, ableism, heterosexism, ageism, or sizeism have made you believe your body isn't the right kind of body. Whatever the reason, many of us don't feel at home in our bodies. But being disconnected from ourselves as bodies means being disconnected from truly living and from the interconnection that weaves us all together. Psychologist and award-winning researcher Hillary McBride explores the broken and unhealthy ideas we have inherited about our body. Embodiment is the way we are in the world, and our embodiment is heavily influenced by who we have been allowed to be. McBride shows that many of us feel disembodied due to colonization, racism, sexism, and patriarchy--destructive systems that rank certain bodies as less valuable, beautiful, or human than others. Embracing our embodiment can liberate us from these systems. As we come to understand the world around us and the stories we've been told, we see that our perspective of reality often limits how we see and experience ourselves, each other, and what we believe is Sacred. Instead of the body being a problem to overcome, our bodies can be the very place where we feel most alive, the seat of our spirituality and our wisdom. The Wisdom of Your Body offers a compassionate, healthy, and holistic perspective on embodied living. Weaving together illuminating research, stories from her work as a therapist, and deeply personal narratives of healing from a life-threatening eating disorder, a near-fatal car accident, and chronic pain, McBride invites us to reclaim the wisdom of the body and to experience the wholeness that has been there all along. End-of-chapter questions and practices are included.
