Download or read book Young Architects at Play written by Ann Gadzikowski and published by Redleaf Press. This book was released on 2020-12-29 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When children build with blocks, they are both literally and figuratively constructing their knowledge of the world. When we see children's construction play through the lens of architecture, we are able to support and extend children's learning on all four STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering, and math. Young Architects at Play is a guide for both teachers and parents and includes a diverse variety of activities and resources. More than 20 projects involve both traditional classroom materials like unit blocks as well as natural materials, found objects, cardboard, and authentic woodworking materials. Throughout the book, Ann Gadzikowski makes meaningful connections between STEM learning and the power of stories, both the children's own narratives as well as the rich diversity of stories and illustrations from children's literature.

Book excerpt: Every spring for the last 18 years, the Architectural League of New York has invited young architects from around the world to submit their portfolios to be selected as the best of a new generation of talent. The Young Architects program has identified many of the best-known names in architecture today, including Steven Holl, Neil Denari, Billie Tsien, and Carlos Jimenez. This year's honorees are six young practices whose projects range in scale from an intimate theater to a floating football stadium.. The firms are: Douglas Pancoast, Vrinda Khanna and Robert Schultz, Sunil Bald and Yolande Daniels, Edward Mitchell, Omar Khan and Laura Gar falo, and Shih-Fu Peng and R is n Heneghan. This colorful title, the first to come out of the Young Architects program, includes photographs of built work, computer renderings, drawings, diagrams, and text, all in an inspiring mix of fresh ideas and creative vision. An introductory essay by Nina Rappaport provides an overview of current state of architectural practice. Future volumes of Young Architects will appear annually; these titles will serve as a guide to tomorrow's architectural luminaries.

Download or read book Show Your Work! written by Austin Kleon and published by Workman Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-03-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his New York Times bestseller Steal Like an Artist, Austin Kleon showed readers how to unlock their creativity by “stealing” from the community of other movers and shakers. Now, in an even more forward-thinking and necessary book, he shows how to take that critical next step on a creative journey—getting known. Show Your Work! is about why generosity trumps genius. It’s about getting findable, about using the network instead of wasting time “networking.” It’s not self-promotion, it’s self-discovery—let others into your process, then let them steal from you. Filled with illustrations, quotes, stories, and examples, Show Your Work! offers ten transformative rules for being open, generous, brave, productive. In chapters such as You Don’t Have to Be a Genius; Share Something Small Every Day; and Stick Around, Kleon creates a user’s manual for embracing the communal nature of creativity— what he calls the “ecology of talent.” From broader life lessons about work (you can’t find your voice if you don’t use it) to the etiquette of sharing—and the dangers of oversharing—to the practicalities of Internet life (build a good domain name; give credit when credit is due), it’s an inspiring manifesto for succeeding as any kind of artist or entrepreneur in the digital age.

Book Synopsis A. R. E. Building Systems Study Guide and Practice Exam (the Amber Book) by : Michael A. Ermann
Download or read book A. R. E. Building Systems Study Guide and Practice Exam (the Amber Book) written by Michael A. Ermann and published by . This book was released on 2011-08-24 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exam and study guide tests-and fosters-ownership of concepts in building systems, with an emphasis on the content stressed in the Architect Registration Examination (A.R.E.) Building Systems component. It is designed as a study tool, learning exercise, and confidence-builder. Questions are not reading comprehension devices that follow lessons, but rather opportunities to introduce a topic.Your time is valuable so this study guide does not treat all content that might appear on the exam equally. Rather it weights content by (1) its importance in the A.R.E. exam, and (2) its usefulness to the career of an architect. It further weights the content based on its "yield." In other words, memorizing the entire plumbing code will certainly help you on the A.R.E. exam, but it is certainly not the most efficient means of studying for it.
Book Synopsis Impact of Parametric Design on Young Architects by : Ayda Aglmand Azarian
Download or read book Impact of Parametric Design on Young Architects written by Ayda Aglmand Azarian and published by Supreme Art. This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book contains general descriptions about features of museum design as well as a summary of project design process which was selected and rewrote from M.A. thesis of the students. The book is consist of explanations about methods and design elements of spaces such as museums, cultural centers and projects with themes like digital museum, children museum and garden, art museum, music museum, theatre and structures like parasite pier and bridge. Meanwhile one of the salient features of the book is that it offers new ideas about facade design and samples based on Iranian and Islamic patterns for spaces like museums and exhibiting spaces. Taking benefit of design process and being bounded to it, similar to other books, is really important for me in this book, too. As it is seen in the projects, conceptual sketches play important role in this process. "Conceptual sketch" stage is related to embodiment of ideas and thoughts formed in architectural imaginations. However, they are not sufficiently clear and the sketches help them to express themselves better. Conceptual sketches of these projects are not merely limited to manual design; rather they are presented as 3D models in computer or volumetric works using 3D pens or prints. At this stage, there is a traverse between manual sketches and modeling. The sketches are modeled with a new perspective or designed based on 3D models to enrich their volume or space. This traverse which is regarded as a transversal movement during the design process is of special importance. I call it "interaction between design and computer." This book is a software-aided design practice trying to reach a better perception and recognition of Iranian architecture and modern achievements of western architects. In fact, the book demonstrates the process of transition from manual to digital design in a country which was far from most software and technological progresses as well as essential trainings. An endeavor to keep pace with global design pulse and its training!

Book Synopsis Reality Modeled After Images by : Michael Young
Download or read book Reality Modeled After Images written by Michael Young and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-08-30 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reality Modeled After Images: Architecture and Aesthetics after the Digital Image explores architecture’s entanglement with contemporary image culture. It looks closely at how changes produced through technologies of mediation alter disciplinary concepts and produce political effects. Through both historical and contemporary examples, it focuses on how conventions of representation are established, maintained, challenged, and transformed. Critical investigations are conjoined with inquiries into aesthetics and technology in the hope that the tensions between them can aid an exploration into how architectural images are produced, disseminated, and valued; how images alter assumptions regarding the appearances of architecture and the environment. For students and academics in architecture, design and media studies, architectural and art history, and related fields, this book shows how design is impacted and changed by shifts in image culture, representational conventions and technologies.
