Book Synopsis Media-Mediated Relationships by : Frank Hoffmann
Download or read book Media-Mediated Relationships written by Frank Hoffmann and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-28 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creating a nexus between techno-science and more fundamental disciplines, a phenomenon is emerging in our personal lives: we are beginning to preempt traditional sources for relationship formation; we are becoming more insular and more cautious in starting relationships. The media play an enormous role in our activities, encouraging us to self-advertise in newspapers and magazines, to participate vicariously through pornographic and borderline books, talk radio, and tabloid television, to use our telephones and computers for the ultimate in “safe sex,” to engage in video dating, and to explore many other aspects in the field of technoeroticism. As straight and gay people alike live in a time of reluctant commitments, a period of playtime, and the Age of AIDS, the time has come to chronicle the role of mass communication in our search for interpersonal connections. Media-Mediated Relationships investigates the historical, economic, psychological, and sociocultural ramifications of the print and broadcast media, motion pictures, music, and new communications technologies (computers, video, interactive media, virtual reality, phone sex) in terms of both our individual and societal concerns. An extension of “cultivation analysis” by means of systems theory, it reports on a baseline survey of over 200 people regarding relationship mediation--demonstrating yet one more example of the symbiosis among and between various media sources. A descriptive case study, Media-Mediated Relationships provides a barometer for better understanding the many “singles” and others searching for meaning and relationships in the sociocultural milieu of the 1990s and beyond.

Book Synopsis "Marry for Money, You'll Learn to Love Later!" by : Roger J. Geronimo
Download or read book "Marry for Money, You'll Learn to Love Later!" written by Roger J. Geronimo and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-05-25 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the incredibly interestingstory which describes the unbelievable mistakes we make in life, how we cope with them into the future, and what are the lessons learned from this thing called life! The story is mixed with a sense of sarcastic humor but always stressing the benefits of humor. It is also a story of hope and encouragement as the author fights a battle that his dad, his hero, lost - to Parkinson''s disease.Heres the Forward: What is life really all about? Why are we here? Is there any purpose to our existence? These are questions that have been asked over and over again for centuries and centuries. Well I believe I have found the answer - now that I am totally broke and deteriorating thanks to Parkinsons disease! Gee - thanks guys! The sarcastic sense of humor in me concludes the following about our existence here on planet earth - "LIFE IS A BITCH, THAN YOU MARRY ONE (TWO IN MY CASE) AND THEN YOU DIE" Guess Im just waiting for the arrival of the Grim Reaper himself!! However, the real me has slowly discovered that we are all on a journey here on earth. The journey is intended not to be an easy one. It is intended for us to learn from the decisions we make using our free will. There is much pain, suffering, disappointment, hurt, anger, and sorrow. And, hopefully, forgiveness. There is no hell I believe. You are living it everyday - the good and the bad! A lot more bad than good! What is it all for? It is for all of us to learn and to grow as human creatures and to eventually flourish in a place where we will discover peace, love, harmony - Where? In the hereafter - In that warmth of the Light we hear so much about from people returning from the dead. In my mind - that Light is better known as God! That is our eventual reward for everything that is tossed our way here on earth. If we learn our lessons well here than we shall be that much closer to the warmth of the Light in the hereafter. If we learn little and cause much pain and anguish to others than we shall be the farthest from the Light but always given opportunities to proceed forward. We do this by realizing our indiscretions and asking for forgiveness for our actions on earth when arriving in the hereafter and then performing duties and working toward the Light. Boy - do I hope I am right about this! Believe it or not, I actually look forward to being greeted someday by my loved ones and all the pets in the hereafter. (I got along better with my pets than with some of my crazy relatives and friends!) So - in the chapters that follow I will allow you to make your own judgments. As you read on and we share the good times and the pitiful times, always with a sense of humor I hope, I will honestly try to elaborate on the Lessons Learned from this journey that has been all too short. Perhaps through me you can make adjustments and, just perhaps, not do the same stupid things that I have done so many times in the last half century.

Book excerpt: From the reflections of famous people and the stories of everyday folk to classic love letters and contemporary "ten best" lists, this delightfully eclectic treasury shines a spotlight on the many joys of marriage. I Like Being Married is the ultimate celebration of the ties that keep loving couples together in good times and bad. With a guest list that includes Paul Newman and Joannne Woodward, Nancy and Ronald Reagan, Queen Victoria, George Burns, and Secretary of State Colin Powell (to name just a few); poetic tributes from Homer, Shakespeare, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning; and wedding readings from the Bible and other religious traditions, it captures the magic and deep-seated sense of commitment at the heart of married life. I Like Being Married shows that the institution of marriage is integral to our common humanity. There are heartwarming stories of courtship–including Mikhail Gorbachev’s charming "Chasing Raisa" and Rosalyn Carter’s story of meeting Jimmy for the first time. Jerry Stiller, Celine Dion, and others who have broken the "rules" describe how they overcame family expectations, age differences, and other obstacles to wed the people they love. In moving and amusing portraits, husbands and wives reveal the qualities and the quirks that make their mates endearing, and vignettes by Ruby Dee, Roy Rogers, and Walter Payton capture the special joys that children bring to a marriage. Long-married couples look back on a lifetime of love–and look forward to the future with hope. Lists of the ten best books, songs, movies, and sitcoms about marriage, along with evocative illustrations, round off this unusual, multifaceted look at marital bliss. Filled with stories, memories, and musings, I Like Being Married is not only an ideal gift for showers, weddings, and anniversaries but is the perfect way to explore the true meaning of marriage.
