Book excerpt: Excerpt from World Missions and World Peace: A Study of Christ's Conquest The author also shows that the seeds of this present conflict and of all wars between so-called Christian nations are found in the compromise of the Early Church with militarism, and summons us to a new Reformation which shall include world brotherhood. The chapter on the Conquest of Europe: West, affords an admirable historical background for study books on Latin America while the history of the Greek Church throws light on the religious life of Russia and the Balkans. This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the peace movement in the United States was one of dramatic change: in the mid-IKWs it consisted of a few provincial societies; by 1912 it had become eminently respectable and listed among its members an impressive number of the nation's leaders; by 1918 it was once again weak and remote from those who formulated national policy. Along with these fluctuations went equally substantial changes of leadership and purpose that, as C. Roland Marchand emphasizes, reflected the motives of the various reform groups that successively joined and dominated the movement. Most of those who joined were not devoted solely to the cause of world peace, but saw in the programs of the movement a chance for the fulfillment of their own mare immediately relevant goals. Consequently the story of the peace movement reflects the concerns of such groups as the international lawyers who wanted a world court of arbitration as an alternative to war, the business leaders who believed that international economic stability would be endangered by war, and the labor unions who felt that the working class suffered most in war. Book excerpt: "WORLD PEACE, THE CRY AND CRIER" is a critical examination of the factors responsible for the spoken world peace. It offers a road-map to realistic peaceful coexistence for which the United Nations was formed in 1945. The author, Nsikan Inokon, recalls the untold number of wars prior to, and after, the rise of nation-states, colonialism, and mercantilism. He asks, "How Many More Wars?" before the much-sought-for world peace is attained. He has proffered the sure road to realistic world peace. This book is a challenge to the world to embrace peace. It is a must-read by all advocates and lovers of peace, who consider world peace as a mission the world began since its creation without reaching its destination yet.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For as long as there has been war, there have been demands for its elimination. The quest for world peace has excited and eluded political leaders, philosophers, religious elders, activists, and artists for millennia. With war on the rise once again, we rarely reflect on what world peace might look like; much less on how it might be achieved. World Peace aims to change all that and show that world peace is possible. Because the motives, rationales, and impulses that give rise to war - the quest for survival, enrichment, solidarity, and glory - are now better satisfied through peaceful means, war is an increasingly anachronistic practice, more likely to impoverish and harm us humans than satisfy and protect us. This book shows that we already have many of the institutions and practices needed to make peace possible and sets out an agenda for building world peace. In the immediate term, it shows how steps to strengthen compliance with international law, improve collective action such as international peacekeeping and peacebuilding, better regulate the flow of arms, and hold individuals legally accountable for acts of aggression or atrocity crimes can make our world more peaceful. It also shows how in the long term, building strong and legitimate states that protect the rights and secure the livelihoods of their people, gender equal societies, and protecting the right of individuals to opt-out of wars has the potential to establish and sustain world peace. But it will only happen, if individuals organize to make it happen.

Book excerpt: A new kind of world is before us and cannot function effectively or safely without a collective thinking process that promotes unity, harmony, and understanding. Isolation, separation, extreme dualism are no longer valid, timely, appropriate, logical, or safe. The belief that humanistic studies and personal growth do not apply to the modern world is no longer scientific, philosophically correct, nor is it spiritually valid or humane. The old concept of divide and conquer by becoming more superior must be replaced with a new concept of unite and conquer by becoming more fully humane. Together, we become more; divided, we become less. Together, we prepare for a new humane renaissance; divided, we prepare for endless problematic conflicts of all kinds. There is no choice; we purposely move toward world peace or away from it. We are at the crossroads. It is now time to intervene with our evolutionary process and learn how to live in harmony with the full scope of our humane nature. This book describes how to become more fully humane, the world peace mission statement, the world peace flag, and the human equation.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Foreign Missions and World Peace, Vol. 3: Address at Portland, Maine, October 10, 1912 Furthermore, it must never be forgotten that it was because Dr. Sun and so many of his compatriots were trained in our missionary schools and had come under the Christian influences of the West that the success of this wonderful movement for better government was made possible. The nations are beginning to realize more and more what they owe to the missionaries. A Chinese leader was asked when the recent revolution began, and with great wisdom he replied, The day Robert Morrison landed in Canton. We must not forget the forward look in this summary. There are in the Protestant mission ary schools of the East nearly students of all grades under missionary training. In these schools are being shaped the future leaders Of every nation. The work done by our missionary teachers in training Chinese students has been one of the largest factors in helping to bind China to us. What is true in China is true else where, and is to become more and more true as the schools for Chris tian education are being rapidly increased. It is these students of to-day, the leaders of to-morrow, that are to bind this world together. There would have been no new China or Korea or India or Turkey if there had been no missionaries, and the diplomacy of the world would have been powerless without their aid. Western civilization, with. Its accompanying evils, is everywhere crowding into the East it is the Christian missionary, educator and physician, that serves as the antidote to all these evils and shows what Christianity is. It is the missionary who has been the peacemaker, and it is his influence that is making possible a closer oneness between the nations.
