Book Synopsis Wood Density of Canadian Tree Species by : J. S. Gonzalez
Download or read book Wood Density of Canadian Tree Species written by J. S. Gonzalez and published by Edmonton, Alta. : Forestry Canada, Northwest Region, Northern Forestry Centre. This book was released on 1990 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Total-stem and breast-height wood density data from published and unpublished sources are presented for Canadian tree species grown in and outside of Canada. Calculations for mean density and coefficient of variation were made when necessary. Variations, geographic sources, and characteristics of sample trees are included to assist the reader in making comparisons with the density values presented. Sampling locations, methods of sampling, and density calculations are described. To assist the reader in converting wood density values from green-volume to ovendry-volume basis, the conversion formula and a table of percent volumetric shrinkage are also presented.

Book Synopsis Influence of Thinning on Wood Density and Branch Size of Young Western Larch by : Udo H. Sauter
Download or read book Influence of Thinning on Wood Density and Branch Size of Young Western Larch written by Udo H. Sauter and published by Forintek Canada. This book was released on 1999 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reductions of stand densities by precommercial thinning has become an important management tool to establish stabilized stands of western larch and to concentrate stand growth potential on fewer trees. The intent of the study reported was to provide basic information on the relationship between tree spacing and the two major wood quality parameters, wood density and branch size, to support stand management decisions. Wood density profiles and branch measurements were obtained from sample trees chosen from four Montana sites representing different stocking levels. Results are presented and discussed with regard to such parameters as tree height, diameter, tree volume, wood density, branch size, and the use of one- and two-stage thinning.

Book Synopsis Regional Comparisons of Wood Density and Branch Size in Low Stand Density Lodgepole Pine by : G. R. Middleton
Download or read book Regional Comparisons of Wood Density and Branch Size in Low Stand Density Lodgepole Pine written by G. R. Middleton and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines relationships between tree diameter at breast height, wood density, and knot size in good-site, low stand density lodgepole pine from five different biogeoclimatic zones in British Columbia. At least 30 trees were selected from stands at each site, and average basic wood density was determined from two cores obtained from each sample tree. Lumber strength estimates using a previously developed regression equation are also made.

Completely revised and expanded, this edition of Canadian Woods is a comprehensive overview of a multi-faceted forest industry. Providing a complete review of the woods found in Canada and their commercial uses, it discusses the structure, the strength and physical properties, and the chemistry of wood, plus lumber production, wood drying, ood protection, and glues and gluing. Other chapters deal with the processing and use of woods and wood products, panel products, houses and structures, pulp and paper, and codes and standards in Canada. Lavishly illustrated with moer than 280 photographs and drawings, the newly revised Canadian Woods is an essential reference for students and practitioners in the forest professions and in primary and secondary forest industries.
