Book excerpt: Pat and Toms electrifying first encounter, falling in love. That love affair that sparked behind the scenes was relatively short lived but was a turning point from being a shy quiet girl to running a business herself. Their lives criss- crossed through to the end providing an end to a glorious living. Pat became a young farm widow who knew about farm life and experienced living a life alone and struggles to raise four children. Financial hardships with farm life were overcome so the farmland could be salvaged for her family. This is what her husband had always worried about. Success was her reward for being passionate, prepared and persistent. The farm land was taken over by her children and Pat decided to work in Medicine Hat for a living. This was very hard because she gave up the lifestyle she loved so much. Tears were shed but her heart danced for joy to see her children prosper. In this anticipated memoir, Pat paints a portrait of growing up in Saskatchewan, meeting her life long love in Alberta, her decision to be a farm widow, the importance of faith, prayer and family and the unique joys and trials of life they loved so much. Trusting God moment by moment with concerns of her heart and she discovered the awesome power that prayer released in her life. With unparallel candor and wit Pat shares never-before told stories of what it was like to raise four children alone in rural Alberta. Pat recounts with warmth and grace the surprising reliable lessons she learned in raising the children and surviving in this eye-opening memoir for single parents everywhere. Her book should inspire others to overcome struggles and have a zest for life. Women can do it. Her book explains that God smoothed her path, calmed the storms, helped her and all she cared about to be safe and even made her way simple when she asked God to carry the complexities of life for her. These things did not just happen. Not without prayer. The family that prays together, stays together. Her book may inspire others to continue with farm life if your heart desires. Anyone can do it...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Billions in the world believe that death is not an end-all, and that the deceased go to Heaven to be with God, family, and friends for eternity. But is Heaven a reasonable concept or just wishful thinking? Over one hundred billion people have already died, many before Jesus died on the cross. Is God caring for their souls, and where are these souls? James Fielding relies on his scientific background and spiritual experiences to share a unique perspective about the afterlife while attempting to answer complex questions that address who and what goes to Heaven. While utilizing scripture to support his examination of the challenges God faces while evaluating and diagnosing billions of deceased souls to maintain a healthy population in Heaven, Fielding examines diverse topics such as salvation, Jesus, the soul, causes of death, burials and cemeteries, mummies and cryonics, embryos and fetuses that miscarry, still births, the brain, disabilities, illnesses, pain, prodigies and geniuses, Heaven’s language, human evolution, the age of Heaven’s residents, and much more. Heaven: God’s Challenges intertwines scientific and biblical insight to present a fascinating examination of the Lord’s obstacles, the afterlife, and the future of Heaven’s population.

Book excerpt: This book focuses on a close analysis of selected speeches of Winston Churchill in the House of Commons and some of the responses from fellow MPs from the middle of 1940 to the death of Churchill in 1965, speeches in war and peace, and concentrates on foreign affairs. The book will appeal to those interested in Churchill, freedom, tyranny, diplomacy, war and conflict, democracy, politics, the Second World War, the Cold War, Britain, Canada, the United States, the British Empire and Commonwealth, Europe, France, Asia, Germany, Japan, totalitarianism, Parliament, legislative assemblies, rhetoric, language, style, speech-writing, oral and written communication, literature, history and other areas. The debate between autocracy (tyranny, totalitarianism) and democracy is in those times and ours, with many parallels, chilling. Churchill was key to our world history and is a key to understanding what is at stake in the world now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not only young boys that Roman Catholic priests abuse; these dysfunctional, deceitful predators, who use God as an excuse for their behavior, emotionally damage many unsuspecting adult women. Bless Me, Father, For I Have Sinned: Confessions of a Priest’s Mistress is the story of one woman’s involvement with a Roman Catholic priest and how it changed her life. Just as the male victims are coming forward to tell their stories, there can be no closure for Maggie Renaldi until this story is told. During a vulnerable period in her life, Maggie meets Father Brendan O'Reilly and embarks upon a clandestine affair. Father O'Reilly's fear of commitment and his "I love you, go away" behavior threaten to destroy their friendship and their love, until Maggie intervenes and O'Reilly seeks therapy to save himself. Unfortunately, he chooses a priest-psychotherapist who adds more guilt and shame. From seminaries that require young men to beat themselves bloody to bring the flesh into subjection to bishops who play politics, from power-hungry nuns to superiors who profess "the party line," Bless Me, Father, For I Have Sinned is also a graphic picture of church politics and hypocrisy. Maggie Renaldi is not her real name. All the names as well as the places have been changed to protect the innocent (as well as the guilty).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear Reader, Before you is a unique compilation of the poetry of my maternal grandfather, Michael Franklin Ellis – a.k.a. “Gramp.” This short manuscript highlights a selection of verses from his 13 published books of poetry annotated with parallel Torah excerpts. Do not let the brevity of this volume deceive you regarding its inherent depth! Before my mother’s passing, she assisted me in choosing various verses to include here, that were remarkably and intuitively Torah-aligned. Most of Gramp’s poems are witty and philosophical; some are outright sarcastic or sardonic. It was to the latter, more negative and ‘critical’ poems (the Torah tradition would call “Mussar-style”), that Mom gave a thumb’s down – these were rejected outright. In life, she always glossed over the negative and put a positive spin on things. Gramp had no formal Torah education, nonetheless, his poetry sounds as if it is informed by or taken straight from classic Rabbinic literature such as: the Mishnah, Talmud, Midrash, Biblical commentaries, Mussar and Chassidic Philosophy. Although brought up in a Jewishly-identified and culturally involved Jewish family, we were not Torah observant or knowledgeable of the traditions that The Torah and its commentaries provide. After close to four decades of living a Torah observant lifestyle and thirstily studying Torah whenever I can, while revisiting these poems, I am continuously amazed at Gramp’s intuitive, Torah-like, Kabbalistic and Chassidic bent. I am sure you will be in awe at the similarity too, as you read through this book and see the parallel Torah quotations we have included herein. You will see how Gramp’s humor and personality shines through with wit and wisdom in the upbeat style of the witty, Chassidic aphorism. Darcy F. Wallen (a.k.a.
