Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Wireless Telegraphy: A Complete Text Book for Students of Radio Communication In preparing this volume, the author has endeavored to give the non-technical student and the practical telegraphist an understanding of the functioning of present day commercial wireless telegraph apparatus, and he has varied the usual procedure followed in text books by covering first in a general way the fundamentals of electricity, electromagnetic induction, the dynamo, the motor, the motor generator, storage batteries, charging panels, etc, a knowledge of which is quite as essential to the practical wireless worker as the more com plicated phenomena of radio-frequency circuits. Download or read book Wireless Telegraph Construction for Amateurs written by Alfred Powell Morgan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-27 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wireless Telegraph Construction for Amateurs In this work, the author has endeavored to present a book embracing practical information for those who may wish to build for private or experimental use a set of wireless instruments which are more than toys but yet not so expensive as the commercial apparatus. Many books have been published on the subject of wireless telegraphy, but in them the interests of the novice have been rather neglected and in order to build an outfit he has been forced to rely upon a series of disconnected articles published in the amateur periodicals. It is the object of this book to show the construction of simple, efficient instruments by means of clear drawings, and to give enough elementary theory and practical hints to enable the experimenter to build a size and type in keeping with his needs and resources. The tiresome "how to make" style has been avoided as far as possible. History and all unimportant details are omitted to give in their place a concise explanation of the parts played by the different instruments and the influence of developing their various factors. A small lathe and a set of taps and dies are necessary to produce apparatus having a good appearance, but a little ingenuity displayed in adapting screws and parts of old electrical instruments oftentimes at hand will make these tools unnecessary. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wireless Telegraphy: A Handbook for the Use of Operators and Students This book is intended primarily for the use of those engaged in the practical operation of Radio-Telegraph installations and for students who already possess some knowledge of electrical science. The first portion of the book (Chapters I.-V.) deals with the production and radiation of electric oscillations and waves, followed, by a description of the various pieces of apparatus which go to make up a Radio-Telegraph installation and the principles which govern their construction and erection. Following this will be found descriptions of the principal systems. Chapter VI. is devoted to the Marconi system, which is the principal system employing the spark method of generating electrical oscillations. In this chapter will be found a full description of the Marconi I1⁄2 kw. ship set. This type of installation is in such very general use that hardly any students sitting for the P.M.G.'s certificate pass their examination on any other apparatus. For this reason considerable space has been devoted to it and the various pieces of apparatus fully illustrated. Chapter VII. deals with the Poulsen system, which Is representative of the arc method of generating electrical oscillations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elementary Principles of Wireless Telegraphy In presenting this Handbook, the author has endeavoured to explain, in the simplest possible manner, the theory and practice of Wireless Telegraphy. It has been his aim to make the subject intelligible to persons who do not possess much technical knowledge, and to be at the same time brief and accurate. The book has been so arranged as to be useful as a reference book on the subject for students and amateurs in this special branch of electrical science. Further and more complete explanations of the various phenomena described can be obtained from the standard scientific works on the subject, but it has been the object of the author to deal with the subject clearly and simply without going too deeply into the many highly technical problems involved.
