Book Synopsis Multifunctional Phase Change Materials by : Kinga Pielichowska
Download or read book Multifunctional Phase Change Materials written by Kinga Pielichowska and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2023-03-13 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multifunctional Phase Change Materials: Fundamentals, Properties and Applications updates on phase change materials (PCMs) used for the storage of thermal energy as sensible and latent heat. This class of materials is the subject of intensive research, both fundamental and applied, as they substantially contribute to the efficient use and conservation of waste heat and solar energy. Different groups of materials have been investigated as PCMs, including inorganic systems (salt and salt hydrates), organic, e.g., paraffins or fatty acids, polymers, and finally, hybrid materials. Recent developments are focused on multifunctional PCMs that provide functional features apart from energy storage, such as desired optical or antibacterial properties. This book presents various synthesis approaches for functionalized materials, as well as specific interactions and self-organization effects in polymer/functionalized (nano)particle systems. It reviews the current state-of-the-art in multifunctional phase change materials for thermal energy storage applications by describing the fundamentals of energy storage, the main classes of PCMs, functionalization protocols, encapsulation methods and shape stabilization procedures. Covers the most important developments in PCMs that have expanded rapidly over the last few years, including thermochromic and thermoelectric PCMs, as well as fluorescence-functionalized phase change materials Includes the newest solutions in PCMs related to functionalization and shape stabilization, e.g., nano-encapsulation and electrospun ultrafine phase change fibers Provides a multidisciplinary, comprehensive work that will be of interest for a wide readership active in various disciplines, from materials science to environmental engineering
Book Synopsis Thermal Energy Storage Technologies for Sustainability by : S. Kalaiselvam

Book Synopsis Solar Decathlon by : Melissa DiGennaro King
Download or read book Solar Decathlon written by Melissa DiGennaro King and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-04-22 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an inspirational story about how an idea got started, hit the ground running, and took flight. Solar Decathlon (SD) was a response to the need for innovative solutions to address a global problem—climate change. Richard King believed a collegiate competition that encouraged creative ingenuity could help transform traditional ways of designing and building houses. His idea was to motivate students to work together to craft unique sustainable, net-zero energy dwellings. Competing teams would display their prototypes in a single location as an educational showcase to the public. Following the inaugural competition and recurring events in Washington, DC, SD spread to multiple locations around the world. This historical narrative with stunning photos is a comprehensive source of information about the inception, development, and growth of Solar Decathlon.
Book Synopsis Solar Decathlon 2005 by : National Renewable Energy Laboratory
Download or read book Solar Decathlon 2005 written by National Renewable Energy Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two years before the contest, when most of the students joined their respective Solar Decathlon teams, little did they know how daunting the task would be. From the long hours designing and building a house from the ground up, to the demanding requirements necessary to build and occupy a house on the National Mall, competing in the Solar Decathlon is hard. For those with the right stuff, it built character and leadership-qualities that will change their lives for the better. That's significant. To power a house day after day on sunlight is a technological accomplishment that many find hard to believe-especially in cloudy weather. What the teams proved is that solar energy really works and energy efficiency pays off. Considering the consequences of billions of people around the world burning finite fossil fuels at an ever-increasing rate, demonstrating technologies that can make a difference is significant.
