Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 2,0, University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen, course: Transnationales Marketing, language: English, abstract: As I start off I will try to define the word “globalisation”, so I can move on with my argumentation on basis of this definition. Via internet, just like in several journals, magazines and books, one can find numerous definitions and essays about what “globalisation” is supposed to be. Just to give the reader some impression on the variety, I wrote down a few of them. On an official homepage of the Canadian government is written: “The term “globalisation” describes the increased mobility of goods, services, labour, technology and capital throughout the world. Although “globalisation” is not a new development, it’s pace has increased with the advent of new technologies especially in the area of communications.” . At http://www.globalisation101.org you will read “Globalisation is a term used to describe the acceleration and intensification of economic interaction among the people, companies, and governments of different nations.”. In the opinion of Prof. Werner Antweiler “Globalisation is the process by which nationality and geographic location become increasingly irrelevant for economic activities.” . As you recognize, “Globalisation” is a word which lacks of a definite definition. Hence I have decided to define “Globalisation” as follows. Globalisation will be seen as a strategy of; on global basis operating corporations, with the focus on the establishment of a worldwide competitive advantage, through the use of local benefits and economies of scale. This definition is build upon the convergence-theory whereafter the interests and desires of various nations draw close. The reason is the technological and economical evolution which gradually makes cultural differences obsolete.

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1,0, The FOM University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg, language: English, abstract: This seminar paper evaluates the dimensions of standardized global marketing and local marketing for global companies by starting with a short insight into globalization and global firms in general, followed by an illustration of the global-local dilemma, that forces a decision on the choice between selling the same product across all boundaries and the implementation of local marketing strategies in order to respond to regional differences. The term paper continues with an explanation of local and standardized global marketing, exemplified by the global players McDonald’s and Apple and concludes with a comparison of both approaches. The debate on standardization and adaptation in marketing has sparked a debate for decades. Dating back to Levitt, who is one of the leading advocates of the standardization approach in marketing, many other researchers followed Levitt’s argument about the homogenization of consumer markets. However, critics of this thesis argue, that just a just a few products can be easily standardized in a global manner. Kotler argues that national marketing can’t be simply extended to an international level as consumer behavior significantly varies depending on the country. Today, virtually every major company is forced to compete in the global market. And global marketers need to navigate through diverse cultures that go along with unpredicted rules and differences. Companies that are taking their business global and aim to successfully sell their products and services in foreign markets face many challenges. The most challenging decision in this progress is the degree of standardization or adaptation in the firm’s operations. Many companies have understood the importance of global activities.

Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 80, Queen Mary University of London (Business School), course: International Marketing, language: English, abstract: The debate around standardization versus adaptation in international marketing consists since nearly half a decade now. The first articles regarding the question whether firms should adapt their strategy and marketing program to the local costumers needs or if they rather should focus on global standardization were published in the 1960's (e.g. Bartels, 1968; Buzell, 1968; Elinder, 1961/1965; Keegan, 1969). Since then over 300 articles address this research question and it is a never- ending debate with inconsistent findings. A recent detailed meta-study over relevant articles of the last 50 years leads to contradictory findings: Out of 274 articles published in Marketing and Management Journals, 8% recommended global standardization, 14 % favored adaption, 10 % could not give a recommendation and the majority (68%) stated that companies have to make their decision grounded on the specific situation they are in (Schmid & Kotulla, 2010). These contradictory findings in the literature alone show, that the statement "Standardization in International Marketing strategy is doomed to failure" cannot be easily agreed with. This essay has the purpose to disprove the statement and demonstrate, with the help of previous literature and practical examples, that in certain contexts and for some companies, standardization can be a successful strategy. Chapter 2 provides an overview of the debate standardization versus adaptation and the empirical results of a choice of articles. Chapter 3 explains which aspects of the marketing mix will be observed and clarifies the definition of standardization. Following in Chapter 4 two companies within the consumer goods will be presented, who clearly follow an international standardizatio

Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: The objective of this thesis comprises the analytic and strategic approach to develop new and international markets based on the specific interest for the medium-sized US software company Pixel Magic Imaging, Inc. (PMI). PMI was in its infancy in terms of going international . In other words, PMI had neither an organized and international marketing conception nor a regular business to foreign customers and markets so far. Aim and object of this project was analyzing marketing opportunities for their product portfolio within different international markets and to approach adequate marketing strategies. Therefore data of international markets must be collected, evaluated and analyzed to put these results in a strategic order. This thesis deals with the development of foreign markets and how market entry could be realized. It focuses on explaining ways how to get there. The aim of this thesis is to prove which strategies are possible and to explain them in a general approach. The market research and defining the appropriate strategies where focused on the company s product portfolio. The products are digital imaging software and equipment and are placed in the segment for professional photographers, photographic entrepreneurs and retail outlets. The scope of duties in this thesis consisted in gathering data and compiling reports for international sales opportunities in so far unknown international markets. The study combines the theoretical approach with the know-how of working expierence and expatiated the methodology of international marketing research, designing of an international marketing concept and the implementation of market strategies in describing the theoretical disciplines and to implement these results into the company s strategy focus and product portfolio. This thesis benefits from the empirical data gained and its success based on an intensive exchange of ideas from theory and practical work experience. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steenkamp introduces the global brand value chain and explains how brand equity factors into shareholder value. The book equips executives with techniques for developing strategy, organizing execution, and measuring results so that your brand will prosper globally. What sets strong global brands apart? First, they generate more than half their revenue and most of their growth outside their home market. Secondly, their brand equity is responsible for a massive percentage of their firm’s market value. Third, they operate as single brands everywhere on the planet. We find them in B2C and B2B industries, among large and small companies, and among established companies and new businesses. The stewards of these brands have a set of skills and knowledge that sets them apart from the typical corporate marketer. So what’s their secret? In a world that is globalizing, but not yet globalized, how do you build a powerful global brand that resonates universally but also accommodates local nuances? How do you ensure that it is dynamic and flexible enough to change at market speed? World-class marketing expert Jan-Benedict Steenkamp has studied global brands for over 25 years on six continents. He has distilled their practices into eight tools that you can start using today. With case studies from around the world, Steenkamp’s book is provocative and timely. Global Brand Strategy speaks to three types of B2C and B2B managers: those who want to strengthen already strong global brands, those who want to launch their brands globally and get results, and those who need to revive their global brand and stop the bleeding.

But many companies who have developed a presence in the global market now face the challenges inherent in creating a multinational presence with the demands of the "unglobal consumer" who does not have a "one size fits all" need. Here, HBS Professors John Quelch and Deshpande bring together 13 Harvard Business School professors to discuss these and other problems and benefits encountered by executives in global markets. Topics to be discussed include: operating costs of global advertising and marketing services, global product standards; managing global supply chains; global account management; global brands; global knowledge sharing and performance drivers; managing global customers; and social marketing for global economic development.
