Book Synopsis The Rain Drop and Other Shades of Prosetry by : Patrick Mandidi
Download or read book The Rain Drop and Other Shades of Prosetry written by Patrick Mandidi and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The word prosetry does not exist. But the author of this book of prosetry uses it to describe the presentation of prose in a manner that attempts to depict the aims and objectives of poetry. The Rain Drop and Other Shades of Prosetry is written in five sections. The first is The Rain Drop and tells of an author who has just achieved great success. He reflects back on an embarrassing incident that happened when he was six, and which comes to mind whenever it rains. The second story, The Priest, is about a man who became a priest by accident, but grows to love his chosen profession. Then he is presented a great temptation when he meets a woman who resembles a girl he loved as a teenager. The Cricketer shows the game through the eyes of an experienced player, one about to go through a very unusual experience during a cricket match. In The Driver, the anxieties of an aging Formula One racecar driver show what happens during what could be the last year of his racing career. In the fifth and final story, The Admirer, the anguish of a young man who has fallen madly in love with a girl he has never spoken with is told in prosetry.
Download or read book Survive. Drive. Win. written by Nick Fry and published by Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2019-10-03 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The story of Brawn GP is legendary... Exciting and magical.' Damon Hill 'Nick Fry and Ed Gorman take us behind the mysterious and tightly closed doors of F1 to tell the remarkable story of the 2009 season.' Martin Brundle Foreword by Bernie Ecclestone The full story of F1's incredible 2009 championship battle has never been told. Until now. In this gripping memoir, Nick Fry, the former CEO of Brawn GP, reveals how he found himself in the driving seat for one of the most incredible journeys in the history of motor sport. At the end of 2008, Nick, then head of Honda's F1 team, was told by his Japanese bosses that the motor company was pulling out of F1 in thirty days. This bolt from the blue was a disaster for the team's 700 staff, for Ross Brawn, who Nick had recently recruited as chief engineer, and for the drivers, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello. But in a few short weeks, Nick and Ross would persuade Honda to sell them the company for £1 (plus all the liabilities). Just thirteen weeks later, the Brawn GP team, led by Nick and Ross, would emerge from these ashes, win the first Grand Prix of the 2009 season, and go on to win the Driver's and the Constructor's Championship, with a borrowed engine, a heavily adapted chassis and, at least initially, no sponsors. In Survive. Drive. Win., Nick gives an up-close-and-personal account of how he and Ross turned disaster into championship glory and laid the foundations for what was to become the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team. Along the way he gives the inside track on the drivers, the rivalries between teams, on negotiating with Bernie Ecclestone, on hiring and working with two global superstars: Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton - and offers a unique and thrilling perspective on an elite global sport.

Book Synopsis Formula One: The Pinnacle by : Tony Dodgins
Download or read book Formula One: The Pinnacle written by Tony Dodgins and published by Ivy Press. This book was released on 2022-05-10 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc battle it out head-to-head in the most hotly contested championship in years, this in-depth book, with a foreword from Haas team principal Guenther Steiner, tells the story of how the sport evolved into the exhilarating high octane spectacle it is today. The new rules introduced in 2022 signal the greatest change to F1 in a generation, cracking the field wide open and seeing some of the most compelling and competitive races in the last 25 years. Technical changes aimed at levelling the playing field for the teams combined with the sport’s tightening budget cap have made the races closer than ever. There will be more sprint races – trialled in 2021 – and greater fan interest driven by Netflix’s hugely successful ‘Drive to Survive’ series. So, how did we get here? How did F1 become the acknowledged ‘Pinnacle of Motorsport’? Simon Arron and Tony Dodgins have identified the 100 most significant changes to the series since its inception in 1950. Formula One is unrecognizable from its debut season, where drivers raced around on old bomber training aerodrome in Northamptonshire with oil drums to mark the corners and straw bales the only concession to safety. New fans will welcome a complete and highly illustrated guide to the history of F1, while older fans will be able to compare their own views of what were the pivotal moments of change, in a book written by experienced motoring writers with two lifetimes worth of knowledge of the sport. The book will link technical progress with the personalities involved, indeed many of the swiftest changes have come about as a result of accidents or tragedies – the death of Roland Ratzenberger at Imola in 1994, the same weekend as Ayrton Senna, could have been avoided by the HANS safety device. The introduction of the halo saved Romain Grosjean’s life in Bahrain last year, but only came about because of the tragic accident that claimed Jules Bianchi in Japan. Along with changes to circuits and the technology of the cars, this book highlights the commercial changes and the controversies that threatened to split the sport apart - such as the threat of breakaway series proposed at various times by teams. A must-read for completists or for those new to the sport, F1: The Pinnacle is a fascinating insight into one of the most exciting and dangerous sports in the world.

Book Synopsis Design and Construction of Berm Breakwaters by : Jentsje van der Meer
Download or read book Design and Construction of Berm Breakwaters written by Jentsje van der Meer and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern design of berm breakwaters began about thirty years ago. However, to date, there has been a lack of a well-established, formal design methodology on berm breakwaters. The authors Dr Jentsje van der Meer and Sigurdur Sigurdarson combine over 40 years of collective experience working with breakwaters to put forward a design framework in Design and Construction of Berm Breakwaters; covering the science and design practices of berm breakwater structures. The original design consisted of mass armoured berms that reshaped into statically stable S-shaped slopes. The design was adopted in Iceland and eventually led to a development with more stable structures by using available rock sizes, large rock, and more rock gradings than just "small rock (core)" and "large rock (berm)". This more stable and only partly reshaping structure is called the Icelandic-type berm breakwater. Written for researchers and practitioners, the volume consists of chapters on geometrical designs of the berm breakwater cross-section, including berm reshaping and wave overtopping, quarry and project management, as well as blasting and sorting techniques, designs for various wave conditions and available rock classes, and case studies of already constructed berm breakwaters.
