Could it be possible that an advanced society and civilization thrived here on earth, but due to a worldwide flood, their existence was nearly wiped away from history? With melting glaciers at the end of the last ice age then combined with a comet colliding with the earth, it caused global rainstorms and increased volcanic activity resulting in the rapid melting of earths ice. It quickly flooded earths entire surface. After over a month of flooding, only a small fragment of earths inhabitants survived. Many civilizations and creatures were totally wiped away. Many great cities were buried or sent to the bottom of seas. Animals and humans had to start over with repopulating the earth. Over time, some evidence of this time has been found. Some of these items found are more advanced then we are today. Some items are even questionable if they are even from earth. Only a few left today really know the truth about our planet. An alien race came to earth to escape their dying world. They tried taking over and ruling our world and all its inhabitants. After many hundreds of years, a civil war broke out among them with the human race getting caught in the middle. After a last-attempt battle to end the war, both sides were sent into hiding and waiting. Now in todays world, the aliens are once again planning their takeover of our world with their extinction agenda. They have already started influencing our society. A small group of individuals have been tragically brought together after their ancestors were eliminated by the aliens because they were being seen as threats. Now this small group is the only one in the aliens way of global domination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The King of King's Road and a vital player in England's bid for victory at the 2010 World Cup, Frank Lampard is a footballer of genuine, dynamic majesty. The East End boy who's become a West End star, he's hailed by fans, critics, players and managers worldwide as a goal-scoring genius. His tireless achievements from West Ham, Chelsea and England have established him as a bona fide legend in the game and confirmed that 'Lamps' is the perfect, highly-tuned, magnificent midfield machine. This upbeat and authoritative book chronicles his inspiring journey from apprentice schoolboy to worldwide fame. His footballer father, the former West Ham and England player Frank Lampard Senior, believed in his son's talent from the off. He taught him the work ethic learned from Bobby Moore and other heroes of England's 1966 World Cup Squad. He was unstinting in his determination for young Frank to be a winner in the family business. In this fascinating biography, acclaimed author Douglas Thompson examines Lampard's inspiring, triumphant journey to the top, from his early days of enduring chants on the pitch at Upton Park to his current, glorious reign at Stamford Bridge. He also looks at the impact of how recent events have affected the midfielder: his joy at the birth of his second daughter, Isla; his pain at the separation from Elen Rives and his grief over the death of his beloved mum, Pat, to whom he pays tribute every time he scores one of his breathtaking goals.

Book excerpt: From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Joanna Wylde comes a new story in her Reapers MC series… Rome McGuire knew he was in trouble the first time he saw her. She was sweet and pretty and just about perfect in every way. She was also too young and innocent for the Reapers Motorcycle Club. He did the right thing, and walked away. The second time, he couldn’t resist tasting her. Gorgeous and smart, fun and full of wonder, she jumped on his bike and would’ve followed him anywhere. Still, she deserved a shot at happiness somewhere bigger and better than a town like Hallies Falls. Walking away wasn’t so easy that time, but her family needed her and he had a job to do. When she came around a third time, he’d had enough. Randi Whittaker had been given two chances to escape, and now it was time for Rome to take his. This time, the only way Randi would be leaving Hallies Falls was on the back of Rome’s bike. **Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superhero meaning making is a site of struggle. Superheroes (are thought to) trouble borders and normative ways of seeing and being in the world. Superhero narratives (are thought to) represent, and thereby inspire, alternative visions of the real world. The superhero genre is (thought to be) a repository for radical or progressive ideas. In the superhero world and beyond, much is made of the genre's utopian and dystopian landscapes, queer identity-play, and transforming bodies, but might it not be the case that the genre's overblown normative framing, or representation, serves to muzzle, rather than express, its protagonists' radical promise? Why, when set against otherwise unbounded, and often extreme, transformation-human to machine, human to animal, human to god-are certain categories seemingly untouchable? Why does this speculative genre routinely fail to fully speculate about other worlds and ways of being in those worlds? For all their nonconformity, superhero stories do not live up to the idea of a radical genre, in look, feel, or tone. The mainstream American superhero genre, and its surrounding discourses, tells and facilitates an astonishingly seamless tale of opposing ideologies. But how? Recovering the Radical Promise of Superheroes: Un/Making Worlds serves a speculative response, detailing not so much a hunt for genre meaning as a trip through a genre's meaningscape. Looking anew at superhero meaning-making practices allows a distinct way of thinking about and describing the creative, formal, and ideological conditions of the genre and its protagonists, one removed from corralling binaries, one foregrounding the idea of a synergy-often unseen, uneasy, and even hostile-between official and unofficial agents of superhero meaning and one reframing familiar questions: What kinds of meaning do superhero texts engender? How is this meaning made? By whom and under what conditions? What processes and practices inform, regulate, and extend superhero meaning? And finally, superhero narratives present a new question: How might we reimagine its agents, surfaces, and spaces? Centering the experiences and practices of excluded and marginalized superhero fans, Recovering the Radical Promise of Superheroes reveals that genre meaning is not lodged in one place or another, neither in its official creators or fans, nor in "black and white" conservatism or in a "rainbow" of progressive possibilities. Nor is it even located somewhere in the in-between; it is instead better conceived of as an antagonistic, in-process nexus of meaning undergirded by systems of power. Ellen Kirkpatrick, based in northern Ireland, is an activist-writer with a PhD in Cultural Studies. In her work, she writes about activism, pop culture, fan cultures, and the transformative power of storytelling. The giant forward's life story is as amazing as some of the goals which have turned him into a hero on two continents.Born in 1978 in Abidjan, the capital of the troubled African state of Ivory Coast, he was sent to live in France with an uncle, a professional footballer, at the tender age of five. At the age of nineteen, Drogba signed with Le Mans before moving to Guingamp and becoming an Ivory Coast international. In 2004, Chelsea splashed out GBP 24 million to bring him from Olympique Marseilles to Stamford Bridge. His goals and commitment won supporters' hearts but he has courted controversy along the way, apparently confessing to 'diving' in opposition penalty areas, and his sending off in a brutal Champions League clash with Barcelona led to one of the world's top referees quitting the game. He has even had to face competition for his place from Ukrainian goal-machine Andriy Shevchenko. Now, one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, his amazing life story reveals the struggle of his early years, his battle for acceptance on and off the football field and the truth about his rivalry with Shevchenko in a story that really is stranger than fiction.

There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. Book excerpt: New York State Police Trooper Terry Levine must put aside his personal demons when several people are abducted by a serial killer. The killer typically spaces out the abductions, keeping his victims for months before murdering them, but this time the process is moving at an alarming rate. Levine, a former investigator, is asked by his old boss to check into the previous murders, which tie directly into the recent abductions. What was supposed to be a pleasant homecoming the year prior has been nothing but disaster for the trooper and his family. Shot shortly after his return home, to the quiet Northern New York area, Levine finds himself haunted by the memories of murder victims from his old cases. Medication and visits to the psychiatrist help, but Levine realizes his salvation is ultimately in his own hands. Now his youngest brother lies in an induced coma, fighting for his life, after collapsing mysteriously. Fighting to overcome his own problems, Levine digs into the past, unraveling the killer's insane motivation. With each abduction, new clues present themselves, allowing Levine and his task force to draw closer to the killer, toward an inevitable confrontation.
