Book excerpt: where is here? Is an existential question that everyone needs to ask him- or herself in order to live a fulfilling life. The foundations of a fair and successful society should be based on a view of human nature that acknowledges the fact that people are innately social beings who become human when they are part of a positive social environment. This book wants to offer a greater insight into human nature and society. Such an insight increases people's awareness and self-confidence and reduces insecurity and fears of possible abuse. As a result people will be better able to make the right decisions that benefit their life.

Download or read book Becoming a Teacher written by Alan Newland and published by Crown House Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2021-09-10 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accessible, readable and engaging, Becoming a Teacher draws on Alan Newland's decades of professional work and academic study in education to set out the key principles for developing and understanding the professional values essential to becoming a good teacher. The book features a constructive examination of the Teachers' Standards and shares a series of illustrative scenarios, exemplar strategies and practical resources that will equip trainee teachers with easy-to-understand but justifiable rationales to deal with a range of contentious and sensitive issues that they are likely to encounter during the course of their career. It also explores a series of searching questions relating to the philosophical nature of teaching, the definitions of legal, ethical and moral responsibility as a teacher, and what it means- objectively- to be professional. Becoming a Teacher therefore serves as a professional studies course reader for trainees and early career teachers, as well as a core text for tutors, lecturers, mentors and CPD leads delivering both the compulsory aspects of the ITT Core Content Framework for all qualified teacher status (QTS) courses and Early Career Framework CPD.
Book Synopsis Where's the Truth? by : Wilhelm Reich
Download or read book Where's the Truth? written by Wilhelm Reich and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2012-08-07 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where's the Truth? is the fourth and final volume of Wilhelm Reich's autobiographical writings, drawn from his diaries, letters, and laboratory notebooks. These writings reveal the details of the outrider scientist's life—his joys and sorrows, his hopes and insecurities—and chronicle his experiments with what he called "orgone energy." A student of Freud's and a prominent research physician in the early psychoanalytic movement, Reich immigrated to America in 1939 in flight from Nazism, and pursued research about orgone energy functions in the living organism and the atmosphere. Where's the Truth? begins in January 1948, shortly after Reich became a target of the Federal Food and Drug Administration. He had already faced persecution by the U.S. government, having been mistaken by the State Department and the FBI for both a Communist and a Nazi. Starting in 1947, Reich was hounded by the FDA, which, in 1954, obtained an injunction by default against him that enabled it to burn six tons of his published books and research journals, and to ban the use of one of his most important experimental research tools—the orgone energy accumulator. Challenging the right of a court to judge basic scientific research, Reich was imprisoned in March 1957 and died in the U.S. Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, eight months later. The text gathered here shows Reich's steadfast determination to protect his work. "Where's the truth?" he asked a lawyer, and that question animates this volume and rounds out our understanding of a unique, irrepressible modern figure.

Book Synopsis Shared and Institutional Agency by : Michael Bratman
Download or read book Shared and Institutional Agency written by Michael Bratman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A fundamental feature of our individual, human agency is its organization over time. Think again about growing food in a garden, or taking a trip, or writing a book. A central idea is that our capacity for planning agency is at the heart of this cross-temporal organization of our individual, human agency. Appeal to this role of our capacity for planning agency both fits our commonsense self-understanding and, I conjecture, would be a part of an empirically informed psychological theory that begins with-- but potentially adjusts--this commonsense self-understanding. The basic thought is that we are resource-limited agents who achieve cross-temporal organization in part by settling in advance on prior, partial plans. These somewhat stable partial plans help pose problems of means and preliminary steps, and in pursuit of needed coordination help filter potential options. They thereby provide a background framework for downstream thought and action"--
