Like the picture of a man with wings who would come and save her-a man who is an angel. Zoe's preternatural gifts have made her a target for those who wish to exploit her power to their own destructive ends. The search will take Remy to dark places he would rather avoid. But to save an innocent, Remy will ally himself with a variety of lesser evils-and his soul may pay the price...

Combining theoretical and historical exposition with a broad range of contemporary case studies, the book: provides a brief survey of the history of humanitarianism, beginning with the anti-slavery movement in the early nineteenth century and continuing to today’s challenge of post-conflict reconstruction and saving failed states explains the evolution of humanitarianism. Not only has it evolved over the decades, but since the end of the Cold War, humanitarianism has exploded in scope, scale, and significance presents an overview of the contemporary humanitarian sector, including briefly who the key actors are, how they are funded and what they do with their money analyses the ethical dilemmas confronted by humanitarian organization, not only in the abstract but also, and most importantly, in real situations and when lives are at stake examines how humanitarianism poses fundamental ethical questions regarding the kind of world we want to live in, what kind of world is possible, and how we might get there. An accessible and engaging work by two of the leading scholars in the field, Humanitarianism Contested is essential reading for all those concerned with the future of human rights and international relations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Room with a View – When Lucy Honeychurch embarks on a journey of a lifetime to Italy, little does she know that she would fall for the reckless man George, with whom she and co-traveller had exchanged the room with in Florence. In spite of her self-denial about her growing attraction to George Lucy knows in her heart that she cannot marry another man, let alone Cecil Vyse, who is not only downright obnoxious but also overbearing. This book is a classic romance which has also been adapted into a highly successful movie featuring Helena Bonham Carter, Julian Sands, Maggie Smith and Daniel Day-Lewis. Howards End - The story revolves around three families in England at the beginning of the 20th century: the Wilcoxes, rich capitalists with a fortune made in the colonies; the half-German Schlegel siblings (Margaret, Helen, and Tibby), whose cultural pursuits have much in common with the Bloomsbury Group; and the Basts, an impoverished young couple from a lower-class background. As fate would have it, their lives are going to be intertwined in such a manner that the secret passions and flying tempers would bring each of the family to the verge of ruin. Can they survive this vortex or will they be ruined forever?

Book excerpt: Most of us, at Cross Loman, have begun to forget about Mrs. Harter and Captain Patch, and those of us who still remember—and after all, it was only last summer—hardly ever speak their names. I know that Mary Ambrey remembers, just as I do. Sometimes we talk about it to each other, and exchange impressions and conjectures. Conjectures more than anything, because neither of us has the inside knowledge that alone could help one to a real understanding of what happened. Mary goes by intuition a good deal, and after all she did see something of Mrs. Harter. Personally, I know less than anybody. Bill Patch was my junior by many years and, though I saw him very often, we were never anything more than acquaintances. And Diamond Harter, oddly enough, I scarcely spoke to at all. And yet I have so vivid an impression of her strange personality that I feel as though I understood her better than anyone now living can ever do. It is partly to rid myself of the obsession that she is to me that I have set myself to reconstruct the affair of last summer. It is said that antiquarians can reconstruct an entire monster from a single bone. Perhaps, as an amateur psychologist, I can reconstruct a singularly enigmatic personality from—well, more than a single fact, perhaps, but not much more. Impressions, especially other people’s impressions, are not facts. Besides, the most curious thing of all, to my mind, is that they all saw her quite differently. The aspect that she wore to Mary Ambrey, for instance, was not that in which Claire, my wife, saw her. And yet Claire—about whom I intend to write with perfect frankness—is not devoid of insight, although she exaggerates everything. Claire lives upon the edge of a volcano. This is her own metaphor, and certainly represents quite accurately the state of emotional jeopardy in which her days are passed—indeed, it would be truer still to say that she lives upon the edge of a hundred volcanoes, so that there can never be a complete absence of eruptions.

Book excerpt: Bridget Juwah is currently a doctoral degree student, with two Master of Science degrees in Sociology and Political Science from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Ife, Nigeria. A graduate of Life Theological Seminary, Lagos, Nigeria, Bridget invaded three notorious drug ghettoes of Kalakuta Republic Lagos Nigeria, the Bar Beach drug joints Lagos Nigeria, and also the Downtown Los Angeles drug joint USA, with evangelistic messages, getting tremendous results. Bridget is also utilizing the anointing in the Gay Clubs of Hollywood USA, touching the hearts of stone. Her work is a testament that God is calling out the remnants who would defy the natural and dare the supernatural in order to confound the world with the demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit. Her book beckons on the church to arise in the might of the Holy Spirit in the amazing work of reaching out to vagrant psychotics so that the world might have peace and bequeath a healthy legacy to the upcoming generation. Her book is an expose' on identifying behavioral changes/panacea for this hydra-headed social malaise that intimidate the world. This is a clarion call to governments of nations and the society at large to give priority attention to this topic under exposition. Formerly a student union activist at the University of Ife Nigeria, Bridget is a social crusader, a scholar of distinction as well as a servant of God with atypical anointing. Bridget is the President of Health Foundation and she now lives in California, United States of America.
