Book Synopsis Weldability of High-strength Aluminum Alloys by : Robert Melvin Evans
Download or read book Weldability of High-strength Aluminum Alloys written by Robert Melvin Evans and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memorandum describes the fusion-welding characteristics, mechanical properties, and stress-corrosion behavior of high-strength, weldable aluminum alloys. These are defined as alloys in which sound welds can be produced and in which at least 50 and 70 percent of the maximum base-metal strength can be retained in the as-welded and post-weld-treated conditions, respectively. Careful selection of joining method and filler metals as well as close control of joining-process parameters is necessary to produce high-strength aluminum weldments. Highest strengths and weld-joint efficiencies in high-strength weldable alloys are achieved with the use of postweld aging and/or mechanical treatments. The best combination of highest strengths and good welding characteristics is found in the 2000 and 7000 alloy series. As compared with the 2000 and 5000 alloy series, the 7000 alloy as a class suffer three major property disadvantages: (1) their tendency to be notch sensitive, (2) their tendency to exhibit low toughness at low temperatures, and (3) their much greater susceptibility to stress-corrosion cracking. Nonetheless, several relatively new 7000 series alloys have been developed which show reasonably good notch toughness to -423 F and which are considered competitive with the 2219 and 2014 alloys for cryogenic applications. Book Synopsis Welding: Theory and Practice by : D.L. Olson
Download or read book Welding: Theory and Practice written by D.L. Olson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gives a comprehensive and thorough review on recent advances in the science of welding and provides a treatise for their application in day-to-day welding activities. The essential science of welding is presented for the first time in a style that is comprehensible to the craftsman, engineer and scientist. The application of welding technology requires familiarity with a broad spectrum of engineering and science. The practitioners of this technology need to be familiar with mathematics, physics, chemistry, metallurgy, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering to mention the basics. These practitioners may only have a scant knowledge in all areas, and this book is intended to provide those practising welding with a broad but subtly in-depth overview of the subject. To accomplish this the book is divided into: weld pool chemistry and microstructure, processes: high energy density; low energy density; and bonding, heat input and associated stress, and computer control. Each of these areas addresses the literature, the fundamental science and engineering, and where the technology stands with respect to the topic. The knowledge level anticipated is not that of a senior engineer or researcher, although they could enjoy the works as much as anyone, but is more designed for those involved in the daily practise of welding. Thus the book will be of interest to craftsmen, students, engineers, researchers, managers, and those interested in the Theory and Practice of welding.
Book Synopsis Analysis of Welded Structures by : Koichi Masubuchi
Download or read book Analysis of Welded Structures written by Koichi Masubuchi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Welded Structures: Residual Stresses, Distortion, and their Consequences encompasses several topics related to design and fabrication of welded structures, particularly residual stresses and distortion, as well as their consequences. This book first introduces the subject by presenting the advantages and disadvantages of welded structures, as well as the historical overview of the topic and predicted trends. Then, this text considers residual stresses, heat flow, distortion, fracture toughness, and brittle and fatigue fractures of weldments. This selection concludes by discussing the effects of distortion and residual stresses on buckling strength of welded structures and effects of weld defects on service behavior. This book also provides supplementary discussions on some related and selected subjects. This text will be invaluable to metallurgists, welders, and students of metallurgy and welding.
