Book Synopsis International Trade in Water Rights by : Aline Baillat
Download or read book International Trade in Water Rights written by Aline Baillat and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06-14 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Trade in Water Rights provides a new approach to the questions raised by international water transfer projects: To whom does water belong? More precisely, what rules should govern international water transfers from transboundary watercourses? These issues are usually studied through the lenses of international trade law. International Trade in Water Rights offers a new approach by highlighting the fundamental issue of domestic and international water property regime and introducing the difference between trade in water and trade in water rights. International Trade in Water Rights analyses the conditions under which market-based instruments could participate in the resolution of water disputes over international watercourses and recommendations are made based on the study of two cases of inter-state water trading in the Colorado River Basin and in the Murray Darling Basin. It is argued that the recognition of water as an economic good in domestic water reform will increasingly impact the management of international watercourses. The book is of key interest to water professionals, economists, lawyers, and political scientists dealing with transboundary disputes over water.

Book Synopsis Anthropogenic Aquifer Recharge by : Robert G. Maliva
Download or read book Anthropogenic Aquifer Recharge written by Robert G. Maliva and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-07 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an overview of the diversity of anthropogenic aquifer recharge (AAR) techniques that use aquifers to store and treat water. It focusses on the processes and the hydrogeological and geochemical factors that affect their performance. This book is written from an applied perspective with a focus of taking advantage of global historical experiences, both positive and negative, as a guide to future implementation. Most AAR techniques are now mature technologies in that they have been employed for some time, their scientific background is well understood, and their initial operational challenges and associated solutions have been identified. However, opportunities exist for improved implementation and some recently employed and potential future innovations are presented. AAR which includes managed aquifer recharge (MAR) is a very important area of water resources management and there is no recent books that specifically and comprehensively addresses the subject.

Book Synopsis Climate Change and Water Resources Planning Criteria by : Kenneth D. Frederick
Download or read book Climate Change and Water Resources Planning Criteria written by Kenneth D. Frederick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global climate change is expected to have major impacts on water resources and aquatic ecosystems. This prospect presents planners, who are already struggling to meet the demands of growing populations and economies, with new challenges. This volume examines these challenges and the resulting conceptual issues for water planning and project evaluation practices. The book is the first attempt to consider whether and how water resources, planning principles and evaluation criteria should be altered in view of the potential impacts of anthropogenically induced climate change. The principles and procedures that are in use today along with new approaches to nonstructural flood plain management, watershed management, water markets, and wetland banking will serve as the basis for the policies and strategies that deal with climate variability and anticipated change. This collection of papers reviews what water management ideas work, which ones need to be changed, and how planners and managers should begin incorporating aspects of risk and uncertainty into management decisions to deal expertly with climate change.

Book Synopsis Where the Water Goes by : David Owen
Download or read book Where the Water Goes written by David Owen and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Colorado River is a crucial resource for a surprisingly large part of the United States, and every gallon that flows down it is owned or claimed by someone. David Owen traces all that water from the Colorado's headwaters to its parched terminus, once a verdant wetland but now a million-acre desert. He takes readers on an adventure downriver, along a labyrinth of waterways, reservoirs, power plants, farms, fracking sites, ghost towns, and RV parks, to the spot near the U.S.-Mexico border where the river runs dry"--Amazon.com.
