Book excerpt: From President Bill Clinton's recommended reading list Publishers Weekly Bestseller Warnings is the story of the future of national security, threatening technologies, the U.S. economy, and possibly the fate of civilization. In Greek mythology Cassandra foresaw calamities, but was cursed by the gods to be ignored. Modern-day Cassandras clearly predicted the disasters of Katrina, Fukushima, the Great Recession, the rise of ISIS, the spread of viruses and many more. Like the mythological Cassandra, they were ignored. There are others right now warning of impending disasters—from cyber attacks to pandemics—but how do we know which warnings are likely to be right? Through riveting explorations in a variety of fields, the authors—both accomplished CEOs and White House National Security Council veterans—discover a method to separate the accurate Cassandras from the crazy doomsayers. They then investigate the experts who today are warning of future disasters: the threats from artificial intelligence, bio-hacking, malware attacks, and more, and whose calls are not being heeded. Clarke’s and Eddy’s penetrating insights are essential for any person, any business, or any government that doesn’t want to be a blind victim of tomorrow’s catastrophe.

Book excerpt: This cleverly written graphic manuscript reveals and highlights important lessons of the dos and don’ts in any relationship. However, there’s a twist in the book that you should not miss. This book begins with meaningful and scriptural issues, then you are thrown curves capable of knocking you down. If you’re looking to read something nice about this book, do not bet on it. Pick up the Holy Bible or Vanity Fair magazines for niceness. If you are looking for naughty things to read about, well, this publication fits into that category. At the book’s beginning, it discusses qualities of love and infatuation. Then it descends into darkness and debauchery. At the book’s end, it concludes with important six red flag warning signs. Yes, this includes six red flag warning signs everyone should look for to prevent any kind of unwanted complications in a relationship. “Let he who has discernment—understand!”

Book excerpt: Does God exist? Is there a purpose to my life? Is goodness a divine reality or simply a relative value that each culture defines for itself? Is there life beyond this earthly existence? Are Homo sapiens more than quarks and atoms; more than material properties? Is love a reality or a feeling? Offerings is a collection of brief but thought-provoking writings that vindicate religious faith. It will be an especially helpful resource for: Small group discussions and leaders of worship Adults not satisfied with trite devotional guides, but willing to wrestle with a faith that is rational and accepting of scientific discoveries The growing number of nones in the United States and Europe, who, while not believers, are open to be challenged by the possibility that there really is a God Offerings affirms a God whose glory is revealed in creation, whose mighty acts are made known in sacred scripture, and who demands justice, love, and faithfulness in human life. If someone asks, Would you like corn flakes or raisin bran? you can reasonably answer, I dont care. It doesnt matter. Either one is fine with me. But with the ultimate issues of life, you cannot sit on the fence. You cannot pretend that a decision is not required. You must make a decision. What are you waiting for?

This book was released on 2022-08-24 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive description and analysis of natural hazard warnings, drawing on perspectives from the social sciences, physical sciences, and interdisciplinary fields such as disaster studies to articulate a distinction between traditional warnings and what might be called interdisciplinary warnings. Traditional warnings approach warning technology, design, and application from a principally scientific and technical perspective. Human factors, while considered, often are of secondary concern. Interdisciplinary warnings, on the other hand, maintain a critical emphasis on the technical merits of warning systems, but also ask, “Will psychological and community factors such as culture and structure shape how the system is used, and, if so, can this information be incorporated into system design preemptively to make it more effective?” Given the absence of systematic work on interdisciplinary warnings, a book-length monograph discussing and synthesizing knowledge from the various fields focused on warnings and warning response is of critical importance to both academics and practitioners. Broadly conceived, the book presents readers with an in-depth overview of warnings, interdisciplinary research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The book holds appeal for a very broad audience: scholars; practitioners; and academic, vocational, and technical instructors both in University and non-University settings. It is of interest to academic scholars due to the interdisciplinary treatment of warnings as well as the general presentation of up-to-date scholarship on warning theory. Additionally, scholars interested in interdisciplinary work in general and those focusing on disaster warnings find within the volume a framework for developing collaborative research partnerships with those from other disciplines. As well, the book offers practitioners --emergency managers, mitigation specialists, planners, etc. --a more comprehensive perspective on emergency response in practice, allowing for better development and application of warning policy. Finally, the book appeals to instructors both inside and outside the academy. The authors envision the book useful to professors teaching both graduate and undergraduate-level courses in Sociology of Disaster, Emergency Management Planning, Homeland Security, Disaster Response, Disaster Mitigation, and Business Continuity and Crisis Management. A robust market also exists among professional organizations, perhaps most notably FEMA, which offers countless online and in-person training courses via the National Training Program, Emergency Management Institute (EMI), and other venues.

Book excerpt: Hard Truths and Amazing Grace Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel spoke words of warning, comfort, and punishment to the people of Israel in Judah and during the Babylonian Captivity. Though they faced incredible loss and persecution as they grieved the choices the Israelites made, these major prophets of the Old Testament fulfilled their role as God’s voice to a rebellious people. In this highly respected commentary, Dallas Theological Seminary scholars explore the historical and cultural background of the prophets, the literary devices they used, and what these books teach us about God’s call to us to follow Him today.
