Download or read book Time and Eternity written by Brian Leftow and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brian Leftow makes an important contribution to the longstanding debate among philosophers and theologians about the nature of God's eternity. The author develops a powerful and original defense of the notion that God is eternal in that he exists timelessly; that is, that though God exists, he does not exist at any time. Leftow defends the claim that a timeless God can be an object of human experience, and he attempts to delineate the extent of such a God's omniscience. Finally, the author pays special attention to the relation between the claim that God is timeless and the claim that God is metaphysically simple.

Book Synopsis I Saw Eternity the Other Night by : Timothy Day
Download or read book I Saw Eternity the Other Night written by Timothy Day and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sound of the choir of King's College, Cambridge - its voices perfectly blended, its emotions restrained, its impact sublime - has become famous all over the world, and for many, the distillation of a particular kind of Englishness. This is especially so at Christmas time, with the broadcast of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, whose centenary is celebrated this year. How did this small band of men and boys in a famous fenland town in England come to sing in the extraordinary way they did in the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries? It has been widely assumed that the King's style essentially continues an English choral tradition inherited directly from the Middle Ages. In this original and illuminating book, Timothy Day shows that this could hardly be further from the truth. Until the 1930s, the singing at King's was full of high Victorian emotionalism, like that at many other English choral foundations well into the twentieth century. The choir's modern sound was brought about by two intertwined revolutions, one social and one musical. From 1928, singing with the trebles in place of the old lay clerks, the choir was fully made up of choral scholars - college men, reading for a degree. Under two exceptional directors of music - Boris Ord from 1929 and David Willcocks from 1958 - the style was transformed and the choir broadcast and recorded until it became the epitome of English choral singing, setting the benchmark for all other choral foundations either to imitate or to react against. Its style has now been taken over and adapted by classical performers who sing both sacred and secular music in secular settings all over the world with a precision inspired by the King's tradition. I Saw Eternity the Other Night investigates the timbres of voices, the enunciation of words, the use of vibrato. But the singing of all human beings, in whatever style, always reflects in profound and subtle ways their preoccupations and attitudes to life. These are the underlying themes explored by this book.

Book Synopsis The Eternity Beyond The Triple Helix by : Victor G. Henigan
Download or read book The Eternity Beyond The Triple Helix written by Victor G. Henigan and published by PublishAmerica. This book was released on 2011-01-05 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Victor Henigan takes us on a unique journey from our world, down into the micro world of the atom, and beyond into the very realm of the architectural source of creation and on to Eternity. The Triple Helix published in the year 2000, is reviewed and visionary corrections are made based on NASA's 'WMAP' space probe. Following, he moves to define string theory at a level that is unique and quite understandable. Presenting a number of proofs for his farsighted prediction's, he follows with a sacred visionary writing that was written some fifty years ago, ending in eternity itself. Author Henigan, now in his eighties, is retired following a sixty year carrier in church music, during which he served many churches in the San Francisco bay area' sometimes as choir director, other times as organist, and many times as tenor soloist. For seven years in the sixties, as choir director at the Woodside Road United Methodist Church, he produced two beautiful recording albums of sacred music, 'Revelation' and 'Glory.' In addition to his church carrier, he was a member of the Orpheum Male Chorus, for ten years, and tenor soloist for the Sonoma County Men's Chorus, during the lifetime of the chorus under its founder. His musical studies include nine years of piano, one year of organ, and seven years of voice. In this effort we realize, as stated in 'The Witness of The Animation' that: All creation is housed within and upon a structure which in its true and pure existence is not given to structural form. The natural activity within and upon this existence is divine residence. That which exists within it in a state of natural activity is so flexible that it no longer remains in structural form. That which exists within it in a state of unnatural activity is in structural form. Man is in the image, or unnatural structural form, while God is in the natural existence.
