Book excerpt: A woman’s homecoming is met with death threats, a treacherous killer, and a legendary monster in this supernatural thriller series opener. Behind a legend lies the truth . . . As a child, Eve Parrish lost her father and her best friend, Maggie Flynn, in a tragic bridge collapse. Fifteen years later, she returns to Point Pleasant to settle her deceased aunt’s estate. Though much has changed about the once thriving river community, the ghost of tragedy still weighs heavily on the town, as do rumors and sightings of the Mothman, a local legend. When Eve uncovers startling information about her aunt’s death, that legend is in danger of becoming all too real . . . Caden Flynn is one of the few lucky survivors of the bridge collapse but blames himself for coercing his younger sister out that night. He’s carried that guilt for fifteen years, unaware of darker currents haunting the town. It isn’t long before Eve’s arrival unravels an old secret—one that places her and Caden in the crosshairs of a deadly killer . . . “Masterful, bone-chilling fiction…one intense thriller. A Thousand Yesteryears will keep you guessing, gasping and turning the pages for more.” —Kevin O’Brien,New York Times–bestselling author
Book Synopsis Voices of Zimbabwean Orphans by : Manasa Dzirikure
Download or read book Voices of Zimbabwean Orphans written by Manasa Dzirikure and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The voices of orphans and other vulnerable children and young people and of their carers and professional development workers are documented and analysed to both criticise the inadequacies of current social development work and to create a new, alternative theory and practice of project management in Zimbabwe and southern Africa. This is the first extensive and intensive empirical study of Zimbabwean orphans and other vulnerable children and young people. Chronically poor children and their carers can be corrupted or silenced by management systems which fail to recognise their basic human needs. Resilience in the face of such adversity is celebrated by the dominant project management ideology and practice but is a major barrier to achieve genuine sustainable improvements in the lives of vulnerable children. We propose a new person-centred project management approach aimed at delivering comprehensive services for orphans, which explicitly recognises the needs of orphans and other poor children to be fully socially, politically and economically included within their communities and which avoids the reinforcement of power based inequalities and their unacceptable consequences. The moral bankruptcy of much social development work in Zimbabwe and elsewhere in Southern Africa is described and we delineate an alternative project management policy and practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early morning rain had stopped and a cool mist shrouded the lonesome mountainside. The smell was fresh and invigorating to me as I stood beside the old hickory tree with its new leaves, an iridescent bright green, glowing against the dreary gray sky. I stood quietly and watched a lone eagle soar above, looking for an unsuspecting prey hidden in the overgrown weeds in the long neglected fields. I had stayed away too long, now, I wanted to return to the source of my childhood.

Book Synopsis Echoes of Yesteryears by : Ike Morah
Download or read book Echoes of Yesteryears written by Ike Morah and published by IKE MORAH. This book was released on 2008-08 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a sequel to We, Us and Others, the events in this book took place many years later. The Gods had, in a previous occasion, come down to earth and observed how human beings were misbehaving. An emissary was sent down to observe man especially with regard to how he ruled himself. This, therefore, had a lot to do with politics as seen in its rudimentary, but very effective, form in WADICO, quarrels between towns, corruption in big cities as well as philosophical arguments in the court. The truth was essentially of no consequence. He also got firsthand information about an unjust war, observed sexual promiscuity and deviance, as well as even the religious members of the society tampering with charitable donations. In all it was a narrative in the form of a story that highlights man and his inadequacies in the fields of corruption, politics and morality.
Book Synopsis An Unlikely Saint by : R. Furman Kenney
Download or read book An Unlikely Saint written by R. Furman Kenney and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-11-16 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Figuratively speaking this is a "rags to riches" story. It tells of a person who, in his youth, was a loner and an avowed atheist. He had no time for anyone but himself. He rebuffed all attempts by his neighbors to be friendly. He had a very peculiar habit later in life that was puzzling to the citizens of his town. Thrust upon him during his declining years by a "pushy" social worker was a baby whom he was expected to rear. Something happened on one occasion that changed him into another personality. From that point on not only was his personality changed but also his mode of life. Along the way many odd situations arise which captivate the attention of the reader, causing him or her to wonder what is going to happen next. The main character sees needs in his home town, needs to which no other citizen had given a thought. With the tenacity of a pit bull he tackles those needs. Figured in the plot of this book is a woman with the vocabulary of the proverbial sailor but who is a "diamond in the rough". This book is designed for enjoyable reading.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book etched in nostalgia, with poems that go back to 1964, when the decision was made to begin saving the poems in a 7’’x 9” notebook, instead of placing them in a fi le, which, at length, became diffi cult to fi nd; essentially lost Time brought forth three such notebooks, two fi lled; the third well-over half used. A book attuned, in good part, to family history; the growth and flowering of two generations; a continuing story that surpasses the bounds of poetic surveillance.
