Book excerpt: The book deals with a young Dave, growing up in Saint Lucia and its capital city Castries. His immense popularity as a teenage singing heartthrob with the Tru Tones band in the late 60s and the many challenges of an only child under the supervision of his grandmother, a seamstress, as his mother had migrated to England on the heels of his father David Z to end their sham marriage. Daves broadcast skills are undoubtedly part of his biographical make-up. His insight into the Tourism Industry where he was employed for 12 years and his personal experiences in media, especially after the establishment of DSP, his award winning PR, advertising and Video Production Company. The Chapters about confronting satanic forces and the embrace of the calypso artform by Saint Lucians are completely engrossing. My story, Your Voice includes interviews with former Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy, former Prime Ministers, Sir John Compton and Dr. Kenny D. Anthony and Prime Minister, Allen M. Chastanet. The book also features George Odlum, who is credited for the political education of thousands of Saint Lucians. Originally, the author had thought of the title My Story, My Voice, but explains, wherever I go, people always comment on my Voice and how it has impacted them over the years. So, in a sense, I always acknowledge the Voice as not really my own but a God given gift to be shared with Saint Lucia and all its people.

They are the home for a number of shrines, and have become a scene of symbolic, ideological, political and armed conflict between the Shona, Ndebele and Europeans for more than 100 years. Many questions in Matopos history are crucial to the history of Matabeleland as a whole, and some central to the history of Zimbabwe: the right relationship of men and women to the land; the nature of culture; the dynamics of ethnicity; the roots of dissidence and violence; and the historical bases of underdevelopment. Book excerpt: "Readers who love myth and magic will devour it!" —Alex Flinn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Beastly "Fantasy just the way I like it." —Cinda Williams Chima, New York Times bestselling author of The Seven Realms series Fantasy, magic, royalty and danger swirl together in Voice of Gods, the ebook prequel to Legacy of Kings by New York Times bestselling author Eleanor Herman! As the end of an age approaches, gods whisper horrors, families scheme for power and one woman may hold the secret to a lost legacy. At nineteen, Ada of Caria yearns to take the Snake Blood throne from her mad older siblings. She seeks the help of a young orphaned girl named Helen, the first True Oracle to have walked the earth in more than three hundred years. Helen may be able to channel the voice of the gods, but she hates her gift and will do anything to get rid of it—even lie to her best friend, Myrtale, the priestess-princess of Epirus who is destined to marry King Philip II of Macedon even though she loves another. And in the shadows lurks a handsome green-eyed stranger who has more at stake—and more to lose—than anyone could possibly imagine. Amid jealousy and heartbreak, torrid affairs and secret rendezvous, it is spoken by the gods that either Helen or Myrtale—newly named Olympias—will carry the destiny of the known world within her womb. The prequel to Legacy of Kings, Voice of Gods traces the intricate web of love and betrayal that led up to the birth of history's most powerful leader, Alexander the Great.

Book Synopsis A Voice for the Children in the Back Row by : Kathleen Robinson
Download or read book A Voice for the Children in the Back Row written by Kathleen Robinson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-04-19 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through these reflective episodes, the writer draws the reader into the real life of teachers who must move beyond the visible hopelessness and apathy that some students exhibit, and crack that veneer. In so doing, the teachers conjure up the potential that resides in those students. The narratives surrounding Ixora, John, Akeem and Victoria are developed against the backdrop of the evolution of the education system of the country. A Voice for the Children in the Back Row also represents the transformational process that the reflective educator undergoes. The author, Kathleen Robinson, has taken us along an episodic journey in order to arouse our consciousness and conscientiousness as educators. Our society needs texts like A Voice for the Children in the Back Row where the new teacher as well as the seasoned practitioner can identify with authentic experiences and see the hope that still exists in the midst of deep despair. Lynette T. Noel, reading instructor, University of Trinidad and Tobago Author, The Night Nopat was Left Out In an examination-oriented, mass education system, where one size seldom fits all, the ubiquitous drive obsession almost - to complete the syllabus conspires to ensure that some passengers are ultimately left sitting disconsolately in the back row. To get to their destination they must, invariably, either take another taxi or walk. Kathleen Robinsons A Voice for the Children in the Back Row mirrors, in many ways, my own experience in the classroom for more than three decades. The gifted and the disadvantaged suffer equally as the teacher struggles, virtually on his own, to fulfill mainstream societal expectations. In A Voice for the Children in the Back Row, I find solace in the fact that this issue has been so well articulated and documented but more importantly, I feel a renewed sense of hope that, with this latest insightful presentation, some authorized institutional engineers will finally assume the mantle to oversee meaningful, coherent and sustainable change at the systemic level.
