Book excerpt: The Second World War was the first truly global conflict and sixty years on its consequences continue to shape the modern world. Season by season The Voice of War charts the course of the central event of the twentieth century using the diaries, letters and memoirs of those who were there, from Russian women fighter pilots to the prisoners of the Japanese to Londoners enduring the Blitz. Their first-hand accounts place us on the ramparts of Colditz, in the hiding places of the Warsaw Ghetto, aboard a dive bomber at Pearl Harbor, with Rommel in the desert and by Churchill's side in Downing Street. Unrivalled in the immediacy, range and power of the experiences it contains, it includes writing by, among others, Joseph Goebbels, Benito Mussolini, Christabel Bielenberg, Noel Coward, Robert Capa, Airey Neave, George Patton, Hermione Ranfurly, Arthur Koestler, James Lees-Milne, Martha Gellhorn, Sophia Loren and Primo Levi. Ambitious, instructive and entertaining, this is the definitive portrait of a world at war.

Book Synopsis The Incessant Voice of War by : P. L. Nelson
Download or read book The Incessant Voice of War written by P. L. Nelson and published by Strategic Book Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 727 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Something big is going down, real hush-hush. All I've got so far is a code name...Anteater mentioned it last month in Khe Sanh-thought it had something to do with nukes in the hands of the NVA, but wasn't sure-and now he's dead...I'll keep you posted. Only seven weeks have passed since author and journalist Roger Burnett, on assignment in Vietnam, stumbled upon a backstreet rumor about a mysterious organization known as Black Rose. The trail is long and complex, but the time span is brief for Burnett and an international team of associates to expose the growing conspiracy of those whose goal is to establish a permanent wartime economy in America-via provocation, via bold aggression, via any means possible-especially if it might force a war with China. About the Author: In the mid-Sixties, P. L. Nelson worked in an industry that was financed by the U.S. government to investigate and research means and systems of delivery for various chemical warfare agents. By 1967, he had managed an accidental glimpse or two of classified Intelligence projects, which served to tweak his imagination and set him on a course of fiction writing. The Incessant Voice of War grew out of Nelson's interest in history and politics, and in examining how people respond to severe challenges that test their integrity. Nelson currently lives in Colorado City, Colorado, where he is working on a book of poetry and essays based on his explorations of the American West. Book Synopsis Voice of the Silenced Peoples in the Global Cold War by : Anna Mazurkiewicz

This book was released on 2020-12-16 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to its members, exiled political leaders from nine east European countries, the ACEN was an umbrella organization—a quasi-East European parliament in exile—composed of formerly prominent statesmen who strove to maintain the case of liberation of Eastern Europe from the Soviet yoke on the agenda of international relations. Founded by the Free Europe Committee, from 1954 to 1971 the ACEN tried to lobby for Eastern European interests on the U.S. political scene, in the United Nations and the Council of Europe. Furthermore, its activities can be traced to Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. However, since it was founded and sponsored by the Free Europe Committee (most commonly recognized as the sponsor of the Radio Free Europe), the ACEN operations were obviously influenced and monitored by the Americans (CIA, Department of State). This book argues that despite the émigré leadership's self-restraint in expressing criticism of the U.S. foreign policy, the ACEN was vulnerable to, and eventually fell victim of, the changes in the American Cold War policies. Notwithstanding the termination of Free Europe’s support, ACEN members reconstituted their operations in 1972 and continued their actions until 1989. Based on a through archival research (twenty different archives in the U.S. and Europe, interviews, published documents, memoirs, press) this book is a first complete story of an organization that is quite often mentioned in publications related to the operations of the Free Europe Committee but hardly ever thoroughly studied.

This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS BOOK IS ABOUT THE POWER OF THE PRESS TO SWAY OPINION. The voice is W.C., a hapless war correspondent, posted to Tasmania to cover the conflict between the Pakana people of Lutruwita and the British, from 1814 to 1856. In old age, comforted by malt and his scruffy dog Bent, W.C. shares his press clippings of graphic accounts of the events that unfolded in the early days of the colony. He reveals his impassioned love for Lowana, a Pakana woman who haunts his dreams forever. W.C.'s perspective on these events is not without its biases. He tries to temper his feelings as he shares with us letters, articles and opinion pieces from his collection. He includes of his own postings, The Pakana Voice, in which he encourages his readers to see what is not being reported in the press. Despite technology little has changed in two centuries of media and its influence over the minds of people, W.C.'s words still ring true: 'I fear the old adage that we learn from history is indeed a misnomer'.

Book excerpt: Your voice is the uninhibited sound of who and Whose you are. You belong to the Father. Creation is yearning on tiptoe for the sound of sons and daughters to erupt on the earth (Romans 8:19). In The War on Your Voice, Jenn Stockman addresses how shame, fear, abuse and so much more act as lids to silence your voice. *Break through every lid from a deep intimacy with the Father. *Discover the inexhaustible beauty of Jesus and all He won in the only story where your voice has the leading role, your story. "Hiding in the pages of The War On Your Voice is a personal tour guide. Be prepared to find riches and glory beyond your wildest imagination that God is so thrilled to give you as you follow the guidance of a masterful writer." Leif Hetland/ President of Global Missions Awareness Jenn Stockman lives near Atlanta, Georgia with her husband Justin and their four daughters Kylie, Ava, Arabelle and Liberty. She teaches regularly at Bethel Atlanta and is on staff as the First Year Director of Bethel Atlanta School of Supernatural Ministry. INTRODUCTION I wrote this book out on my back porch during the early summer mornings. It was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. I laughed. I cried. I shook. I felt undone and intoxicated by the nearness of Jesus as I typed and typed. I told the whole story like a drunk person who's lost every sense of self-awareness and self-restraint. I held nothing back, without a care. I read this great quote in the process, "To gain your own voice, you have to forget about having it heard." I forgot about having it heard and wrote for Him and in Him. I fell in love with the process. The writing became my most intimate worship. I wrote for Him and now I give it to you. I believe in your voice. Not just the ability to speak words from your mouth, but the sound of who and Whose you are through the whole of your story. I see an army of sons and daughters arising in their authority and bending down low enough in their humility to whisper in the ear of a hurting generation about a relentless, eternal Hope. Jesus loves to live with dirt on His knees and who can resist wanting to be with Him where He is. Humility is telling the real story - nothing more, nothing less. Shame is terrified that we would live loud the beauty of Christ within us without restraint, naked and unashamed. Every morning when you wake up, your enemy is tormented by the sound of who you are. He's in the corner holding his breath with anxiety, knowing today could be the day you live the truth of Whom you belong to. I pray your life gives him a panic attack as you open wide the door to feast with King Jesus, having nothing to hide through the whole of your story. With all my love, Jenn
