Book Synopsis Vis Vim Vi: Declinations of Force in Leibniz’s Dynamics by : Tzuchien Tho
Download or read book Vis Vim Vi: Declinations of Force in Leibniz’s Dynamics written by Tzuchien Tho and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-06-29 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic reconstruction of Leibniz’s dynamics project (c. 1676-1700) that contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the concepts of physical causality in Leibniz’s work and 17th century physics. It argues that Leibniz’s theory of forces privileges the causal relationship between structural organization and physical phenomena instead of body-to-body mechanical causation. The mature conception of Leibnizian force is not the power of one body to cause motion in another, but a kind of structural causation related to the configuration of integral systems of bodies in physical evolution. By treating the immanent philosophy of Leibniz’s dynamics, this book makes explicit the systematic aims and inherent limits of Leibniz's physical project, in addition to providing an alternative vision of the scientific understanding of the physical world in the late 17th and early 18th century.
Book Synopsis Vis and Ramin by : Fakhreddin Gorgani
Download or read book Vis and Ramin written by Fakhreddin Gorgani and published by Mage Publishers. This book was released on 2022-10-01 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vis & Ramin is one of the world’s great love stories. It was the first major Persian romance, written between 1050 and 1055 in rhyming couplets. This remarkable work has now been superbly translated into heroic couplets (the closest metrical equivalent of the Persian) by the poet and scholar Dick Davis. Vis & Ramin had immense influence on later Persian poetry and is very probably also the source for the tale of Tristan and Isolde, which first appeared in Europe about a century later. The plot, complex yet powerfully dramatic, revolves around royal marital customs unfamiliar to us today. Shahru, the married queen of Mah, refuses an offer of marriage from King Mobad of Marv but promises that if she bears a daughter she will give the child to him as a bride. She duly bears a daughter, Vis, who is brought up by a nurse in the company of Mobad’s younger brother Ramin. By the time Vis reaches the age of marriage, Shahru has forgotten her promise and instead weds her daughter to Vis’s older brother, Viru. The next day Mobads brother Zard arrives to demand the bride, and fighting breaks out, during which Vis’s father is killed. Mobad then bribes to hand Vis over to him. Mobad’s brother Ramin escorts Vis to her new husband and falls in love with her on the way. Vis has no love for and turns to her old nurse for help…. Told in language that is lush, sensual and highly inventive, Vis and Ramin is a masterpiece of psychological perceptiveness and characterization: Shahru is worldly and venal, the nurse resourceful and amoral (she will immediately remind Western readers of the nurse in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet), Vis high-spirited and determined, Ramin impetuous and volatile. And the hopeless psychological situation of Vis’s husband, Mobad, flickers wearily from patience to self-assertion to fury and back again. The origins of Vis and Ramin, are obscure. The story dates from the time of the Parthians (who ruled Persia from the third century bce to the third century ce), and certainly existed in oral and perhaps written form before the eleventh century Persian poet Fakhraddin Gorgani composed the version that has come down to us.

Book Synopsis UV-VIS Spectroscopy and Its Applications by : Heinz-Helmut Perkampus
Download or read book UV-VIS Spectroscopy and Its Applications written by Heinz-Helmut Perkampus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UV-VIS spectroscopy is one of the oldest methods in molecular spectroscopy. The definitive formulation of the Bouguer-Lambert Beer law in 1852 created the basis for the quantitative evaluation of absorption measurements at an early date. This led firstly to colorimetry, then to photometry and finally to spectrophotometry. This evolution ran parallel with the development of detectors for measuring light intensities, i.e. from the human eye via the photo element and photocell, to the photomultiplier and from the photo graphic plate to the present silicon-diode detector both of which allow simultaneous measurement of the complete spectrum. With the development of quantum chemistry, increasing atten tion was paid to the correlation between light absorption and the structure of matter with the result that in recent decades a number of excellent discussions of the theory of electronic spectroscopy (UV-VIS and luminescence sp,~ctroscopy) have been published. Consequently, this extremely ivteresting aspect of molecular spec troscopy has dominated the teaching of the subject both in my own lectures and those of others. However, it is often overlooked that, in addition to the theory, applications of spectroscopic methods are of particular interest to scientists. For this reason, a lecture series about electronic spectroscopy given in the Institute for Physical Chemistry at the Heinrich-Heine-University in Dusseldorf was supplemented by one about "UV-VIS spectroscopy and its applications". This formed the basis of the present book.

Book Synopsis Juricultural Pluralism vis-à-vis Treaty Law by : Sandra L. Bunn-Livingstone
Download or read book Juricultural Pluralism vis-à-vis Treaty Law written by Sandra L. Bunn-Livingstone and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2002-03-01 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The way in which 'legal' culture has been defined in the past has limited comparative processes to law itself. The author proposes a new term, 'juriculture', defined as 'the axiological and behavioural formula which pertains to the law.' This new definition provides a comparative tool which focuses on ontological and epistemological bases of law and concomitant legal theories which are distilled from these philosophical bases, in addition to primary and secondary rules, and written laws. This book tackles the crucial issue of how divergent individual, State, and Regional cultures impact the international legal system in the law and State practice vis-à-vis treaty interpretation and reservations. An empirical analysis of cases in the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal and six human rights' treaties demonstrate that beyond weak juricultural pluralism, which the international legal system provides for, there is also strong juricultural pluralism, which is not envisaged by the system. This highlights the tension between universality and diversity in both primary and secondary rules, and international law itself. This book is a must for those interested in human rights, treaty law, culture, and legal theory.
Book Synopsis Bt Cotton vis-à-vis Traditional Cotton Varieties: The Economics and Returns in the State of Maharashtra in India by : Vasant P. Gandhi

This book was released on 2010-08-09 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Breakthroughs in science and technology often produce stunning results such as in the green revolution which swept through much of Asia averting the food crisis. Given the present slowing of agricultural growth and rising commodity prices, breakthroughs are once again urgently required and this has put biotechnology at the forefront of a new potential green revolution. One of the frontrunners in this has been development of Bt Cotton which was introduced into India in 2002, amidst much hesitation, after its induction in a large number of other countries. Whereas it has been accepted and has spread rapidly in India leading to a substantial growth in cotton production, there are conflicting reports about its success and various issues and problems have been raised. In light of this, the book examines the performance of Bt Cotton vis-à-vis non-Bt Cotton in the state of Maharashtra which is the largest cotton growing state by area. This is part of a coordinated study undertaken by the authors for the Ministry of Agriculture covering four major cotton states—Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu—which together account for about 70 percent of the country's cotton production. The book examines the adoption, experience, performance and economics of Bt cotton in Maharashtra. It reports on the advantages, disadvantages as well as other observations on Bt cotton as conveyed by the farmers of the state.

This book was released on 2015-08-03 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract The FDRE constitution has established ethnic federal arrangement in one hand and incorporates everyone’s right to freedom of movement and residence everywhere within Ethiopian territory on the other. Besides this, ethnic self determination has established as a cornerstone of the federal system. But, there is no any single study has conducted to look at the practical serene coexistence of Ethiopian federal system and the right to freedom of movement and residence. Thus, the main issue addressed in this paper is whether the federal system has implemented properly in congruent with the right to freedom of movement and residence of individuals in Ethiopia. The thesis has also tried to explore whether the institutions put in place to safeguard the right to freedom of movement and residence has worked efficiently and effectively by way of giving the required remedy in case of violation. In doing so the writer has analyzed cases with integrating interview responses as well as explores other countries experiences. After conducting serious analysis, the writer has, eventually, reached to the following findings: ethnic federal setup of Ethiopia has practically negative implication on the right to freedom of movement and residence; ethnic based political parties are also responsible for the violation due to their contribution to the increasing ethnic consciousness of the society. Governmental safeguard institutions are not properly safeguarding this right from the pitfall of Ethiopian ethnic federal system; Misuse of ethnicity for political game by the ruling EPRDF party has aggravated the impact of ethnic federal system on the violation of such freedom.

Do you find that, no matter how much time and energy you expend, how many different approaches you employ, regardless of subject or grade level or class size, one all-too-familiar pattern prevails: many learn much, with modest effort; many learn some, with great effort; far too many learn little, no matter how much effort? Bal-A-Vis-X enables both students and teachers to break that pattern, to work together is such a way that many more learn much, with modest effect; very many more learn more, with new found focus of effort; only a few, those who refuse, learn little. Bal-A-Vis-X is both a destination and a portal-to-beyond for any student or teacher willing to go.-- back cover
