Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on solved problems concerning vibrations and stability of complex beam systems. The complexity of a system is considered from two points of view: the complexity originating from the nature of the structure, in the case of two or more elastically connected beams; and the complexity derived from the dynamic behavior of the system, in the case of a damaged single beam, resulting from the harm done to its simple structure. Furthermore, the book describes the analytical derivation of equations of two or more elastically connected beams, using four different theories (Euler, Rayleigh, Timoshenko and Reddy-Bickford). It also reports on a new, improved p-version of the finite element method for geometrically nonlinear vibrations. The new method provides more accurate approximations of solutions, while also allowing us to analyze geometrically nonlinear vibrations. The book describes the appearance of longitudinal vibrations of damaged clamped-clamped beams as a result of discontinuity (damage). It describes the cases of stability in detail, employing all four theories, and provides the readers with practical examples of stochastic stability. Overall, the book succeeds in collecting in one place theoretical analyses, mathematical modeling and validation approaches based on various methods, thus providing the readers with a comprehensive toolkit for performing vibration analysis on complex beam systems.

Book Synopsis Control of Axially Moving Systems by : Keum-Shik Hong
Download or read book Control of Axially Moving Systems written by Keum-Shik Hong and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive guideline on dynamic analysis and vibration control of axially moving systems. First, the mathematical models of various axially moving systems describing the string, beam, belt, and plate models are developed. Accordingly, dynamical issues such as the equilibrium configuration, critical velocity, stability, bifurcation, and further chaotic dynamics are analyzed. Second, this book covers the design of the control schemes based on the hitherto control strategies for axially moving systems: feedback control using the transfer function, variable structure control, control by regulating the axial velocity, wave cancellation approach, boundary control using the Lyapunov method, adaptive control, and hybrid control methods. Finally, according to the contents discussed in the book, specific aspects are outlined for initiating future research endeavors to be undertaken concerning axially moving systems. This book is useful to graduate students and researchers in industrial sectors such as continuous manufacturing systems, transport systems, power transmission systems, and lifting systems not to mention in academia.

Book Synopsis Vibrations and Waves in Continuous Mechanical Systems by : Peter Hagedorn
Download or read book Vibrations and Waves in Continuous Mechanical Systems written by Peter Hagedorn and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-10-22 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of vibrations is of fundamental importance in engineering and technology. Discrete modelling is sufficient to understand the dynamics of many vibrating systems; however a large number of vibration phenomena are far more easily understood when modelled as continuous systems. The theory of vibrations in continuous systems is crucial to the understanding of engineering problems in areas as diverse as automotive brakes, overhead transmission lines, liquid filled tanks, ultrasonic testing or room acoustics. Starting from an elementary level, Vibrations and Waves in Continuous Mechanical Systems helps develop a comprehensive understanding of the theory of these systems and the tools with which to analyse them, before progressing to more advanced topics. Presents dynamics and analysis techniques for a wide range of continuous systems including strings, bars, beams, membranes, plates, fluids and elastic bodies in one, two and three dimensions. Covers special topics such as the interaction of discrete and continuous systems, vibrations in translating media, and sound emission from vibrating surfaces, among others. Develops the reader’s understanding by progressing from very simple results to more complex analysis without skipping the key steps in the derivations. Offers a number of new topics and exercises that form essential steppingstones to the present level of research in the field. Includes exercises at the end of the chapters based on both the academic and practical experience of the authors. Vibrations and Waves in Continuous Mechanical Systems provides a first course on the vibrations of continuous systems that will be suitable for students of continuous system dynamics, at senior undergraduate and graduate levels, in mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering. It will also appeal to researchers developing theory and analysis within the field.

Book Synopsis Numerical Analysis of Vibrations of Structures under Moving Inertial Load by : Czesław I. Bajer
Download or read book Numerical Analysis of Vibrations of Structures under Moving Inertial Load written by Czesław I. Bajer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moving inertial loads are applied to structures in civil engineering, robotics, and mechanical engineering. Some fundamental books exist, as well as thousands of research papers. Well known is the book by L. Frýba, Vibrations of Solids and Structures Under Moving Loads, which describes almost all problems concerning non-inertial loads. This book presents broad description of numerical tools successfully applied to structural dynamic analysis. Physically we deal with non-conservative systems. The discrete approach formulated with the use of the classical finite element method results in elemental matrices, which can be directly added to global structure matrices. A more general approach is carried out with the space-time finite element method. In such a case, a trajectory of the moving concentrated parameter in space and time can be simply defined. We consider structures described by pure hyperbolic differential equations such as strings and structures described by hyperbolic-parabolic differential equations such as beams and plates. More complex structures such as frames, grids, shells, and three-dimensional objects, can be treated with the use of the solutions given in this book.

This book was released on 2020-04-11 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explains the dramatic effect of cross-correlations in forming the structural response of aircraft in turbulent excitation, ships in rough seas, cars on irregular roads, and other dynamic regimes. It brings into sharp focus the dramatic effect of cross correlations often neglected due to the analytical difficulty of their evaluation. Veteran author Professor Isaac Elishakoff illustrates how neglect of cross correlations could result in underestimation of the response by tens or hundreds of percentages the effect of the random vibrations of structures’ main elements, including beams, plates, and shells.
