Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Particle Image Velocimetry is undoubtedly one of the most important technique in Fluid-dynamics since it allows to obtain a direct and instantaneous visualization of the flow field in a non-intrusive way. This innovative technique spreads in a wide number of research fields, from aerodynamics to medicine, from biology to turbulence researches, from aerodynamics to combustion processes. The book is aimed at presenting the PIV technique and its wide range of possible applications so as to provide a reference for researchers who intended to exploit this innovative technique in their research fields. Several aspects and possible problems in the analysis of large- and micro-scale turbulent phenomena, two-phase flows and polymer melts, combustion processes and turbo-machinery flow fields, internal waves and river/ocean flows were considered.

This book was released on 1996-10-31 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this volume reflect to a large extent the efforts made by a group of Institutes at the ETH Zürich to develop new techniques for measurements of flows in fluids in the last decade. The motivation came from the study of tr~sport and mixing processes in natural and industrial systems. One of the characteristic properties of turbulence is its high mixing efficiency. The techniques developed are therefore suitable, although not exclusively, for turbulence measurements. They can be subdivided into point-measurements and field-measurements. The aim of the point-measurements developed is to determine the three components of the velocity and all their first derivatives with good temporal resolution and accuracy in turbulent flows. The old and weIl established method of hot-wire anemometry was used for this purpose. One of the main achievements in this context is the construction of miniature multi-wire probes. This technique was introduced to the Institute of Hydromechanics and Water Resources Management of ETH Zürich by Profs. A. Tsinober and E. Kit from Tel-Aviv University. This was made possible by the generous financial support by ETH, for which I would like to express my gratitude on this occasion. In addition, Dr. F.E. Joergensen from DANTEC contributed an example of recent developments in the hardware ofConstant Temperature Anemometry (CTA), for which I am very thankful.

Book Synopsis Vortex Flows and Related Numerical Methods by : J.T. Beale
Download or read book Vortex Flows and Related Numerical Methods written by J.T. Beale and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many important phenomena in fluid motion are evident in vortex flow, i.e., flows in which vortical structures are significant in determining the whole flow. This book, which consists of lectures given at a NATO ARW held in Grenoble (France) in June 1992, provides an up-to-date account of current research in the study of these phenomena by means of numerical methods and mathematical modelling. Such methods include Eulerian methods (finite difference, spectral and wavelet methods) as well as Lagrangian methods (contour dynamics, vortex methods) and are used to study such topics as 2- or 3-dimensional turbulence, vorticity generation by solid bodies, shear layers and vortex sheets, and vortex reconnection. For researchers and graduate students in computational fluid dynamics, numerical analysis, and applied mathematics.
Book Synopsis An Innovative Approach to Nonintrusive Quantitative Measurements of Vortex Flows by : Gerald N. Malcolm
Download or read book An Innovative Approach to Nonintrusive Quantitative Measurements of Vortex Flows written by Gerald N. Malcolm and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique flow measurement technique was used to obtain quantitative vortex flow field data. This demonstration demonstrated that a video based data acquisition system, Expertvision, could be used to measure the velocity of flow through some parts of the flow field. The system systematically tracks packets of colored dye ejected from the models into there surrounding flow fields and then subsequently reduces the data to position, velocity and acceleration measurements for individual vortex cores. Vortex core data were collected for 70 and 80 degree delta wing models with both stationary and forced roll oscillation roll conditions. Keywords: Flow visualization, Flow measurement, Vortex flow. Book Synopsis In the Wake of Bubbles by : Oscar Conesa Palacios
Download or read book In the Wake of Bubbles written by Oscar Conesa Palacios and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper, the PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) non-intrusive technique is proposed to calculate the velocity field in the wake of a single bubble rising with a rectilinear path in a quiescent liquid. The aim of this study is to find a general equation which describes the velocity of the flow in a bubble wake. Then, it will be possible to find the term relative to the convective mass transfer around the bubble and, at last, the total mass transfer around it. The set-up tracks the velocity field evolution along the bubble wake for a parallel plane to the bubble path. A spherical bubble is created through a capillary thanks to the constant pressure which applies a syringe pushed by a programmable syringe pump, regulating in this way the advance speed of the injected air. The bubble rises through a glass column containing different solutions, thus presenting different viscosity and Re conditions. Each of these solutions is seeded with silvered tracer particles whose movement allows following the flow velocity field thanks to the PIV method. A high speed camera is located far from the column in order to record the bubble position, size and velocity. This camera is also synchronized with the laser flash by a synchronizer processor. All the experiments have been carried out with bubbles ranging from 0.75 to 3 mm and with 6 hydrodynamic conditions (1

This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A research program was undertaken to develop a new experimental technique commonly known as particle image displacement velocity (PIVD) to measure an instantaneous two dimensional velocity field in a selected plane of flow field. This technique was successfully developed and applied to the study of several aerodynamic problems. A detailed description of the technique and a broad review of all the research activity carried out in this field are reported. A list of technical publications is also provided. The application of PIDV to unsteady flows with large scale structures is demonstrated in a study of the temporal evolution of the flow past an impulsively started circular cylinder. The instantaneous two dimensional flow in the transition region of a rectangular air jet was measured using PIDV and the details are presented. This experiment clearly demonstrates the PIDV capability in the measurement of turbulent flows. Preliminary experiments were also conducted to measure the instantaneous flow over a circular bump in a transonic flow. Several other experiments now routinely use PIDV as a non-intrustive measurement technique to obtain instantaneous two dimensional velocity fields. Krothapalli, A.
