Book excerpt: The idea of "VEGAS DRIVER" popped into my brain in Las Vegas in 2017. I started as an Uber driver in Washington D.C., Virginia, and Maryland in 2013. When we moved to Las Vegas, I continued driving for Uber and Lyft in 2015. As a long-time Uber and Lyft driver, I can claim that I am the longest loyal driver, with the highest number of completed rides of 23,000. In the past seven years, I have seen many unbelievable incidents while driving for Uber and Lyft. The "VEGAS DRIVER" is a book series that contains crazy, funny, sad, incredible, engaging, and entertaining stories. It is also a very informative book about all minor and significant blind spots and issues in rideshare companies' platforms as drivers, riders, or readers. When you are reading this book series, I hope you can feel yourself in my shoes. I am very excited to be sharing all my stories and experiences as a rideshare driver with you. I hope you like and enjoy it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wall Street seems short on vision these days. Investors are living day to day, planning no further than the next quarterly earnings reports. That’s no way to invest. Former investment banker and hedge fund manager Hilary Kramer advocates a different approach: GameChanger Investing. Based on her thirty-plus years managing billions of investment dollars, Kramer—a globally recognized futurist—shows you how to make money and stay ahead of the wave in a constantly changing world. As long as people keep innovating, dreaming, and executing, great companies will grow and create wealth. But not all growth companies are created equal. From fintech to food-tech, information warfare to the Internet of Things, Kramer identifies the specific technologies, trends, and companies that are both changing the world and poised for significant stock appreciation. GameChanger Investing is visionary investing, but it’s not speculation. Kramer identifies companies with rock-solid fundamentals ready for catalysts that will turn them into major disruptors. Download or read book The Big Rig written by Steve Viscelli and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2016-04-12 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long-haul trucks have been described as sweatshops on wheels. The typical long-haul trucker works the equivalent of two full-time jobs, often for little more than minimum wage. But it wasn’t always this way. Trucking used to be one of the best working-class jobs in the United States. The Big Rig explains how this massive degradation in the quality of work has occurred, and how companies achieve a compliant and dedicated workforce despite it. Drawing on more than 100 in-depth interviews and years of extensive observation, including six months training and working as a long-haul trucker, Viscelli explains in detail how labor is recruited, trained, and used in the industry. He then shows how inexperienced workers are convinced to lease a truck and to work as independent contractors. He explains how deregulation and collective action by employers transformed trucking’s labor markets--once dominated by the largest and most powerful union in US history--into an important example of the costs of contemporary labor markets for workers and the general public.
Book Synopsis Driver Distraction and Inattention by : Mr Trent W Victor
Download or read book Driver Distraction and Inattention written by Mr Trent W Victor and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-02-28 with total page 882 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is estimated that, in the United States, around 20 percent of all Police-reported road crashes involve driver distraction as a contributing factor. This figure increases if other forms of inattention are considered. Evidence (reviewed in this volume) suggests that the situation is similar in other countries and that driver distraction and inattention are even more dangerous as contributing factors in crashes than drug and alcohol intoxication. Having a solid evidence-base from which to develop injury countermeasures is a cornerstone of road-safety management. This book adds to the accumulating evidence-base on driver distraction and inattention. With 24 chapters by 52 authors from more than 10 countries, it provides important new perspectives on the definition and meaning of driver distraction and inattention, the mechanisms that characterize them, the measurement of their effects, strategies for mitigating their effects, and recommendations for further research. The goal of this book is to inspire further research and countermeasure development to prevent and mitigate the potentially adverse effects of driver distraction and driver inattention, and, in doing so, to save lives.

Download or read book Final Justice written by W.E.B. Griffin and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2003-12-30 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just as with his remarkable military novels, millions of readers have been captured by the rich characters and vivid realism of W. E. B. Griffin’s police dramas. “Griffin has the knack,” writes The Philadelphia Inquirer. He “sets his novel before you in short, fierce, stop-for-nothing scenes. Before you know it, you’ve gobbled it up.” Now, in Final Justice, Detective Matt Payne of the Philadelphia police department—newly promoted to sergeant and assigned to Homicide—finds himself in the middle of three major assignments. The first case, a fatal shooting at a fast-food restaurant, seems simple, but rapidly becomes complicated. The second, a rape that tumbled into murder, begins complicated and only gets more so, as it becomes apparent that the crime may be part of a disturbing, and escalating, pattern. The third is the most bizarre, as Payne becomes involved with a local figure who long ago fled the country, leaving behind the mummified body of his girlfriend in a trunk. Ever since, the murderer has been sending taunting postcards from his safe haven—but all that may be about to change. Weaving in and around this already hectic schedule are the visit to Philadelphia of the self-absorbed star of a series of improbable police movies, who wants Payne to show him “the real stuff,” and the appearance in Payne’s life of two very different women. Either one of them alone would be enough to set his head spinning, but together . . . this might be the most complicating thing of all. Filled with color and detail and plots as real as the headlines, this is a riveting novel of the men and women who put their lives on the line, from the cop on the beat to the commissioner himself. It’s a story of fears, dangers, courage, loyalty, and genuine heroism: storytelling at its best.
