Book Synopsis Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA) Associated Vasculitis by : Renato Alberto Sinico
Download or read book Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA) Associated Vasculitis written by Renato Alberto Sinico and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-13 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, written by well-known experts in the field, covers all aspects of Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody (ANCA) Associated Vasculitis (AAV). The expression refers to a group of diseases, characterized by destruction and inflammation of small vessels. The clinical signs vary and affect several organs, such as the kidney, lung, skin, nervous system and others. The opening chapters give some historical hints, explain the genetic basis of the disease and provide insights into the pathogenesis derived from recent experimental studies and guides the reader through classification and nomenclature. A large part of the book is then devoted to a detailed description of the specific related diseases and their clinical presentations, the disease course, and potential complications. The advice regarding treatment is based on the best currently available evidence in this constantly evolving area. The book is part of Springer’s series Rare Diseases of the Immune System, which presents recently acquired knowledge on pathogenesis, diagnosis, and therapy with the aim of promoting a more holistic approach to these conditions. AAVs are systemic autoimmune diseases of unknown cause that affect small (to medium) sized blood vessels. They include granulomatosis with polyangiitis (formerly Wegener's granulomatosis), microscopic polyangiitis, and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (formerly Churg–Strauss syndrome). This volume will be an invaluable source of up-to-date information for all practitioners involved in the care of patients with these diseases.

Book excerpt: Vascular Inflammation: A Novel Understanding of Vascular Diseases and Innovative Strategies for Prevention presents a novel approach to understanding vascular function, vascular dysfunction and vascular diseases. In this title, renowned international experts provide answers with regards to the definition of vascular inflammation, explore a range of relevant aspects of the concept, along with their impact in both understanding as well as treating vascular inflammation and its consequences. Topic include history, mechanisms, genetic basis, disease manifestations and treatment approaches. This cross-disciplinary book is intended for researchers and physicians in the fields of vascular biology, immunology and atherosclerosis. Although there is a large and growing body of evidence about the functional impact of vascular inflammation, the concept as such has never been well defined. Vascular Inflammation is key in understanding any vascular pathology, as well as vascular development and physiological vascular function.
Book Synopsis Vascular Inflammation in Systemic Autoimmunity by : Giuseppe A. Ramirez
Download or read book Vascular Inflammation in Systemic Autoimmunity written by Giuseppe A. Ramirez and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasticity and dynamism characterize the immune system as a tissue-integrating network with defensive functions. Blood and lymphatic vessel trees constitute the most evident and intuitive physical platform for the development of the net of interactions between immune cells, body tissues and foreign agents. Moreover vessel repair and immune patrolling are intimately linked physiological functions with common evolutionary roots. Not surprisingly variable degrees of vascular inflammation are often detectable in the setting of systemic inflammation and autoimmunity, whereas research in the field of cardiovascular pathology is progressively converging towards the identification of a common inflammatory background. The definition of the role of vascular inflammation in causing, sustaining and/or predicting the development of systemic autoimmunity constitute a challenging, unexplored frontier towards the development of a new generation of treatments and a better patient care.

Book Synopsis Vasculitis In Practice by : Reem Mohammed
Download or read book Vasculitis In Practice written by Reem Mohammed and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Vasculitis" describes an inflammatory process that involves the blood vessels and contributes to vascular damage. Autoimmunity, infections, drugs, and malignancies have been considered among potential etio-pathogenic factors. In vasculitis, the inflammation might develop in either a systemic or an organ-specific form and might exist as an independent pathology "primary vasculitis" or as a presentation of an existing primary pathology, that is, "secondary vasculitis". This book Vasculitis In Practice-An Update on Special Situations - Clinical and Therapeutic Considerations unlike many publications in the field, uses a different evidence-based approach to organ-specific vascular inflammatory diseases. The authors highlighted the unmet needs from the 1994 Chapel Hill Consensus Conference introducing the latest clinically relevant definitions for the different forms of vasculitis revised in 2012. The identification, classification, and management of kidney disease with different types of vasculitis with an evidence-based update on proposed therapeutic strategies are presented in this publication.

Book Synopsis Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis by : Jozef Rovensky
Download or read book Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis written by Jozef Rovensky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-06 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the present monograph, we offer current insights into polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arthritis. Both diseases are typical for advanced age, and their incidences increase with aging. Both diseases are a center point of interest not only for rheu- tologists, gerontologists, ophthalmologists or neurologists, but also for general prac- tioners. Early diagnosis and rapid treatment, mainly with glucocorticoids can save one of the most precious senses-vision. Damage to other organs (heart, aorta, co- nary arteries, liver, lungs, kidneys), which are supplied by the arteries affected by ischemic syndrome in the setting of giant cell arthritis, has serious consequences as well. Late diagnosis of giant cell arthritis can have fatal consequences for affected patients. It is a matter of fact that the human population is aging. Therefore, more attention has to be paid not only to diagnosis, clinical course and treatment of rheumatic d- eases in elderly, but also to their genetic, immunologic, endocrinologic, chronobiologic mechanisms, and state-of-the-art diagnostic modalities. I am convinced that the int- disciplinary research of the diseases will allow us to diagnose and treat the rheumatic diseases even faster and more effectively in the future.
Book Synopsis Vascular Responses to Pathogens by : Felicity N.E. Gavins
Download or read book Vascular Responses to Pathogens written by Felicity N.E. Gavins and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vascular Responses to Pathogens focuses on the growing research from leaders in the field for both the short and long-term impact of pathogens on the vasculature. It discusses various organisms, including bacteria, parasites, and viruses, and their role in key events leading to vascular disease. Formatted to discuss the topic of the interaction of pathogens with the vascular rather than individual diseases described separately, this reference demonstrates that common mechanisms are at play in many different diseases because they have a similar context, their vasculature. This all-inclusive reference book is a must-have tool for researchers and practicing clinicians in the areas of vascular biology, microvasculature, cardiology, and infectious disease.
