This book was released on 2020-04-25 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book intends to present the development of socio-spatial practices in the metropolitan coast of the Northeast of Brazil, highlighting the main urban, spa and tourist agglomerations: Salvador-BA, Recife-PE, Fortaleza-CE, and Natal-RN. The objective is to study the processes of urbanization associated with maritime leisure. In the first chapter, the reader will find a historical and conceptual presentation highlighting the relevance of leisure practices, their forms-flows and their role in the formation of maritime resorts. The second chapter analyses the context of the northeastern region of Brazil and demonstrates the process of modernization and formation of the seaside function within the cities, and later, in the maritime metropolises of the region. The relationship between urbanization and touristic real estate ventures is the central theme of the third chapter, which proposes a specific methodology for studies of this nature. The final chapter presents the seaside resorts in the metropolitan area of Fortaleza, a case study similar to others in the Northeast, examining the urbanistic effects and the key ideas of the planners.

Book Synopsis Urban Growth in Emerging Economies by : Gordon McGranahan
Download or read book Urban Growth in Emerging Economies written by Gordon McGranahan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-29 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Along with globalization, urban transitions have been central in the southward shift in economic power towards the newly emerging economies. As this book shows, however, these transitions have not been painless, and it is important for the rest of the urbanizing world to learn from the mistakes. It examines the role of urbanization and urban growth in the emerging economies, taking the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) as case studies. Their different approaches towards urbanization have shaped their historical development paths and assisted or constrained their futures. Several of the BRICS bear heavy burdens from past failures to accommodate urban growth inclusively and efficiently, and many other urbanizing countries in Asia and Africa are in danger of replicating their mistakes. The overriding lesson of the book is that cities and nations must anticipate urbanization, and accommodate urban growth pro-actively, so as not to be left with an enduring legacy of inequalities and lost opportunities. This book is aimed at students and researchers in urban studies and development studies. It will also be of interest to policy advisors concerned with urbanization and the role of cities in a country’s development
Book Synopsis Law and Urban Change in Brazil by : Edesio Fernandes
Download or read book Law and Urban Change in Brazil written by Edesio Fernandes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 1995 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book undertakes a socio-legal analysis of the relation between law and the process of urban change in Brazil throughout this century. This is done through a critique of the evolution of urban legislation, as well as the discussion of some of the main forms of legal pluralism brought about by the urban processes concerning access to urban land and housing. The book aims to widen the scope of the existing urban research, which has largely underestimated the legal dimension of the urbanization process. It also aims to offer insights which should contribute to the understanding of the democratic process of social mobilization around urban issues.

It is an inquiry into various historical developments influencing structure, culture, economics and racial composition on a country level. It also examines trends in early settlement, regions, immigration divided into four distinct periods, and the trajectory of its urban transition. It is possible that the lessons learned from a country that has experienced such a compelling immigration and rapid urbanization could hold keys for other countries currently undergoing this process. It is the intention of this study to provide the basis for such an inquiry.
