Book Synopsis Unresolved problems in Haemophilia by : C.D. Forbes
Download or read book Unresolved problems in Haemophilia written by C.D. Forbes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings are of a symposium held jointly by the UK Haemophilia Centre Directors and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. The purpose of the meeting was to highlight the growing areas of haemophilia care and research as they serve as a model for the study of other disorders. In particular a major section of these proceedings is devoted to the investigation of liver disease in haemophili- an area which offers unique opportunities for both basic, applied and clinical research. The second section considers modern treatment of bleeding disorders and the potential cost to society. With the advent of better standards of care, the requirements of plasma products have risen to such an extent that future predictions suggest a worldwide shortage may occur. The third section of the book discusses the detailed structure of the Factor VIII molecule and its sub-compon(!nts and also its functional and immunological characteristics. The availability of amniocentesis and its accuracy in predicting which factor is affected has produced new problems for genetic counselling. The fourth section is clinical and describes the experience of procedures in the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Oxford. For all of us looking after such patients this remains the most important unsolved cI inical problem. C. D. Forbes G. D. O. Book Synopsis Intelligent Healthcare Systems by : Vania V. Estrela
Download or read book Intelligent Healthcare Systems written by Vania V. Estrela and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-08-04 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book sheds light on medical cyber-physical systems while addressing image processing, microscopy, security, biomedical imaging, automation, robotics, network layers’ issues, software design, and biometrics, among other areas. Hence, solving the dimensionality conundrum caused by the necessity to balance data acquisition, image modalities, different resolutions, dissimilar picture representations, subspace decompositions, compressed sensing, and communications constraints. Lighter computational implementations can circumvent the heavy computational burden of healthcare processing applications. Soft computing, metaheuristic, and deep learning ascend as potential solutions to efficient super-resolution deployment. The amount of multi-resolution and multi-modal images has been augmenting the need for more efficient and intelligent analyses, e.g., computer-aided diagnosis via computational intelligence techniques. This book consolidates the work on artificial intelligence methods and clever design paradigms for healthcare to foster research and implementations in many domains. It will serve researchers, technology professionals, academia, and students working in the area of the latest advances and upcoming technologies employing smart systems’ design practices and computational intelligence tactics for medical usage. The book explores deep learning practices within particularly difficult computational types of health problems. It aspires to provide an assortment of novel research works that focuses on the broad challenges of designing better healthcare services.
Book Synopsis Clinical Immunobiology by : Fritz H. Bach
Download or read book Clinical Immunobiology written by Fritz H. Bach and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinical Immunobiology, Volume 2 covers the advances in the field being made to apply bone marrow transplantation to the treatment of several diseases. This volume is divided into 11 chapters and begins with surveys of the clinical considerations of bone marrow transplantation. Considerable chapters are devoted to the application of this transplantation to the treatment of various diseases, including aplastic anemia, aregenerative pancytopenia, leukemia, uniformly fatal severe combined immunodeficiency diseases, and Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome. Other chapters examine the cellular engineering in the form of bone marrow and thymus transplantation. The remaining chapters consider the effects of exposure to excessive amounts of radiation or cytotoxic chemicals, as well as the hematopoietic failure based on malfunction of the complex process of normal hematological development and maintenance. This book will be of great value to clinical immunobiologists, practicing physicians, researchers, and medical and biology students.
