Download or read book Common Security in Outer Space and International Law written by Detlev Wolter (jurist.) and published by United Nations Publications UNIDIR. This book was released on 2006 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication explores the concept of common security and the legal foundations for its application in outer space law, based on the premise that outer space is an internationalised common area beyond the national jurisdiction of individual states, and therefore security in space must be the common security of all states. Chapters cover a range of issues including: the principle of the peaceful use of outer space, passive military uses, and multilateral negotiations to prevent an arms race in outer space; structural change of international law and the common heritage of mankind principle; and proposals for a multilateral agreement and the creation of an International Organisation for Common Security in Outer Space.

Book Synopsis Multilateral Diplomacy / La Diplomatie Multilatérale by : Chossudovsky
Download or read book Multilateral Diplomacy / La Diplomatie Multilatérale written by Chossudovsky and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-25 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first part of this book, distinguished diplomats and eminent academics have contributed papers on the concept of international organization, on international conference diplomacy and on negotiating strategies, while experts have provided practical advice on conference management and tips on getting ideas and positions heard and understood in this particular setting. A second part includes notices on the United Nations organizations headquartered in Geneva, with special emphasis on what may be called their institutional culture', and a third part, including an invaluable presentation by the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, is devoted to the question of privileges and immunities. There are many studies, academic or otherwise, on the United Nations organizations but hardly any provide this kind of practical guidance for diplomats and national officials first confronted with the Geneva multilateral setting. The book is primarily intended for them, but is also of interest for those concerned with international relations.

Book Synopsis Safeguards Systems Analysis by : R. Avenhaus
Download or read book Safeguards Systems Analysis written by R. Avenhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adequate verification is the key issue not only in today's arms control, arms limitation, and disarmament regimes, but also in less spectacular areas like auditing in economics or control of environmental pollution. Statistical methodologies and system analytical approaches are the tools developed over the past decades for quantifying those components of adequate verification which are quantifiable, i. e. , numbers, inventories, mass transfers, etc. , together with their uncertainties. In his book Safeguards Systems Analy sis, Professor Rudolf Avenhaus condenses the experience and expertise he has gained over the past 20 years, when his work was mainly related to the development of the IAEA's system for safeguarding nuclear materials, to system analytical studies at IIASA in the field of future energy requirements and their risks, and to the application of statistical techniques to arms control. The result is a unified and up-to-date presentation and analysis of the quantitative aspects of safeguards systems, and the application of the more important findings to practical problems. International Nuclear Material Safeguards, by far the most advanced verification system in the field of arms limitation, is used as the main field of application for the game theoretical analysis, material accountancy theory, and the theory on verification of material accounting data developed in the first four chapters.
Download or read book Open Skies written by Pál Dunay (OSCE.) and published by UN. This book was released on 2004 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multilateral Open Skies Treaty was signed in 1992 (although it did not enter into force until 2002) and covers all NATO and former Warsaw Treaty members, including the main successor states to the former Soviet Union. The treaty enables states to overfly and observe the territory of one another, as part of the process of verifying and monitoring arms control agreements. As the imagery taken during observation flights is accessible to all parties, the treaty places all members on an equal footing and requires crews of the inspecting and inspected states to work closely together. This publication, based on research carried out during 1995-2000, examines the concept of the Open Skies regime and prospects for its future adaptation, taking into account current international security needs and technological possibilities.
