Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domestic Violence is a serious issue when dealing with the hands of your abuser. Domestic Violence is a violent or aggressive behavior within the home, church or workplace, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. Domestic Violence is also willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/ or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern of power and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. I was in an abusive relationship with my abuser for a long period of time. I suffer a lot pain and heartache in the hands of my abuser. He had me brainwashed. He can cheat on me with whomever he wanted too, but I dare not question him why. My abuser told me, “I better not tell anyone and if you do I’ll kill you” Now that stuck with me for a long time. I never told anyone of what he had did to me. I knew I had to fi ght back in order for me to get away from him. None of that worked out for me. He always said the right words to win me back. Yes, I loved him and I didn’t want to see him in jail. I kept everything a secret from my family. I pray that if you are in an abusive relationship to get out and seek help. Yes, he may tell you that he won’t do it again but is it worth losing your LIFE? He’s going to tell you all the good words you love to hear, but is your heart worth losing a BEAT? Don’t be afraid to seek help. It’s up to you to get the help. If you know someone you can trust, please tell them. Always keep a journal of what is going on between you and your abuser. I AM A SURVIVOR of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. I survive the hands of my abuser. To all women’s around the world who is going through an abusive relationship, there is joy on the other side. God will be there in the midst of your storm. May God bless you all!!!!!!!!! Ms. Survivor

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's inconceivable for most of us to imagine a mother as a source of dread or the villain in a nightmare. Mothers are typically associated with feelings of love and trust-nurturers, not monsters. But cruelty knows no gender, and some mothers do harm their defenseless children. Pages tell of horrific parenting and vulgar profanity acted out upon a child who would never know what it was like to feel safe in the presence of his own mother. Where is God? He's crying, too. God's nature is love and He loves the abused so very much. A powerless child struggles to survive emotional and physical pain day after day, year after year. The Charles Rice story is the backdrop to expose what happens to a child when Mommy, the primary caregiver, is furious and unsafe. Home for children like Charles is a dark and frightening world. Now, as an adult, it's time to break free; time to feel good about who they are-to know they have value. This book uncovers truth, births hope, and offers help. Now is the time to release trauma from the past and dance into fresh joy. If healing isn't found, growing up with abuse impacts the quality of future relationships. Statistics prove those who are abused in childhood are at risk of becoming abusers themselves. Let's stop this awful wrong. Pages speak to the physical, emotional, verbal, and neglect maltreatment of children. Sexual abuse is not addressed. Charles Rice was such a child. He knows firsthand what it means to live with a volatile mother. Those memories usher in tears and trigger flashbacks. They testified to wounds that run deep and cry out to be released. No child should ever experience such grievous wrongs and bear such devastating pain. Unfortunately, we live in a world where sin exists and bad things do happen to children. The choice to move beyond a mother's rage takes courage. However, acts of courage are needed to move forward-to that place of letting go. It's there where you find the fresh air of freedom's balm to soothe a dreadful past. This man's voice will help other victims of childhood abuse release their own trauma. It is my prayer that those raised under the heavy hand of an abusive mother will move beyond their sufferings to discover how very real God's love is. Beloved child, you are the apple of His eye. The God, who gave you life, loves you with an everlasting, never-ending, immeasurable love. "Maxine Marsolini has introduced us to an almost unimaginable world of horror in her book: A Mother's Fury. Sadly, the story of Charles Rice, which is told in the book, is not fiction, and it is not as rare as we might hope. Child abuse and neglect is a cancerous reality in our neighborhoods, and is carried forward generation after generation by those who were themselves first innocent victims. The abuse and neglect they suffered was the template given to them of how parents are expected to interact with their own children. However awful the realities of child abuse are, there still remains hope for the victims, both young and old, and this is the powerful message Ms. Marsolini bring to us in her book. At the close of each chapter, are exercises designed to open the doors to healing and freedom from the pain of childhood abuse. Solidly anchored in the truth of Scripture, and in good therapeutic activities, the opportunity is presented for the reader to begin the journey to wholeness. This book can serve well as a starting point for discussions and interventions to enable and empower the victims to step forward onto a path of forgiveness and healing in a nurturing relationship with God. While many victims of childhood abuse will need professional help beyond the scope of this book, I strongly believe that A Mother's Fury is a valuable and important statement that hope and healing can be found for the victims still suffering from the wounds of their childhoods." - James R. Baker, M.A., CADC-1

Book excerpt: DOES YOUR PARTNER . . . * have sudden outbursts of anger or rage? * become jealous without reason? * prevent you from seeing friends and family? * deny you access to family assets such as bank accounts, credit cards, or the car? * control all finances and force you to account for what you spend? * insult you or call you derogatory names? * humiliate you in front of your children? * turn minor incidents into major arguments? If you or someone you know can answer "yes" to the questions above, chances are you are suffering from nonphysical battering--controlling, tyrannical behavior that is just as damaging to a woman's self-esteem as a broken bone or a black eye. An experienced counselor who works with abused women, Mary Susan Miller breaks the silence that surrounds this devastating form of domestic violence. She identifies the many types of nonphysical abuse verbal, emotional, psychological, social, and economic--and explores why this outrageous treatment of women continues unabated in our society. Dr. Miller also shares the stories of many survivors who have escaped their abusive relationships. Their experiences--with law enforcement, the legal system, and the community itself--can help prepare any woman for the decision of whether to stay or leave the relationship. And if she decides to go, Dr. Miller offers sound guidelines on how to protect herself and her children, since a woman's decision to leave is usually the time she is in the most danger from her abuser. Finally, Dr. Miller inspires hope: You can break free of the nightmare of nonphysical battering and heal, once again engaging in a life of integrity, dignity, and peace.

Book excerpt: You Can't Hurt Me Anymore is a true story of overcoming trauma bonds and domestic violence, rising above it to find the inner strength I didn't know I had. Decades of mistreatment programmed me to believe I would never be enough. When the people I loved hurt me the most, my constant yearning for validation began. Finding the power to stand up to my abusers, re-learn acceptable behaviors and transform my cognitive perceptions was the ultimate feat. Getting over, letting go, and resuming a normal life was the hardest thing I've done to date. Realizing that I, ultimately, control my thoughts and feelings, was the greatest achievement I've accomplished. Physical scars heal. Emotional scars take longer, but learning how not to reopen those wounds is empowering. This book is for anyone currently surviving domestic violence in a relationship, suffering through childhood trauma, and feeling like there is no way out. I am living proof that we are stronger and more capable than anything set out to tear us down. Tenacity, determination, perseverance, and hope are not things I was taught. Those traits were within me, but I had to fight to bring them to the surface. In writing this, I want those living this on a daily basis-- whether it is a current abuse situation, an escalating DV situation, or trying to understand why you feel such a connection to someone you shouldn't-- to feel hope. I wish for that reader to feel empowered, emboldened, and encouraged to see the light that is inside bursting to shine. For those who feel unworthy and who believe the lies they've been told about themselves, they aren't true. Happiness, freedom, and safety is just on the other side of courage and bravery. With every end, there is a new beginning. The life you deserve, the happiness you desire, and the unshackled liberty you seek is waiting. It's extremely hard to take that first step, but all you have to do is take it. No matter how small, it is simultaneously the hardest yet the easiest step you'll ever take.

Book excerpt: The world tells you that it's one big cubicle and that there is a box for you, for people like us, survivers of abuse that you must fit into, if you don't want to be chewed up and ruthlessly spat out. These people are psychologists, courts, welfare officials, the law, and most importantly, people you are closest to. They claim to know how you must act, how you must feel and how you are supposed to cope after a traumatic even, or years of trauma at the hands of your abuser. And when you don't feel what they assume you do, you feel like the failure. It's okay to stand up, deal with it your way, and go on to make the rest of your life, the very best of your life. You don't have to linger in it. You don't have to have the rest of your life dictated to living with what happened to you. You do not have to carry the scars around with you, for the rest of your life. The world doesn't understand that. They learn from text books and adopt a kind of a uniformity for how to counsel a survivor, because they assume they know your state of mind and what you went through. They follow guidelines, but they aren't flexible in the way of each story is different, and each survivor is different and deals with their story differently. They place rules on how you should feel and what you should do, and how you can simply attempt to survive normally. They don't really know how you feel or what you've been through. They can't even begin to imagine what you've had to endure. They follow the rules of their textbooks and you follow the idea that you're failing because your plan to survive might not be their's; your plan is not in their books or behind their degrees and in the end, you might be left feeling worse than you did when your journey to healing began. But, your plan got you to where you are now! It has brought you through the very worst of times, and it's pulled you out of what would probably have been the darkest times of your life. Your plan hasn't failed you yet, don't change something that's already brought you this far. They tell you that their way is just just safer for you, and that there is no room for finding your own path in after your traumatic event. They want you to fit into the exact dimensions or designs of how they think you should act, feel, behave and integrate into society afterwards. So, you end up spending your entire life suppressing the fact that you just cannot fit into any sort of box. And then ... as you begin to convince yourself that something might be wide off the mark with you, you begin changing and adapting bit by bit so that you can fit in, because you must, just like everyone else. And, you feel worse. Just like every other person you meet, you realize how desperate they too are, to fit into a box that was once given to them. When we finally realize that we just cannot fit in properly, we surrender and make new boxes for ourselves, in the hopes that nobody knows, and nobody sees. But, you won't always fit in and you won't always want to squash into a corner you know you just can't and don't want to fit into. You begin questioning whether that is, in fact, your box or whether there perhaps, is something wrong with you? Have you been so tainted by what happened to you that you can no longer function normally in society? You move around, and you alter parts of yourself, just to try and fit in; you always try and try. You let go of anything that might take up too much space, or something that might prevent you from fitting snugly. You spend your entire life shaping yourself so that you can fit perfectly, even though you never really know where that intimidating box came from to begin with. Who makes the rules? Did the rule-maker experience the very same, exact event you did? If not, they have no right to confine you to an expectation of how they perceive your path should be.And then, those closest to you give you another box.

Book excerpt: When I slept upstairs I would wake up and hear noises during the night. That's when I got really scared of the dark. I was too scared to go downstairs to the bathroom so I wet the bed. I never used to wet the bed. Now I was wetting the bed all the time. What made me start doing that? I don't remember wetting the bed before this. Did Thomas and I get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night? Did our mom get us up and take us to the bathroom? All I knew was that I was wetting the bed every night and Thomas was making fun of me for it. I was really scared of the dark now. I don't know why I started being so afraid of the dark. What happened to make me be so afraid? This is a raw and powerful story of a woman who has suffered from multiple kinds of abuse and how it has affected every aspect of her life. She has gone through incest, childhood sexual abuse, and mental and verbal abuse. She begins by introducing you to her family and her story starts from there. She goes through her childhood, adult life, and up to the present. She is candid in the way she writes the story of her life. She tells you when and how the sexual abuse happened, how she felt about it at the time, and how it is still affecting her today. She was fifty five when she faced the abuse and started healing from the devastating effects it had on her life. She felt a need to tell her story and it took a lot of courage for her to disclose her life in such an open and honest way. Her story will give you hope and inspiration that you can heal at any age of your life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a true document of issues that follow a child after being abused, it covers a life span of a male child of 4 years to a man well into his sixties. It covers the fear, the mindset that turns his thoughts of hatred and the feeling of being robbed of a childhood that should have been filled with laughter and happiness, to that of being afraid to trust and to love as a normal person would. This is a book that I hope uncovers the reasons for much of the use of abuse as an outlet to release the anger that one stores up over the years. As an expression of a cry for help, with nowhere to go or no one to understand what you're going through. This book also covers the different phases of life you go through trying to find the right answers that may give peace from the guilt and shame you had nothing to do with, but it's inserted in you like a flue shoot or a smallpox vaccine, it makes you immune to trust and the feeling of knowing real love. That everything about those two words and what they stand for, are false and just something in the imagination. Finally, I hope this book will open the eyes of parents everywhere that an abused person can be in every profession from the hospital to nursing home, school to churches and folks of authority. There is no place in society where it does not exist, just waiting to rear its ugly head. Yes those that cause abuse should be punished especially if it ends in a loss of life, but on the other hand, to find help and as a way to create a better society. Not to use it as a tool for women to dominate men or men to use women, but to make us all better human beings. Thank you again for your support.

There are no heroes or villains in this story--just flawed, multi-layered people struggling to live, love, and heal from the traumas of the past. It explores the lives of damaged people struggling to create a meaningful life with a little girl at the center of the conflict It's a powerful story of love, redemption, and personal growth. It clearly demonstrates the cycles of abuse and the heroic struggle to heal. This story is written by a psychologist who candidly shares her own story of emotional abuse and the chaos of struggling to survive and heal her own childhood traumas. Emotional abuse is a major epidemic. How on earth do ill equipped adults--abused themselves as children--navigate life and relationships? You will find courage, hope, and strength in these pages.

What began as a romantic encounter, ended with her running for her life. If she did not run far enough away, one of these days, she was sure he would kill her. But with faith, courage and taking steps in the right direction, you can break the cycle of abuse and be free to live your truth. Book excerpt: What do you think you know about abusive relationships? Only a fragile, powerless woman would stay in an abusive relationship. A woman who stays with her abuser lacks intelligence. She is weak, and that's why she allows herself to be abused. She puts up with it partly because she feels she has no choice, and partly because she is too ashamed to admit that it's happening to her. It doesn't matter if a woman seems to be strong and in control of her life. If she stays with her abuser, it's her own choice. She should just leave. If it's so bad, why doesn't she just leave? Right? Wrong. An abusive man must have had an abusive father. Only men who see their fathers strike their mothers grow up to do that. A man like that can't control his rage. He's charming one minute and a monster the next. Right? Not always. How do intelligent, competent people end up in violent, abusive relationships? We learned, after we'd come through our violent courtship and marriage, that the foundation was set early for both of us. Both of us, in our own particular dysfunctional way, found the partner who mirrored the way we felt about ourselves at the time. This is the story of two people who lost their way...and found it again. This is a road map for those who are struggling in an abusive relationship, with the assurance that if both sides are willing to work, there is a way out. This is not a story about waiting and hoping for the abusive person to change. We learned that in order for our lives to be different, we both had to make different choices or nothing would ever get better. We went through this nightmare, and now we are speaking to you from the other side.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our brains are doing our best to help us out, but they can be real assholes sometimes. Sometimes it seems like your own brain is out to get you—melting down in the middle of the grocery store, picking fights with your date, getting you addicted to something, or shutting down completely at the worst possible moments. You already told your brain firmly that it isn't good to do these things. But your brain has a mind of its own. That's where this book comes in. With humor, patience, and lots of swearing, Dr. Faith shows you the science behind what's going on in your skull and talks you through the process of retraining your brain to respond appropriately to the non-emergencies of everyday life. If you're working to deal with old traumas, or if you just want to have a more measured and chill response to situations you face all the time, this book can help you put the pieces of the puzzle together and get your life and brain back. Here's an excerpt from the book:Knowing what’s going on up in your brain is HUGE. So much of how we interact with the world around us is a completely normal response when we take into account our past experiences and how our brains work. • Freaking the fuck out • Avoiding important shit we need to take care of • Feeling pissed off all the time • Being a dick to people we care about • Putting shit in our bodies that we know isn’t good for us • Doing shit we know is dumb or pointlessNone of these things are fucking helpful. But they all make sense.Your brain has adapted to the circumstances in your life and started doing things to protect you, bless it. It’s not TRYING to fuck you over (even though it totally is, at times). As we navigate the world, nasty shit happens. The brain stores info about the nasty shit to try to avoid it in the future. Sometimes these responses are helpful. Sometimes the responses become a bigger problem than the actual problem was. It’s called a trauma reaction. And even if you aren’t dealing with a specific trauma? Adaptive coping strategies, bad habits, and funky behaviors all wire in similar ways. And research is showing that these issues are actually some of the easier ones to treat in therapy … if we address what’s really going on, rather than just the symptoms.

They’re told by people who have answered an ad for a writer’s retreat and unwittingly joined a “Survivor”-like scenario where the host withholds heat, power, and food. As the storytellers grow more desperate, their tales become more extreme, and they ruthlessly plot to make themselves the hero of the reality show that will surely be made from their plight. This is one of the most disturbing and outrageous books you’ll ever read, one that could only come from the mind of Chuck Palahniuk.

Book excerpt: Get into the Navy SEAL mindset with this raw, brutally honest, in-your-face self-help guide that will teach you how to thrive on adversity. During the brutal crucible of Navy SEAL training, instructors often tell students to "embrace the suck." This phrase conveys the one lesson that is vital for any SEAL hopeful to learn: lean into the suffering and get comfortable being very uncomfortable. In this powerful, no-nonsense guide, Navy SEAL combat veteran turned leadership expert Brent Gleeson teaches you how to transform every area of your life—the Navy SEAL way. Can anyone develop this level of resilience? Gleeson breaks it down to a Challenge-Commitment-Control mindset. He reveals how resilient people view difficulties as a Challenge, where obstacles and failures are opportunities for growth. Next, they have a strong emotional Commitment to their goals and are not easily distracted or deterred. Finally, resilient people focus their energy on the things within their Control, rather than fixating on factors they can't impact. Embrace the Suck provides an actionable roadmap that empowers you to expand your comfort zone to live a more fulfilling, purpose-driven life. Through candid storytelling, behavioral science research, and plenty of self-deprecating humor, Gleeson shows you how to use pain as a pathway, reassess your values, remove temptation, build discipline, suffer with purpose, fail successfully, transform your mind, and achieve more of the goals you set

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centurions were the guardians of Rome. At the height of the Roman Republic there were over five thousand qualified Roman Centurions in the Legions. To be a Centurion required that, in a mostly illiterate society, one be able to read and write clearly, to be able to convey and create orders, to be capable of not only performing every skill of a Roman soldier but teach every skill of a Roman soldier. Becoming a Centurion required intense physical ability, courage beyond the norm, years of sacrifice and a total devotion to the philosophy which was Rome. When Rome fell to barbarian invaders, there were less than five hundred qualified Centurions. Not because Rome had fewer people but because it had fewer willing to make the sacrifices. And the last Centurions left their shields in the heather and took a barbarian bride . . . We are . . . The Last Centurions.
