Book excerpt: Statistics show that one in every four marriages is impacted by infidelity. So the odds are pretty good that you or someone you know has experienced the searing pain of marital infidelity. But adultery is not an automatic death sentence for your marriage. You can trust again. You can restore intimacy. You can have a relationship that you will both cherish for a lifetime. Ten years ago, Gary and Mona Shriver experienced the devastation caused by adultery, and in the course of trying to save themselves, they wrote this book. Raw, transparently honest, the Shrivers’ story alone is an inspiration, offering hope and practical strategies for healing. Now this updated and revised edition adds other real-life stories of betrayal and forgiveness, and new information defining adultery, including the destruction of emotional affairs. Some doubt if a marriage can truly heal after the ravages of infidelity. Unfaithful proves you can. It’s not easy . . . but it can be done. Is it worth it? Yes. And you hold the first step—and hope—in your hand.

Everyone has either cheated or has been cheated on, with very few exceptions. The thing is that no one ever really wants to talk about it ... until now. Book excerpt: In this provocative examination of the fall of the profession of social work from its original mission to aid and serve the underprivileged, Harry Specht and Mark Courtney show how America's excessive trust in individualistic solutions to social problems have led to the abandonment of the poor in this country. A large proportion of all certified social workers today have left the social services to enter private practice, thereby turning to the middle class -- those who can afford psychotherapy -- and away from the poor. As Specht and Courtney persuasively demonstrate, if social work continues to drift in this direction there is good reason to expect that the profession will be entirely engulfed by psychotherapy within the next twenty years, leaving a huge gap in the provision of social services traditionally filled by social workers. The authors examine the waste of public funds this trend occasions, as social workers educated with public money abandon community service in increasing numbers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her 1855 fictionalized autobiography, Mary Gove Nichols told the story of her emancipation from her first unhappy marriage, during which her husband controlled her body, her labor, and her daughter. Rather than the more familiar metaphor of prostitution, Nichols used adultery to define loveless marriages as a betrayal of the self, a consequence far more serious than the violation of a legal contract. Nichols was not alone. In Unfaithful, Carol Faulkner places this view of adultery at the center of nineteenth-century efforts to redefine marriage as a voluntary relationship in which love alone determined fidelity. After the Revolution, Americans understood adultery as a sin against God and a crime against the people. A betrayal of marriage vows, adultery was a cause for divorce in most states as well as a basis for civil suits. Faulkner depicts an array of nineteenth-century social reformers who challenged the restrictive legal institution of marriage, redefining adultery as a matter of individual choice and love. She traces the beginning of this redefinition of adultery to the evangelical ferment of the 1830s and 1840s, when perfectionists like John Humphrey Noyes, founder of the Oneida Community, concluded that marriage obstructed the individual's relationship to God. In the 1840s and 1850s, spiritualist, feminist, and free love critics of marriage fueled a growing debate over adultery and marriage by emphasizing true love and consent. After the Civil War, activists turned the act of adultery into a form of civil disobedience, culminating in Victoria Woodhull's publicly charging the Reverend Henry Ward Beecher with marital infidelity. Unfaithful explores how nineteenth-century reformers mobilized both the metaphor and the act of adultery to redefine marriage between 1830 and 1880 and the ways in which their criticisms of the legal institution contributed to a larger transformation of marital and gender relations that continues to this day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biblical theme of spiritual adultery stands in all its bluntness for a deeply offensive sin—the unfaithfulness of God's covenant people in departing from Yahweh, their husband, and going after false gods. Raymond C. Ortlund Jr. begins by showing how the Genesis vision of human marriage provides the logic and coherent network of meanings for the story of Israel's relationship with Yahweh. He traces the specific theme of marital unfaithfulness, first through the historical books of the Old Testament and then through the prophets, particularly Hosea, Jeremiah and Ezekiel. Turning to the New Testament he also shows how the sad story of Israel's adultery is transcended by the vision of ultimate reality in Christ and his church—the Bridegroom and the Bride. This beautifully written book, a New Studies in Biblical Theology volume, is marked by careful exegesis and deep sensitivity. It is that rare thing—a work of scholarship that calls readers to love God with an ardor that suffuses all of life. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead. This book was previously published under the title Whoredom.

Book excerpt: From New York Times bestselling author of The Last Wife of Henry VIII, a novel about Catherine Howard, wife of Henry's later years Amid the turbulent, faction-ridden late reign of the fearsome Henry, eager high-spirited Catherine Howard caught the king's eye—but not before she had been the sensual plaything of at least three other men. Ignorant of her past, seeing only her youthful exuberance and believing that she could make him happy, he married her—only to discover, too late, that her heart belonged to his gentleman usher Tom Culpeper. As the net of court intrigue tightens around her, and with the Tudor succession yet again in peril because of Prince Edward's severe illness, Queen Catherine struggles to give the angry, bloated and impotent king a son. But when her relations turn against her, she finds herself doomed, just as her cousin Anne Boleyn was, to face the executioner. The Unfaithful Queen lays bare the dark underbelly of the Tudor court, with its sugared rivalries and bitter struggles for power, where a girl of noble family could find herself sent to labor among the turnspits in the kitchens or—should fortune favor her—be exalted to the throne.

Book excerpt: “Yet, you remain like you are,” the pastor admonishes his bride in The Unfaithful Bride. And despite conflicting his-and-her perspectives of what is responsible for their fraught union, it’s evident that both partners can’t help but remain like they are—for better or worse. In relationships we may attempt repairs, many times and to different parts, but what often results from these improvements is the sad fact that “You buy a half-litre of fuel/For a journey of three miles.” When a union is ill-fated, no amount of effort or derision or even begging can make the road smoother. That road is also unlikely to ever reach a beneficial destination. If what’s “Spoken by a Man of God” assails this bride to such a degree that readers question why both partners don’t choose to halt this shared journey in recognition that together they are headed nowhere, intangible elements—in contrast to mechanical—such as attraction and chemistry must be credited for an intimacy that’s both painful and passionate. As the preface asserts: “Both the pastor and his bride are bewitched.” In order to ensure that readers experience a similar bewitchment, however, and as customary practice for poetry collections, a grounding explanation in the form of the preface should be excised so that readers are permitted the freedom to form their own interpretations and reactions to the writing and what it seeks to convey. This content is not without value, though, as you might choose to incorporate it into your eventual marketing and promotion of the book. Ultimately, such a guiding opening detracts from the natural progression of the poems and readers’ considerations of them. When the pastor asks, “But how long must I continue to repair you?” the question's directness is likely to strike readers as a plea; and in this plea, they are sure to perceive emotional depth. The contrast between bride and bike is recognized, but the interior comparison should also be recognized in what’s imperceptible—the pastor’s disappointment in his choice of bride and possibly his personal guilt for being responsible for this choice—and revealed in what isn’t said or how it’s voiced. As an example: How long will you continue to disgrace me, O thou old, rugged KYMCO? The first line is sure to evoke feelings about the pastor’s circumstances, the language compelling yet clear and concise, but the “O thou old” that follows may be perceived as establishing a wall; where in the first line there was intimacy and a spirit of connection, in the second there is formality and even ego. ~ Dr. Mark Weinstein, UK. ~

This book was released on 2022-01-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main reason for this book concerns what I believe is an assault on our Sovereignty in Australia. My recent book and research ‘While Australia Sleeps’ documented the problems of immigration and people who cannot and will not assimilate. In this research I further comment on this serious issue. Before examining the main subject of this research:A Definition of Governance, Governance has to do with the action, function and the manner of governing with honesty and true justice to the punishment of wickedness and vice and the maintenance of our Christian civilization, Christian heritage and way of life with peace in accordance with our Constitution of The Commonwealth of Australia. This book concerns what I, and indeed many Australians would, consider to be a disgraceful decision by those who govern us.My research and concerns begin with comments made to our Federal Member concerning funds allocated to ’illegals’ detained on Manus Island. These people accused the Australian people that they were held “illegally”. n this research I will mention a dozen times or more the loyalty, courage, honour and endurance of our forefathers who gave their youth and lives for our freedom and peace we now enjoy in this wonderful land Australia. Also in this research I express my sadness of being offended, hurt and discriminated against by a Muslim person at Colo in Windsor, NSW Council area. The report was of great concern especially when we think of a pledge of commitment that immigrants were to abide by, as defined years ago by Chris Bowen. The above report showed on the Nine Network, A Current Affair (Tracey Grimshaw) 22/8/18, Episode 168. It was offensive. A self-styled Muslim group began illegal tree clearing and building at Colo, NSW. Council officers went to inspect, and the person in charge of the illegal work said: “my religion comes before any governance“ and “you dogs, I step on your Cross, your Cross is under my feet.” (They then spat at the Council officers). I am offended – this action is of great concern. When I was very young in the early 1950’s; I remember my parents had a kerosene fridge and always had kerosene lamps on standby in the kitchen at home. The reason – power cuts which occurred regularly until coal-fired power became more efficient and reliable in the State of New South Wales.I am disgusted with our recent State government’s attitude. The promise made to me several years ago by the then Deputy Premier of New South Wales, Andrew Stoner, about poles and wires was a lie. Renewable energy cannot surpass base-load coal fired power?Unfaithful governance is seen in the attempt to push the climate change debate – also a lie. Below I have included some comments by a true Scientist – Professor Ian Plimer:“24. Very cold minimum temperatures measured in 2017 by government agencies are expunged from the record or changed to a warmer temperature to show a warming trend.25. The fraudulent “homogenisation” of raw date, the inaccessibility of stored raw data, the deletion of large volumes of raw data, the opacity of modeling methods, the omission of validation past climate data, the uncertainty of measurement, claims of a consensus and the demonising of dissent all show that climate “science” has nothing to do with science but, rather, is post-modernist political activist thuggery. This historical temperature records may be nigh on useless. 26. If a public company “homogenised” their annual reports to show that a financial loss was “homogenised" to a profit, directors and officers of the company would go to goal. “Homogenisation: of temperatures has resulted in massive electricity costs and billions of dollars of subsidies. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.27. Taxpayers fund climate research and institutions like the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO and universities.
