Book Synopsis Undying Love, Or, Love Dies by : Jalal Toufic
Download or read book Undying Love, Or, Love Dies written by Jalal Toufic and published by Post Apollo Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Memoir. Essay. The latest book from an original writer, thinker and filmmaker whose other books (also available from SPD) have attracted a considerable following. "This, Jalal Toufic's fifth book, can be read as a single aphorism, an aphorism composed of aphorisms. And although it is the shortest of his books to date, it is the greatest. Under love's rubric, themes from Toufic's earlier books reappear - memory, the untimely occurrence, the undead of history and their recurrence in film, the hyperrealities of oblivion, ruination. The book is set in contexts (and particularly that of the Arab World) in which not time but other faster forces are bringing about an end to things. There is, in my opinion, no more subtle or powerful thinker today than Jalal Toufic, and none whose ideas are, in the end, more beautiful" - Lyn Hejinian.

And when you finally move on with your life, what do you say when the unthinkable happens: your true love reappears at your wedding to another woman, looks deep into your soul with her loving, tear-filled eyes, and tells you the one thing you’ve desperately longed to hear for all of these years? As Noah, old and sick in a hospital bed, tells his story of love and loss to Josh, a wise orderly, he discovers a far greater truth about his past, present, and future. Book excerpt: How can you say goodbye to the love of your life? In Undying Michel Faber honours the memory of his wife, who died after a six-year battle with cancer. Bright, tragic and candid, these poems are an exceptional chronicle of what it means to find the love of your life. And what it is like to have to say goodbye. All I can do, in what remains of my brief time, is mention, to whoever cares to listen, that a woman once existed, who was kind and beautiful and brave, and I will not forget how the world was altered, beyond recognition, when we met.

Book Synopsis The Kindness Cure by : Tara Cousineau
Download or read book The Kindness Cure written by Tara Cousineau and published by New Harbinger Publications. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s time for a kindness revolution. In The Kindness Cure, psychologist Tara Cousineau draws on cutting-edge research in psychology and neuroscience to show how simple practices of kindness—for ourselves, for others, and for our world—can dissolve our feelings of fear and indifference, and open us up to a life of profound happiness. Compassion for ourselves and others is our birthright as humans—hardwired into our DNA and essential to our happiness. But in our fast-paced, technical savvy and hyper competitive world, it may come as no surprise that rates of narcissism have risen, while empathy levels have declined. We now find ourselves in a “cool to be cruel” culture where it’s easy to feel disillusioned and dejected in our hearts, homes, and communities. So, how can we reverse this malady of meanness and make kindness and compassion an imperative? The Kindness Cure draws on the latest social and scientific research to reveal how the seemingly “soft skills” of kindness, cooperation, and generosity are fundamental to our survival as a species. In fact, it’s our prosocial abilities that put us at the head of the line. Blended with moving case studies and clinical anecdotes, Cousineau offers practical ways to rekindle kindness from the inside out. We are wired to care. The very existence of our human species evolved because of an intricate physiology built for empathy, compassion, and cooperation. Yet we have an epidemic of loneliness, indifference, and cruelty, and we see these destructive trends on a daily basis in our families, schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces. This important book teaches effective skills in compassion, mindfulness, and social and emotional learning, and reveals successful social policy initiatives in empathy taking place that inform everything from family life to education to the workplace. Kindness has the exponential power to renew relationships and transform how we think, feel, and behave in the world. Will you be a part of the revolution?

Book excerpt: A Parallel Tale of Twin Souls Yearning to Be One The iconic modern couple, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, believed they were reincarnations of another iconic couple: Victorian poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. For the general public of 150 to 50 years ago, the Brownings came to represent particularly for the middle class, especially for women a modern model of a union based not on beauty or wealth but on equality and mutual respect. Their relationship was even cited as exceptional by literati and artists, who generally didn't place much faith in the institution of marriage. Their secret? Robert Browning celebrated his wife's genius and never felt threatened by her popularity. She, in turn, recognized him as the greater poet and never tired of proclaiming his talent. In sum, they respected and rejoiced in each other's achievements. Alas, there have been almost no such exemplary artistic marriages since - except for that of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. This is the strange, half-forgotten tale of "limitless un-dying love" that linked and enhanced the legends of both couples.

Book Synopsis Jacob I Have Loved by : Lance Lambert
Download or read book Jacob I Have Loved written by Lance Lambert and published by Lance Lambert Ministries, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-12-05 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Little in our lives today is more important and more needed than personal spiritual growth. I am convinced that Lance Lambert’s discernment (and humor) in this account of God’s dealings with Jacob are worth a thousand sermons. Of all his books and Bible teachings, I regard this as the apex, the spearhead, the most important of all else that Lance has shared in his worldwide teaching ministry. - Ken Burnett When God deals with us it is often in deeply mystifying ways. There is no greater example of how God shapes a person than through the remarkable story of Jacob. Jacob I Have Loved is far more than a mere biblical overview of the story of Jacob. It is an outstanding illustration of God’s desire to utterly transform our fallen inner nature. Despite a twisted, deceiving, and sinful heart, Jacob nonetheless inherited God’s richest blessings and became one of the patriarchs of our faith. Herein lies one of the Bible’s great mysteries. The amazing truth is that Jacob’s name has not been lost in the debris of human history, nor has it been forgotten, as have so many other names. Incredibly, it is forever linked with God. His story is an integral part of the history of divine redemption. This book is about the power of God to transform a human life. Jacob’s story is our story.
Download or read book Daughters of Eve written by Grace Makau and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-02-29 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding gender neutral deficit may be misconstrued, the context is ideal for this day and age. This book is timely, precise and speaks to the generations of women living in today’s world. Since the beginning Eve and her descendants thereof have been the blame for all ills befalling mankind. She’s either too much this or too much of that. The author seeks to explore the ills for generations to come identifying with caution to attempt to bring balance; healing to what’s broken. For generations daughters of mankind were not recognized as part of a system created by their counterparts therefore abided by structures put together by their others. Thanks to the deceitfulness of the male disposition that instituted this conflict of the sexes, perfectionisms, competitions, evaluation and/or appraisals, criticisms and judgments are all fundamental and have been a part of this jumble this book is about for generations. Cultures that were cultivated or instituted appealed to the man, his rights, his powers and his dominance in society but women weren’t allowed or afforded the same privileges and were forced to be subject to powers. I heard a preacher say one time that “conception is a pleasurably sweet process for men yet excruciating for women” – paraphrased - Thompson. Men in many cultures get glory in childbearing leaving out and clouding the drudgery involving these growing pains and labor of love women get exposed to. To this day women are still fighting for recognition, having been “in the dark” for centuries, female genital mutilations still take place in some remote cultures, childhood marriages honored in some religions, economic empowerment in western mores still a hot debate with men earning more than women and a Patriarchal system of government still in place inspired the title “Daughters of Eve” in reflection to the structure in place to recognize the labor intensive processes mothers go through in reproduction, giving the hand that rocks the cradle the honor they deserve.
