La tesis dominante defendida en los informes del Panel Intergubernamental del Cambio del Clima (IPCC por sus siglas en inglés) establece que el aumento de las temperaturas tiene un origen humano y es malo. Sus defensores arguyen que el debate terminó y urgen a tomar medidas. La justificación final es el consenso de los científicos y los resultados de los modelos, pero el consenso no está demostrado y los modelos han sobrevalorado durante más de cuarenta años la evolución de las temperaturas. En el presente texto el autor reflexiona sobre algunas de las posibles lagunas que hacen que la teoría dominante no cumpla las expectativas de explicar la evolución del clima actual por el efecto de las emisiones humanas, y analiza hechos, algunos mitos y varias paradojas. ¿Sabe el lector que el Antropoceno no es ningún periodo geológico? ¿Que no está demostrado el consenso científico sobre el origen del cambio del clima? ¿Que los eventos extremos no aumentan de modo generalizado? ¿Que no está demostrado el aumento generalizado de la frecuencia de los huracanes? ¿Que las muertes por fenómenos asociados a procesos atmosféricos disminuyen y que mueren más personas de frío que de calor? ¿Que los países insulares del Pacífico no se inundan de manera generalizada? ¿Ha pensado que a medida que aumenta la concentración de CO2 su efecto sobre la temperatura disminuye? ¿Que el mundo es cada vez más verde y el desierto no avanza? ¿Que en la atmósfera primero aumenta la temperatura antes que el CO2? Ortega nos enseñó que las ideas se tienen y en las creencias se está, por eso las primeras cambian y las segundas no. Ambos conceptos explican las actitudes que hoy estamos viendo con el llamado cambio del clima, un ejemplo de ciencia postnormal del que ya nadie recuerda el origen de los hechos por los que se decide, pero del que todo el mundo opina, en muchas ocasiones, con información de segunda mano.
