Contando con el apoyo financiero de la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AECID) y la colaboración de cada una de las universidades participantes, la investigación se planteó conocer el dominio de las competencias docentes del profesorado universitario en varias universidades públicas centroamericanas, dando la voz a los protagonistas de la Educación Superior: profesores y estudiantes que hablan en primera persona sobre su vivencia personal de las competencias docentes, con sus debilidades y fortalezas. Las distintas experiencias de las universidades centroamericanas han constituido una mirada internacional a las competencias docentes universitarias a través de una metodología cuantitativa, cualitativa y de triangulación de resultados. Los cuestionarios, las entrevistas, los grupos de discusión, las historias de vida, los encuentros en los diferentes países y demás elementos de la investigación han enriquecido extraordinariamente el estudio y han constituido la base para una propuesta de formación del profesorado en estos países, que amplía el trabajo conjunto y constituye un futuro de colaboración, formación e investigación.
