Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thirteenth volume of the International Yearbook of Futurism Studies explores some of the many facets of Neo-Futurism from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day. It looks both at the revival and the continuation of Futurist aesthetics, whether in explicit or palimpsest form, in a variety of media: literature, visual art, design, music, architecture, theatre and photography. The essays delve into the broad spectrum of artistic research and offer a good dozen case studies that document, with a transnational and interdisciplinary orientation, the manifold forms of Neo-Futurism in various parts of the world. They investigate how historical Futurism's intellectual and artistic perspective was appropriated and developed further in a more or less conscious, faithful and original way, all the while confronting its progenitor's cultural, social and political misconceptions. Interdisciplinary contributions to neo-futurism as a global phenomenon

Book Synopsis Contemporary Chicana and Chicano Art by : Gary D. Keller
Download or read book Contemporary Chicana and Chicano Art written by Gary D. Keller and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Contemporary Chicana and Chicano Art" brings into sharp focus the rich diversity of an art movement that is now achieving full recognition in the art community at large. These two volumes encapsulate the lives and careers of nearly two hundred artists -- from such established masters as Luise Jiménez and Yolanda López to emerging new talents Xóchitl Cristina Gil and Vincent Valdez -- and presents representative samples of their work, faithfully reproduced in color. The full range of visual arts is established here, iwth more than six hundred individual works -- paintings, sculptures, installation, serigraphs, lithographs, photographs, digital works; some works traditional, others boldly controversial. Separate commentary helps to evaluate the work of each artist and to place it in the context of the movement. Additional thematic sections are included, illustrating Chicana/Chicano artists' explorations of subjects from the barrio to the border, from lowriders to El Día de los Muertos. -- From publisher's description.
Download or read book Tristana written by Pablo Valdivia and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-22 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tristana is a novel where love, hate and power converge into a triangle of domination and frustration.Galdós', following the ideas of the Free Teaching Institution, intervened in the arena of the debate around the emancipation of women and their incorporation into the public sphere. Tristana, a young woman subjected to the rule of the tyrannical Don Lope, idealistically tries to find her purpose on life but she ends trapped by the rules of a world dominated by men who only see her as the object of their desire. Written in an experimental manner that defies the boundaries of theatre, epistolary and novel genres, Galdós' displays the purest nature of his characters by presenting their contradictions, weaknesses and virtues. He uses a deliberately ambiguous style that seeks to address fundamental questions regarding the unbalances of a Madrid in times of turbulence, but leaves the reader to draw their own meaning.

Book excerpt: The Enigma of Atlantida Andres Ruiz Tarazona English and Espanol With The Enigma of Atlantida, Spanish musicologist Andres Ruiz Tarazona, has written a book that envelops the reader in the captivating mystery of Atlantis. L'Atlantida, Jacint Verdaguer's poem, relates the mythological story of the submersion of Atlantis, which created the separation of Latin America from Spain by producing the Alantic Ocean. Subsequently, with the Spanish discovery of America, the two were again unified. Spanish composer Maneul De Falla was born in Cadiz in 1876. While living in Granada, he started work on a Cantata. Based on Verdaguer's text of the poem L'Atlantida, he set about creating a large scale orchestral piece, Atlantida. He considered it his most important work, continuing with it when he moved to Argentina. He had not finished the work when he died in 1946. Ernesto Halffter completed the orchestration after the composer's death.
