Book Synopsis Inspiring Greatness in Education by : Edward Zigler Ph.D.
Download or read book Inspiring Greatness in Education written by Edward Zigler Ph.D. and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-05-05 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major domestic policy issues of our time is whether our nation can provide a more effective educational experience for our children. Economists have stressed that the quality of our educational system eventually defines the ability of our workforce, which in turn affects our competitive position in the world market. This issue has earned increasing attention in light of recent reports that students in many nations perform at higher levels of educational competence than children in America's schools. Inspiring Greatness in Education describes the 21st Century Schools program (21C), a whole-school reform model developed by Edward Zigler over 20 years ago and since then has been in a constant state of testing, implementation, and scaling up. The goal of 21C is to promote optimal child development, which should become manifest in sound educational performance. In practice, 21C provides preschool education as well as good-quality child care before and during the school years, in combination with a number of other family supports. This book will provide an in-depth case study examination of the experience of the Independence School District in Independence, Missouri. The Independence School District embraced School of the 21st Century concepts in 1988, becoming the first urban school district in the nation to do so. This book reveals and documents Independence School District's success as a national model for 21C programming, as well as the experiences, testimonials and opinions of parents, students, teachers, administrators and community officials. By focusing on the impetus and history of the 21C concept, its organic evolution and its applications at the Independence School District, this book is designed to inform, educate, and inspire all who read it and to serve as a model for other school districts that want to achieve similar successes.

Book Synopsis The Development of Multiplicative Reasoning in the Learning of Mathematics by : Guershon Harel
Download or read book The Development of Multiplicative Reasoning in the Learning of Mathematics written by Guershon Harel and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1994-06-28 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the most important concepts children develop progressively throughout their mathematics education years are additivity and multiplicativity. Additivity is associated with situations that involve adding, joining, affixing, subtracting, separating and removing. Multiplicativity is associated with situations that involve duplicating, shrinking, stressing, sharing equally, multiplying, dividing, and exponentiating. This book presents multiplicativity in terms of a multiplicative conceptual field (MCF), not as individual concepts. It is presented in terms of interrelations and dependencies within, between, and among multiplicative concepts. The authors share the view that research on the mathematical, cognitive, and instructional aspects of multiplicative concepts must be situated in an MCF framework.

Book Synopsis Applied Cryptography and Network Security by : Markus Jakobsson
Download or read book Applied Cryptography and Network Security written by Markus Jakobsson and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-05-17 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second International Conference on Applied Cryptography and Network Security (ACNS 2004) was sponsored and organized by ICISA (the International Communications and Information Security Association). It was held in Yellow Mountain, China, June 8–11, 2004. The conference proceedings, representing papers from the academic track, are published in this volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) of Springer-Verlag. The area of research that ACNS covers has been gaining importance in recent years due to the development of the Internet, which, in turn, implies global exposure of computing resources. Many ?elds of research were covered by the program of this track, presented in this proceedings volume. We feel that the papers herein indeed re?ect the state of the art in security and cryptography research, worldwide. The program committee of the conference received a total of 297 submissions from all over the world, of which 36 submissions were selected for presentation during the academic track. In addition to this track, the conference also hosted a technical/industrial track of presentations that were carefully selected as well. All submissions were reviewed by experts in the relevant areas.

Book Synopsis Complex Problem Solving Beyond the Psychometric Approach by : Wolfgang Schoppek
Download or read book Complex Problem Solving Beyond the Psychometric Approach written by Wolfgang Schoppek and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2018-09-28 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex problem solving (CPS) and related topics such as dynamic decision-making (DDM) and complex dynamic control (CDC) represent multifaceted psychological phenomena. In abroad sense, CPS encompasses learning, decision-making, and acting in complex and dynamic situations. Moreover, solutions to problems that people face in such situations are often generated in teams or groups. This adds another layer of complexity to the situation itself because of the emerging issues that arise from the social dynamics of group interactions. This framing of CPS means that it is not a single construct that can be measured by using a particular type of CPS task (e.g. minimal complex system tests), which is a view taken by the psychometric community. The proposed approach taken here is that because CPS is multifaceted, multiple approaches need to be taken to fully capture and understand what it is and how the different cognitive processes associated with it complement each other. Thus, this Research Topic is aimed at showcasing the latest work in the fields of CPS, as well as DDM and CDC that takes a holist approach to investigating and theorizing about these abilities. The collection of articles encompasses conceptual approaches as well as experimental and correlational studies involving established or new tools to examine CPS, DDM and CDC. This work contributes to answering questions about what strategies and what general knowledge can be transferred from one type of complex and dynamic situation to another, what learning conditions result in transferable knowledge and skills, and how these features can be trained.
Book Synopsis Statistical Design and Analysis of Experiments by : Peter W. M. John
Download or read book Statistical Design and Analysis of Experiments written by Peter W. M. John and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 380 pages. It contains hard-to-find information on topics such as change-over designs with residual effects and early treatment of analysis of covariance. Other topics include linear models and quadratic forms, experiments with one or more factors, Latin square designs, and fractions of 2n factorial designs. There is also extensive coverage of the analysis of incomplete block designs and of the existence and construction of balanced and partially balanced designs. A new preface (to the classics edition) describes the changes made in experimental design since the book was first published in 1971. It discusses the use of personal computers to analyze data and details the emergence of industrial statistics.

Download or read book Blackbird written by Jennifer Lauck and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-04-24 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the startling emotional immediacy of a fractured family photo album, Jennifer Lauck's incandescent memoir is the story of an ordinary girl growing up at the turn of the 1970s and the truly extraordinary circumstances of a childhood lost. Wrenching and unforgettable, Blackbird will carry your heart away. The house on Mary Street was home to Jennifer; her older brother B.J.; their hardworking father, who smelled like aftershave and read her Snow White; and their mother, who called her little daughter Sunshine and embraced Jackie Kennedy's sense of style. Through a child's eyes, the skies of Carson City were forever blue, and life was perfect -- a world of Barbies, Bewitched, and the Beatles. Even her mother's pain from her mysterious illness could be patted away with hairspray, powder, and a kiss on the cheek....But soon, everything Jennifer has come to love and rely on begins to crumble, sending her on a roller coaster of loss and loneliness. In a world unhinged by tragedy, where beautiful mothers die and families are warped by more than they can bear, a young girl must transcend a landscape of pain and mistreatment to discover her richest resource: her own unshakable will to survive.
