Book excerpt: Today, we live in a time of images, photos, and videos that we continuously show others. Why? Because we love the person pictured. Thus, if my heavenly Father left a photo of His Son Jesus and His passion whom we love, I want to know about it and show it to others. The Shroud is one of the most scientifically investigated artifacts in the world. Numerous scientists, authors, researchers, and experts have published abundant literature. Notable figures, such as Rogers, Habermas, Jackson, Rucker, Whanger, Antonacci, Schwortz, and many more, have contributed to the ongoing dialogue. This book merges the phenomenal works of these experts with the scriptures, historical and physical evidence to create a comprehensive narrative. For example, What supernatural timing of three events confirms the exact date of Jesus' death? What prophet predicted that exact date? What ancient prophecy is only confirmed in the Shroud? How does the Shroud confirm Jesus' body left the tomb in three days? I hope to provide a deeper understanding of the Shroud by presenting a unified story incorporating all available evidence, adding power to your faith and its relevance in today's world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: August 2000 marked an unusual event in history: the new millennium's first public exhibition of the Holy Shroud of Turin. Only the fifth exhibition since 1898 and commemorating the Jubilee anniversary of the birth of Jesus, the event in Italy attracted millions of people world-wide. In this book Mark Antonacci scientifically challenges earlier radiocarbon testing and presents new evidence in determining the Shroud's true age. In addition, he provides the first scientific explanation and demonstration of the cause of the image of the man on the Shroud. Despite centuries of efforts from people of different backgrounds throughout the world, this extraordinary image has never been adequately explained -- until now. Based on extensive research of both the author's twenty years of analysis and the findings of scientists commissioned by the author, this work provides scientific and concrete evidence that The Shroud of Turin was indeed used to wrap the body of the historical Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: The Turin Shroud is it ... a fraud, a mystery, the witness of a miracle? Bit by bit, the investigation into the Turin Shroud becomes an explosive historical controversy. Medical examiners say that the man under the shroud must have still been alive! Was it Jesus, who survived his crucifixion? This would turn the resurrection into a matter of science, not only faith. This book presents scientific evidence so you can decide for yourself whether Christians will have to confront the idea that some of their central beliefs have no historical basis. Christianity beyond sacrificial death and supernatural resurrection is not its end but the dawn of a new beginning. This is the message of this book. A radical book for spiritual pioneers.

This book reconstructs the circumstances surrounding both the Crucifixion and the carbon-dating to arrive at the conclusion that Jesus must still have been alive when he was laid in the tomb. It also claims that the results of the scientific tests were somehow manipulated in order to maintain the tradition, central to the doctrine of the Church, that Jesus died on the Cross.

Book excerpt: The book addresses the many challenges posed by the Shroud. If, for example, it really was the work of a 14th century forger, how did such a person, with the limited scientific knowledge of his time, produce an artifact that can still not be replicated or even explained by 21st century sceince? If the Shroud is evidence of an event that could be called supernatural - the resurrection of a dead man - what does this imply for scientists studying it ? If the Shroud is evidence of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, what are the implications of this for those who do not believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God or that he was anything but a rural Jewish teacher? What are the challenges facing researchers and theologians today both in preserving the Shroud and in carrying out further scientific research? The book is in three main parts - a complete review of the history of the Shroud - both known and speculated; a study of crucifixion as a method of execution and its relationship to the image and markings on the Shroud; and a review of the scientific studies carried out on the Shroud over the past century, together with the various hypotheses that have been advanced as to how the image was formed. The book concludes with some suggestions as to how conflicting demands for preservation of the Shroud and for further scientific studies can be reconciled and carried forward. Is the Shroud the genuine burial cloth of Jesus Christ? This question is left to the reader to answer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the first books written in the U.S. since 1988 that presents the Shroud of Turin as the authentic burial cloth of Jesus of Nazareth. The author, a medical doctor, takes us on a scientific and scriptural search (with more than 70 revealing photographs) that allows us to decide for ourselves whether the ancient cloth has any meaning for us today. A companion video that traces the story of the shroud from Turin to Jerusalem is also available. In 1961, while poking around in a used bookstore in Boston, Lavoie stumbled across a paperback called A Doctor at Calvary, by French surgeon Pierre Barbet. As Lavoie thumbed through the pages, he discovered that Barbet was writing not about Jesus' crucifixion but about the Shroud of Turin, a piece of cloth that contained the bloody image of a naked man. Thus began Lavoie's 30-year quest to uncover the true origins of the Shroud and to reveal its mysteries. In this well-told scientific and theological detective story, Lavoie offers a step-by-step account of his attempts to prove that the Shroud of Turin could well have been the shroud that covered Jesus as he was taken from his cross to his tomb. In order to show that the marks on the cloth are indeed blood stains, Lavoie discusses the nature of blood as it clots, especially when those clots are covered with cloth. Through various experiments, he is able to conclude: "blood clots transfer to cloth as mirror images of themselves; the neatness of the transfers is related to the fact that the man of the shroud died in the vertical position; the time the clots take to transfer to cloth coincide closely with the gospel timetable of the death and burial of Jesus." Lavoie is on his firmest footing when he sticks to his scientific theories, but when he begins to argue in the final chapters that John's gospel and letters indicate that John possessed the shroud and was hiding it from his audience, he treads shakier speculative ground.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This essay divulges what the research has established about the famous Shroud of Turin, and it is not intended to persuade to believe that the Cloth of Turin really wrapped the body of Christ a couple of thousands year ago.The author returns several times to certain subjects, according to different perspectives: the reader does not consider such reiterations as not necessary and involuntary: the work includes a general introductory part – at some point, considering it useful, already with in-depth studies, as for the medical conclusions of the anatomopathologist Pierluigi Baima Bollone – and a section, divided into chapters, specifically dealing with particular topics already covered in the first part, for example the photographs of the Shroud, and a chronology. This essay has been updated several times by the author. The essay is not intended to persuade to believe that the Sheet of Turin has really wrapped the body of Christ a couple of thousand years ago or, as commonly said, that it is authentic- On the other hand, authenticity can also mean something else, you can say the Shroud preserved in Turin is the Cloth that wrapped body of Christ, but it could be different than simply assume that an item is two thousand years old; and if I do not take a position on the fact that this famous Sheet wrapped Jesus, I suppose that the reasons for thinking that the Shroud is very ancient are prevailing, as there are currently lots of evidence to support it and only two against, of which only one seems objectively to be considered: the radiodating tests on Shroud samples which determined the age of the Sheet at lower medieval period; but they are increasingly disputed by Christian experts, scientifically and not only. The other reason against the Shroud is a prejudice, that comes both from anticlerical laityand from the majority of the Christians Reformed, preclusion that leads the first to ignore the theme, and sometime to mock it; and leads the Protestant believers to condemn the veneration of the Shroud, which they consider to be a mere ”symbol” created by human hands: they follow the Old Testament condemnation of ”make for yourself images”, historically born for anti-idolatrous reasons, although Catholics argue that the prohibition existed only before God was incarnated in Jesus, showing himself to the world as ”image”, that is as carnal human figure, without any possibility to be confused with graven images; there are, moreover, Catholics who deny authenticity, in the sense that the Shroud isn't precisely the one that wrapped Jesus , and you can find Protestants which assume it is authentic, at least in the second sense of the term or even in the first. In any case, it should be stressed that the Christian faith is not based on the Shroud of Turin but, historically, on the oral witness of the Apostles on Christ’s resurrection, gathered within the first century in the books of the New Testament and come down to us because it was preserved by the Church over the centuries, with systematic control of matching between the new copies and the previous ones, starting with the oldest. With this spirit comes the second edition of the essay of Guido Pagliarino on the Shroud, , carried out considering new data and correcting a couple of inaccuracies in the book released years agoThe author returns several times to certain subjects, according to different perspectives: the reader does not consider such reiterations as not necessary and involuntary: the work includes a general introductory part – at some point, considering it useful, already with in-depth studies, as for the medical conclusions of the anatomopathologist Pierluigi Baima Bollone – and a section, divided into chapters, specifically dealing with particular topics already covered in the first part, for example the photographs of the Shroud, and a chronology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does the so-called Secret Gospel of Mark and modern day Shroud of Turin have in common? Breaking new ground in both sindonology (the study of the Shroud) and New Testament studies, this book explores the mystery behind the lost gospel and the mysterious story of a figure wrapped in linen that it describes. When this controversial text is reinserted back into the biblical storyline, it ties together a number of complex themes that ultimately serve to reveal the burial/resurrection shroud of Jesus. Secret Mark may thus be the missing link in a long line of evidence pointing toward the Shroud of Turin's first century origin and the fallacy of the cloth and its image being a medieval forgery. Paradoxically, critical scholarship's own methods bring to light one of the central relics of Christian faith that may well be the only material artifact of the historical Jesus. Only by reading non-canonical, apocryphal scripture can the Shroud be more readily perceived in the symbolic codes of the New Testament gospel. This "director's cut" of the Gospel of Mark is sure to fascinate and enthrall anyone interested in the historical Jesus and the origins of Christianity both believers and non-believers alike.
