These sovereigns were: RAMA VARMA (1758-1798), BALA RAMA VARMA (1798-1810), GOURI LAKSHMI BAYI (1811-1815), GOURI PARVATHI BAYI (1815-1829), RAMA VARMA (Swathi Tirunal 1829-1847), MARTANDA VARMA (Uttram Tirunal 1847-1860), RAMA VARMA (Ayilliam Tirunal 1860-1880), RAMA VARMA (Visakham Tirunal) and SIR RAMA VARMA (Mulam Tirunal). Please note that the text and images used in this book are from various scanned versions of the original book. Excerpt: ...woman is transferred to a separate shed, called Anchampura, in the compound itself but apart from the main building; and all the persons implicated in the crime are placed under an interdict. A preliminary enquiry called Dasivicharam is held by the woman's male relations together with the Brahmins of the neighbourhood who interrogate the Dasi or maid-servant attached to the suspected woman. This concluded, the matter is laid before the King whose sanction has to be obtained before beginning a Smarta Vicharam. A fee of sixty-four fanams or Rs. 9 has to be sent in along with the application for sanction, which fee is credited to the treasury of Sri Padmanabhaswamy, as whose deputy or vassal, the Travancore Maharajah is supposed to rule. A committee of enquiry or Panchayat is then appointed consisting of a Smarta or judge, two Mimamsakars (persons versed in law), one Akakkoyimma (regulator of order at the trial) and one Purakkoyimma (who is the representative of the sovereign). In all parts of Malabar except Travancore, one of the recognised six Vaidikans lias to accompany the Smarta to the place of enquiry which is generally the neighbouring village temple, and the Smarta merely conducts the enquiry as the deputy of the Vaidikan, but in Travancore where there is no Vaidikan, the Smarta's authority is supreme. The Mimamsakars are Nambudiris well versed in the law and are selected by the Smarta himself to help him in the enquiries. The Akakkoyimma or village chieftain holds his appointment by heredity, while the Purakkoyimma was formerly the Maharajah himself, but now his deputy, generally a Taluq or village officer. This book, Malabar, will give very detailed information on how a small group of native-Englishmen built up a great nation, by joining up extremely minute bits of barbarian and semi-barbarian geopolitical areas in the South Asian Subcontinent.

A group of British sailors/veterans are in an Indian jail. I do not know if they have been freed, as yet. This news came to my attentions a couple of months back, even though they have been in jail for a few years now. This was a news, which I had been expecting for quite some time. In fact, when the BPO revolution commenced, I had the gut feeling that these kinds of happening are in the offing. ‘India’ cannot be understood from pristine-English, and ‘Indians’ also cannot be understood from pristine-English. It would like one animal trying to understand another animal, whose basic mental triggers are not clear or understandable to the first animal. So much is the difference. What comes into English as ‘India’, ‘Indians’, ‘Indian entrepreneurship’ etc. are mere translated-into-English versions, in which most of the Satanism remains hidden in translation. The very fact that Indian languages have a very evil feudal structure by which human beings can be literally flipped from a height to a stinking depth by means of a single word cannot be understood in English at all. No academic studies have been able to mention this. Even when it is mentioned, those who know it simply make funs of the contentions and lead the theme astray into disarray. The total fault is with Clement Atlee and his insane coterie who destroyed the aspirations of millions of peoples in the Indian subcontinent, when he handed them into the enslavement and indoctrination of traditional overlords, from whom they have had around 150 years of escape. What has happened to the British sailors have to be explained. It requires some background information.

Two comparatively large states, Mysore and Travancore – usually considered as ‘progressive’ and ‘enlightened’ – and some of the princely states of Orissa – often described as ‘backward’ and ‘despotic’ – have been selected for analysis. The authors map developments in public health and psychiatry, the emergence of specialised medical institutions, the influence of western medicine on indigenous medical communities and their patients and the interaction between them. Exploring contentious issues currently debated in the existing scholarship on medicine in British India and other colonies, this book covers the ‘indigenisation’ of health services; the inter-relationship of colonial and indigenous paradigms of medical practice; the impact of specific political and administrative events and changes on health policies.
