Book excerpt: The essays in this volume constitute a portion of the research program being carried out by the International Society for Phenomenology and the Human Sciences. Established as an affiliate society of the World Institute for Ad vanced Phenomenological Research and Learning in 1976, in Arezzo, Italy, by the president of the Institute, Dr Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka, this particular society is devoted to an exploration of the relevance of phenomenological methods and insights for an understanding of the origins and goals of the specialised human sciences. The essays printed in the first part of the book were originally presented at the Second Congress of this society held at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, 12-14 July 1979. The second part of the volume consists of selected essays from the third convention (the Eleventh International Congress of Phenomenology of the World Phenomen ology Institute) held in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1981. With the third part of this book we pass into the "Human Rights" issue as treated by the World Phenomenology Institute at the Interamerican Philosophy Congress held in Tallahassee, Florida, also in 1981. The volume opens with a mono graph by Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka on the foundations of ethics in the moral practice within the life-world and the social world shown as clearly distinct. The main ideas of this work had been presented by Tymieniecka as lead lectures to the three conferences giving them a tight research-project con sistency.

No longer is our picture of this special brand of early modern devotional practice limited to a handful of venerable saints. La angustia, la culpa, el rencor y el deseo de venganza al morir son definitivos para que un ser se quede con esos sentimientos negativos, impidiéndole continuar con su evolución espiritual. Aprovechando el conocimiento de estos temas y ciertas facultades especiales con la que algunos de sus integrantes fuimos dotados, nació nuestra pequeña organización familiar reconocida en el astral como "Grupo de Rescate" que, con la ayuda de Seres de Luz y mediante la participación de una médium, logra comunicarse con seres confundidos que al morir no alcanzan la Luz, guiándolos hacia el plano espiritual. El presente libro expone interesantes y variadas comunicaciones del Grupo de Rescate, a través del médium, con estos seres confundidos y su guía hacia la Luz; así como la apertura y desarrollo del don de canalización de uno de los integrantes del grupo como canal de comunicación con seres que ya fallecieron. La transcripción a detalle de estas comunicaciones acercará al lector a vislumbrar lo que sucede en el más allá.

Amsterdam's People of the Book shows that this unique, Bible-centered culture resulted from the confluence of the Jewish community's Catholic and converso past with the Protestant world in which they came to live. Studying Amsterdam's Jews offers an early window into the prioritization of the Bible over rabbinic literature -- a trend that continues through modernity in western Europe. It allows us to see how Amsterdam's rabbis experimented with new historical methods for understanding the Bible, and how they grappled with doubts about the authority and truth of the Bible that were growing in the world around them.
